Thread: trying to find some background on TKA, its history and relation to swg
MonkeyofDoom wrote:A couple of things:1. Darth Maul's "TK Skills."At one point in TPM he sits in a position resembling the TK Meditation pose. Make of that what you will. Also, compared to the Jedi he fights, he seems to use more kicks/sweeps and generally "moves" in a different manner. How much of that is down to him using a dual-sabre or some other fighting style is open to interpretation.2. Teras Kasi vs Teras Kasi Order. It's as I pointed out before, if somebody practices Kung Fu, they're not automatically a Shaolin monk. Ditto for TK. Teras Kasi is the FIGHTING FORM. The Teras Kasi Order is an ORGANISATION. The two are different.3. The "Mystical" Powers CommentThat's the Meditation line. And before anybody says it's "Force-related" or similar in SWG, I'll point out that in real life I've seen footage of Shaolin monks doing some pretty freaky things in our world, so I don't think we need to go into the realms of "Jedi-like powers."4. excellent post
Point taken in regards to TK having to bebalanced and playable within SWG as a combat profession, but Lucas's inspiration for the Force is based in non-western philosophies and mystical practices: People who relate mystical skills to the Force clearly have a basis for arguement.
I see the "Force" in SWG as being used in slightly different ways by Jedi and TKA. Jedi use "external" Force to influence the world around them directly, whereas TKAs use "inner" Force to change their body's performance. In other words, a Jedi could "force push" somebody whereas a TKA uses his "inner force" to pump up his abilities.
Not that I'm saying that TKA actively use force powers, if you catch my drift. Instead, it's a sort of "personal force" use, simply effecting the individual. Wether it's "THE FORCE" or just "intense training and physique mastery" is the key here.
