That's garbage, MagicalHat. I hate to say it but you're too credulous. Some poster said he heard it and now you believe it. Well guess what. It's not true. Try reading some official material, like the recent Blackman interview.

Note he says, "I would say in terms of new features there wasn’t really anything promised and we can’t talk too much detail right now about the scope of the combat revamp because we’re just wrapping our heads around how we’re going to kind of increase it and what the scope will be."

This was stated about a week ago. So anything, anything you heard about what is "definitely" occuring in the revamp is a lie. Also, they've already capped defense stacking so the issue was addressed, there wouldn't be a reason to eliminate it now.

You would still not be a doc, which means you'd lose out on buffs, disease/poison healing, all the really good stuff. You need a doctor friend in order to be successful in many cases. Hardly what I'd call "ultimate".

You can't kill anything by tanking it. All that being a tank means is taking damage. If you can't kill what you're fighting, you will eventually die.

No they're not. Not the way you think. Here is what is being nerfed as far as poison and disease go... A CM is getting his range reduced to 64m like everyone else already is, they can't throw as fast as they used to, a doctor can do an area heal for poison and disease, and it's now possible to resist poison and disease with doctor buffs. Note that none of that will help your template, because even with a rifle you'd be in range of a CM if you're trying to kill him, all he has to do is poison you once if you can't heal yourself so it doesn't matter how fast he throws them, and you can't heal or buff yourself without being a doc.

Note that I do agree that riflemen are overpowered, at least compared to pistoleer and carbineer, and I think that TKM/Rifleman is a very strong template. I just dispute that it's the "ultimate" template because it has flaws, like every template out there.

I take that back, you might consider some Jedi templates to be "ultimate"...

I used to die for people all the time back when I was a Ranger. Just used the ol' /rescue command, (otherwise known as /headshotself3.) Insta-death.

^^ That is true. Problem is even if you know how to use your profession - you might not be able to.
A TKM against a Rifleman. A TKM will know he has to get up close - but so does the Rifleman. You try and get up close - he'll just kite you around.

Workaround - *drumroll* Tactics !! That's right. Use burstrun + food and Terrain Nego + food and run after that Rifleman and get him down. Scout is rare in PvP templates so this edge should help. Its your game from here.

But I can't blame the system - if you're TKM and your enemy is Rifleman + TKM and headshots you - then smacks you to the ground and kicks the **** out of you because your mindbar is half dead already - thats kudos to him for using strategy. A pure TKM will lose against someone who knows his stuff. Fix that - if you detest Ranged so much - try this for size:

TKM/Master Fencer/Master Brawler

TKM/Master Sword/Master Brawler

Ratification

Okay I'm gonna sum it all up, no matter what profession you are the person who knows how to use that profession to the best of there abilities should win default.


This would be the poiont of a duel no?

allu do when fighting a riflemen is when u press duel them u /follow when ur close enough dizzy them then lunge that could knock them down then u pound them down when u get close.


if that is what everyone is aruging about then forget what i said

Try the flip side. I was a MCH/Mcarb decided to switch to TK simpley beacuse the mele prof are way overpowered compaired to ranged beacuse you people kept crying and whining that ranged professions could defeate you using thier advantages and so the myopic devs kept nerfing the ranged professions and leavig the mele professions alone........................I do more damage as a NOVICE one fragging box TK than I did a MASTER carb(and my friend who is a 0/3/0/0 BH)..................that is fuuked up!!!!!!!!! quit your fuuking whining! you as TK ARE the most BALLANCED profession in the game! I knever knew how powerful you were untill I droped carb and picked up TK. Even though sharnaf are not that tough in the grand sceme I can solo one unbuffed, no make that 2 at one time with some brandy(in ubesee) as a fragging one box Novice TK, I could noteven hope toas a master carb neither can my BH friend. If you think it is that bad DROP TK and play as a ranged profession!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fall of the TK my white harry A$$!

so tosummarise every post in this thread for anyone else that got a migrane after halfway down the 2nd page.


1. everyone wants to be just as strong as everyone else no matter what their chosen proffesions weaknesses are.. (watch out for that tailors croche needle of death!).


2. everyone wants to be able to pwn everyone else.


3. everyone only wants the combat revamp to effect everyone else, and not themselves.


4. everyone that has played swg is a star wars expert.

In the Combat Upgrade (prays that if he gets flamed, devs will not read this post) wouldn't it be more realistic that a player has a set amount of points to put into a'Ranged' combat, 'Melee' combat or 'Crafting' profession? I know the idea's very rough and has a million holes, but fundamentally, it would require a combat charater to be more all-round i.e. realistically a person would need both melee and ranged to survive in a battle.


I don't know, just sprang into my dopey little Bothan head.



<Another idea leaps into my dopey little Bothan head> Perhaps a character could have less skill points but could pick up a 'beginner' profession which is a mixture of Combat and Crafting, and the combat could be a mix between ranged and melee.
