Thread: What other kinds of weapons would you accept for a TKA?

My thoughts are not for increased number of weapons (we are supposed to be UNARMED specialists), but rather increased number of skill tapes out there that will significantly enhance defence and offence. I'm not talking about +1-3 but rather +10-30 skill tapes. Also make it so artisan types can manufacture these tapes so we don't have to rely upon chance to acquire them. Weaponsmiths could manufacture the unarmed attack enhancement tapes, armorers the unarmed defence, master artisans the unarmed speed, etc..

good idea mabden!

"Teras Kasi are lethal, nearly impossible to knock down or unbalance. Facing an opponent armed with ranged weapons, high-level abilities enable him or her to evade blaster fire and close in quickly, bringing his or her enemy swiftly to the ground."

None. Why should the elite "unarmed" class be required to use a weapon? I say up the damage a bit, give us an armor piercing of 1 (somewhere in the power line?) and let us actually fight unarmed.

Bria-Varien: TKA, Pistoleer, Smuggler, and wanderer.

It's nice to be wanted, even if it is 'Dead or Alive'

Thunder, of course we all use knucklers. Without knucklers, we have absolutely no damage output. Why not fix it so that we don't need knucklers? Put the cert in smuggler or anywhere else, give us an armor piercing of 1 somewhere on the power line, fix our damage and speed, and allow us to actually fight unarmed.

I agree with everyone who wants no weapon. But atleast up our base unarmed speed, its a speed of what, 3?Or give us a speed increase in our unarmed tree in brawler, and remove that speed cap. Not so strong, but increadibly fast is what i want.

No other weapons. The fact that we need knucklers in many cases is an insult to the profession. Id rather have a leaping jump kick i could do on the move (to stop those marksman types from running) than any weapon.

However, if i HAD to choose a weapon to use it would indeed be some kind of throwing star...... to stop people from running, or at least give me a chance.

For everyone saying we dont need any weapons keep in mind VKs are the only way we can acheive AP 1. Without them our damage decreases steadily as you make Master and fight creatures that no longer have AR 0.

Thought I'd de-lurk for this one...

Someone posting in another thread about mastering two melee professions (TKA and Fencer) got me thinking in terms of high-level rewards for this kind of specialization. It seems that there are advantages to hybrid classes and to jack-of-all dabblers, but nothing if you really want to concentrate on one "tree". I thought maybe a high-level certification for dual masteries might work. For instance:

TKA + Fencer - Katana

TKA + 2H - Pudao (sp?), horse-cutter

2H + Pike - Halberd

etc... including ranged lines as well

My idea would be that these weapons wouldn't have to be great, maybe only slightly better than the highest current certification, but would allow specials/bonus' from both professions at the same time, a suitable high-level reward.

Since these would be some of the rarest weapons in the game, there would be almost no market for them, requiring one to be custom made; perhaps with the possibility of rare components to gathered for the weaponsmith (epic/quest items)

Just an idea, and one that clearly would need to come after fixing other problems.

I agree with most of the other unarmed in the sense that the ideas of weapon use seem to conflict with the unarmed concept. Knucklers I might accept, and maybe even some wrist mount claws or katars, but anything that starts moving into the armed realm (like clubs, staves, etc...) seems to defeat the purpose.

A progression of lower level weapons, brass knuckles, iron knuckles would be nice for unarmed brawlers. A range of more advanced claw weapons would be interesting also. Claws would increase the reach, damage but maybe ham costs. knucklers would have shorter reach, good damage, low ham costs. I think going completely unarmed should be an option also. It doesn't make much sense that you can swing your arms faster with a knuckler than without one.

One could vary: damage type, damage, ham costs, range in the weapons, speed of weapons. Maybe adddots and bleed effects to different weapons (like a poison kit for your claws, etc...). The more variation, the more options available for atka to fine tune their playing styles for various situations.

How ignorant can some people be? Gung Fu, Karate. They both focus on unarmed combat, but even they have weapons training so they can too be masters of the weapon of their choice.

Unarmed is unarmed. Have the dev's increase our unarmed damage and our unarmed hit rate and de-cert the VK's. ANYONE should be able to use a VK...and while they're at it, toss the XP into the 1-handed weapon tree.

Maybe have our armor piercing rating go up as we gain our skills.

In short, I want to go unarmed, yet be effective. Sure I don't have any armor, but at least let that be the deciding factor in whether I die or not
