Are you going to share your own impressions with respect to Ryutek's questions at the beginning of the thread?

I've done some in an email to my Alpha testers but I will edit it & post it here some time tonight.

In general though I will say this: I like it.

Cool, thanks for the reply.

I am interested to hear some constructive feedback from the positive side. Much of the positives I've read are "we will not be able to solo krayts, as originally intended", or "we will get back to group fighting, as originally intended", etc... but I am interested in hearing specific non-negative feedback on the interface, and the new TKA skills (which we not had a chance to see in action yet). Honestly I am a bit wary at (apparently) losing many of the specials I like using, but in fairness I have not yet seen their replacement.

Obviously I enjoy this game, and would like to find some positive things to focus on here. Currently, the system I see on TC does not sit well with me, for reasons I mentioned in my previous posting. If I see positive points of view, it might give me a step in the direction of enjoying the new combat system.

As a separate issue, we keep hearing about the TKA as being the premier tank class in SWG. Yet, I do not understand the concept of a "tank" that has no armour and does a low amount of damage, unless the RPG definition of a tank is different than the generic definition I'm familiar with (i.e. the heavily-armoured military vehicle).

Thanks,
Perkins.

A tank is something that does low damage but can survive a long period of time againest something attacking it (in the terms of MMOs etc anyway). The reason we don't wear armour is as our tanking ability is aprently in our avoidence skill & so if we're not geting hit in the first place we don't need the armour to absorb the damage. It's something we need to wait till higher level testing to look at though.

From reading the BH boards, ive seen quite a lot of posts referring to BH as the "ultimate tank" i thought this would be tkms role?

While i had good Impressions on one hand and doubts on the other,my personal fear has nothing to do with the power or effectivness of tka.

There was a bug were you could use all special moves if you type them, example: /dizzyattack , you did not need the skill.

Ok the problem:the only special moves with animations were:Lunge, headhit, leghit, bodyhit and spin attack.

So please tell me that all (or at least as much as befor if you take other brawler professions as addition)special moves will get an animation so we dont lose our style and iam happy

would be great if we get new animations for new attacks like armor break, cirtical strike and so on.

I know this is just a small issue for most, but i think it is very importan for many teras kasi players.

My first impressions hmmm let's see....

I kill the orclooking Gammorianwith my +10 uber leet ScoutBlaster of Krayt Killing while my smuggler budy uses spice to cast Force Wedgie to hold his friends at bay.

As far as 2h pre-req goes, as long as I can use the specials without a 2hand weapon, great. It means I can't dable in Marksman like I wanted to and be a TKM/MCH, but ok whatever.

I haven't used armor since I became a TKM except for DWB/Vette/NS groups so I could care. Especially if we no longer NEED armor to tank that stuff. Even if they give us robes I won't wear it

I don't like having to use CoB every waking moment in a fight, I think it's cheesy and really shouldn't be nescesary. Any defense bonus it gives should be automatic and part of the proffession, not some special move that I have to keep hitting some button for when it runs out, thereby taking away a few seconds that may mean the difference between staying alive and cloneing, especially if I don't hit the button fast enough to trigger it when I need it. I never use the dumb thing now and I have no problem. Seems that it will be as nescesrry now as using the personal buffspells were for Paladins in EQ. Without them you were toast.

Overall it looks and feels like EQ: StarWars Edition to me, and not StarWars:Galaxies. At least that's the impression I got when I went and tried a few things on TC5. It is being developed by the same team that made EQ2, right? That would account for the cheesey effects and the dumbing down of the HAM system.

