increase in range doesn't fix the major problems with server lag and client updating.
Its a weak patch to the problem. Instead of fixing the real problem we are presented with a cheap fix which is unacceptable.
Another major sympton on this problem is when you perform KD on someone. How many times do you finally catch up with a range person and get in a KD only to immediatley get an out of range message.
Huh? Yea. I just KD'ed a rifel use I've been chasing for 2 minutes and get a out of range message on the very next swing attempt.
Of course we have all seen this. The player will then magically slide 10 meters in one direction. We frantically look around for the player and then finish him off. This is bad and should be fixed.
These doesn't effect range users. I have seen pistols and rifles hit these sliding KD people without a problem but with melee this is critical. If this is a lunge or basic KD move the person often has enough time to get back up because we have to first locate them and then run to them.
So the 75 HAM we just used up was wasted and once again we have to play lunge-tug with another ranged user.
Range increases do not work. I can still be on top of a person and get the same message.
Classic example here. Range increase is useless. The client-server code is not up to par.
What ever method being used for updates is not fast enough, the client still thinks I way behind when on my screen it clearly shows I am not.
Look at the screen shot. I am on cable modem. My ping is normal for my cable connection. Packet Loss is zero. FPS is playable at 29. My range is 1. I am right on top of him.
Yet as you look at my chat windows, the only attack I am able to land is a Lunge. My regular attacks even though I am at ONE METER FROM THE TARGET I am consistenlty out of range with or without VK's.

AMEN...I dont understand how Putting on VKs SHORTENS you range anyway...if anything it should extend it by 2 to 3 inches.
Ammazing how my arm gets physically shorting when I use VKs.

Every single knockdown I do on starsider the body floats across or teleports out of my range. Rather annoying since our most crucial attack can be easily prevented.

To paraphrase Koster's previous comments on this issue, "You are all liars. This problem doesn't exist. Our network code is not the worst in computer history. Clients have NEVER been out of sync by more than 6m. There has NEVER been a 4-10 second lag."
The network code will never be fixed. It would require a major code rewrite, a major server upgrade, a major network upgrade, and a full turnover of the development team so we could get one that gives a **edit**.

I can't possibly agree any more than anyone else on here. The 1m "Target out of range" crisis is a real issue and it's a joke in the "fix" that was presented. The netcode is laughable on this situation. Ranged have no problems at all, EVER. Yet we have to worry about where our targets are.

keep it up pple this is our biggest problem
fix the codedevs i know its **edit** hard to do
just an idea,, just like u cant meditate when running, make it so that you cant run when kded down... so soon as you get kd ur hittin arrow keys wont work, only f1 would get u up. This wouldnt solve all the problem, and if u had 500 ping, ur enemy would still be a bit ahead of where he is.. but at least they wouldnt slide 15ms on the floor while you swear