Speaking of EQ and EQ2 I certainly hope the CU doesn't change the game to require that you be grouped to do any adventuring or missions. That was why I left EQ and never wanted EQ2 or WoW. I like the fact I don't need to group if I don't want to. I like the fact I don't have to spam for a group for hours on end, just to get stuck with a group that can't work together, or has a person that agroes everything in range cause he/she is "Ub3r L337" and kills the party everytime. I left those other MMORPG's because of crap like that. Most of us did or we would still be playing those games

Every other MMORPG(and pen&Paper RPG) I have played or seen in my 20+years of roleplaying has fallen back on the tried and true Hitpoints Increase with player lvl. Not so for SWG(until now). EVERYONE started with the same stats, only modified by their starting proffession. That meant that a new character was as good as a multi Elite with no armor or buffs. the difference was in the skills that the Elite had mastered. That was cool. We now have a system that is not surprisingly the same as athe old HP and Mana Pool system.

The fact you could see an ID ( pretty much useless now for anything except haircuts, and when was the last time you got a hairstyle change in the game?) and have those stats moved gave yet another facet and depth to your character and the game.

Yes it makes the game easier especially with the Doctor buffs getting nerfed to the stone age,( Yes I do think they are a bit too powerfull and I hate having to get them just to do simple missions or go the the village) but changing the HAm to a Health gets damaged only system is way EQ/EQ2/WoW/(insert everyother generic MMORPG/RPG here) They had something unique and fresh and couldn't handle it is what that says to me.

The New Icons are ugly and take away from the UI. I wonder if they just cut and pasted them from the EQ2 UI? Nice try, doesn't work. There was nothing wrong with the old Icons, at least nothing I could see or heard anyone complain about. The time and money they wasted (If they didn't Cut and Paste) on them could have been better spent somewhere that needed it (like fixing the known issues/bugs that they haven't even started to address yet but have been getting slammed on for months)

The same goes for the new sound and pixel effects. I don't need a bright white flash around my target to show me what I hit, I have a target box that does that. The explosion(white flashes) didn't impress me much and makes me wonder what the lag will be like in a big fight with several critters all getting hit at the same time. It's also not StarWars, I almost expect to see a POW or BAMM in yellow or red next. It makes it look cartoony and really detracts from the overall feel of the combat.

Over all, the comabat was ok, nothing spectacular, and definitely nothing new: Hit a button, wait till you can hit it again. (cast a spell, wait till you can cast it again) Granted the combat system on Live sucks as well,(Spam UA3 till it's dead) so this is just as good. It will suck that to be a Melee/Ranged will make you next to useless when confronted with a Ranged/Ranged or Mellee/Melee, but players will allways find a way to abuse any system they are given and this one is no exception. Stacking will continue and the PowerPlayers will still PowerPlay while the ones that don't will whine and complain it's not fair. Nothing new here. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I do like the new weapoons (especially for Commando and Rifleman) and the fact that Smuggler and BH are finally gettting some much needed tweaks, But Smuggler as a Mezzer? The Devs must be on Spice. Smugglers should be more like a Rogue in Eq DPS/Stealth (Since that's where this looks like it's going anyway) Maybe let Rangers be Mezzers since they can lay traps to stop and root NPC/Creatures.

My final verdict is that the CU is bland, unoriginal and only slightly better than what we have on Live right now (but in some ways, not by much) My feeling is that the CU will make or break this game for those that are veterans, and it will be just another MMORPG for those that come after, no different than any of the others. A shame and a tragic lossof a game so highly regarded for unique and original gameplay.

Ok I said I was going to put this up the other night & I didn't get around to it so here it is now, it's a bit breifer then I would have liked but due to the amount of time since TC went up I'm finding it harder to comment on it.

So I loaded in to Espa my first thought was.. What the smeg?! When I saw the new icons, I then decided to get stright down to it & went & got a Nuna mission off the term (before they were changed). This was my first mistake. I got my arse well & truly kicked.

While I was a bit shocked, I figured, ok I'll try something else, & started to wild hunt around Entha.

Anyway that was alot better but with the low xp rates I wasn't impressed.

Fast-forward a day or so. I had stuck with it, I've not been on live since TC came up. & the more time I spent on it though the more it grew on me. The inital shock of change has worn off & I'm really enjoying it.

I've done all my leveling solo so far & am Master Brawler, Marksman 0043. The last couple of nights I havn't done a great deal due to other things having most my attention but I'm enjoying it alot.

I think one of the biggest things with the CU is the inital shock to your system of how differnt it feels. But once you get in to it it really doesn't seem as differnt as it once did & you start to notice that it deffinatly is still the game you know & love, just with differnt things visable. The more patches that are geting put in the more I'm liking it, so personly I'm now very optimistic about when this hits live, thats not to say I don't have some issues with it, I do & I have posted on them, but so far so good.

I love it. Gameplay is great. Icons just take getting use to. Please play beta with an open mind and approach it like it's a brand new game.

mmmm its not a brand new game its been out 2 1/2 years.

Last I checked the majority of players asked for fixes not a complete combat system ripp out and rip off.

Some questions that would be good to provide feedback on include (but are NOT limited to):

* What do you think of the Interface?
Why were the mouse and control layout completely changed? It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to move. Not cool at all.
The new icons are kind of entertaining, I see no improvement with it though.

THe attack HAM bars are a little less clear when trying to battle, but that is minor really.

* How does it feel?
I'm not impressed, I don't see any improvement. It's six of 1, half doze of another. I really dont' know why we suddently have all these extra white whizzy things flying all over the place, it's pointless.

* How does Unarmed seem to be to you (damage, speed, anything and everything)
It's absolutely horrible. Every time I try to do a basic mission against a 15 level NPC I'm killed. I'm incapped by spineflaps, killed by famba and can barely take on domestic tusk cats, I feel like I just started the game even though I am a TKM! Quite frankly I simply hate it.

* Is there anything that you want to mention or any concerns that you have?
Yes! What happened to my abilities? Why can't I fight anything and live? What happened to my nifty spin kicks and multiple fist attacks? Not only do I have no power but I look boring and physically inarticulate. I study martial arts in real life and a jumping round house kick is something you can't miss!

* Are you enjoying it?
No, I'm completely heartbroken, no I am not. Not one bit. I really cannot completely articulate how upset I am. This doesn't feel like an upgrade even remotely. I'm really serious when I say I want to cry.

My first impression?

Well, I finally got on TC-Bria last night and several things concern me greatly.

1. Combat is slow.. tediously slow. As a TKM (level 80) I was hitting Feddub cops (approx level 20-23) on Talus adn jsut using my default of Advanced Melee strike, it seemed to take forever to kill them. There's no snap or life in the fighting. It's dull and boring.

2. The lack of armor. Example: the only footwear I have are composite boots, hgence I walk around barefoot like Caine in Kung-Fu. Ok, that's kinda cool, but the lack of armor is bothersome. Yep, I was dodging for all I was worth (at least I assume so, the combat log is severly lacking in detail, another issue, but I'm sure that will be fixed) and I saw the word "Miss" all over the place which I assume means they missed me. maybe I jsut need to get used to that.

3. Lack of challenge in fighting. Ok, I'm sure that 20 stormies can take me down but there was always some challenge to slaughtering the Imp Outpost on Talus or taking on an AT-ST; maybe not a lot, but the possibility of having to flee was real. Now if I want to take something high than me, jsut for the sake of the challenge of it, forget it. Likewise for critters lower than me, unless there are 20 of them I'll win (very slowly). the idea of winning or losing combat based on subtracting con levels is dull, unexciting, and insipid. Leveling the playing field is ok, but let's not make it guranteed who will win simply by "My level > Its level".

4. Ok, the icons. Not really a concern for me, I rather like them. They're not as generic as the original ones. Good job to the artists who make them, they're not a concern. I jsut mentioned them because everyone else does.

So my overall impression is that of driving a truck from 1958 (yes, I have driven one, a Ford). Slow, cumbersome, but not difficult to do. Good for going in one direction but don't expect a lot of snappy action. Can pull a stump out to level the field, very utilitarian, but won't get you the chick in the white T-Bird.
