Thread: My goodbye to TKM
Bread - I don't dispute any of your interpretations about Teras Kasi issues. As I stated, I'm only trying to say what needs to be - wheter it is or not is up for debate, and will continue to be so indefinitely ![]()
As for delving into pve, I don't think that saying I fight Krayt Dragons or not is a particularly valid measurement by which to say I'm "serious" about pve. I'm nearly a Master Ranger, for starters, which makes me darn near exclusively pve (something I'm hoping to change...). I go to Endor frequently, I go to Dathomir frequently, and although you are correct - I've never fought a Krayt Dragon - that hardly means I'm not an experienced pve player. Oneunusually powerful creature can kill with one hit - I don't find that particularly surprising. Yes, when I get into it with creatures, they almost always aggro on me - probably because I'm doing the most damage .... as TKA do. 400-500 every second or two is significant, especially when it's in your face! And since you've only used this one creature as an example, I'll continue to believe that TKA are pretty solid pve combatants, regardless of their difficulty fighting Krayt Dragons. "TKA can't fight Krayt Dragons" sounds like a better way to label your analogy - but then, it sounds rediculous and loses all credibility, too ![]()
TKA need to be good at melee. Some people insist that they are - others, that theyare not. The developers can't just stroll in here and get a consensus - they have to develop with more than player whims, because every player has something different to say. They need to look at huge trends, not simple individual threads. TKA may indeed need a boosting, but all we all can agree on is that yes, if you run after a pistoleer, you probably will indeed get kited. ~J

Stop saying idiotic bs like "ummm rocket launcher do more dmg in real life" well no **edit**, but this is a game and the devs have a responsibilite to balance all combat classes.
/AGREE!!!!!!!!!
finally somebody realizes that the "reality" in SWG is...................guess what kids???!!!
FULLY CONTROLLABLE BY HUMAN BEINGS (pretty neat huh? who knew?)
now in case you don't get it, this means that the rocket launcher that would blow up a building in this world doesn't blow up one in the 'virtual' worlds in SWG. the fact of the matter is, in this world, if i was an unarmed combatant and you had a gun (and i knew it) and we had to fight to the death...i'd sneak up behind you and cut your throat or something tactical (if not dishonorable..but its just an example). the main point is the devs program the reality you guys seem so insistant to compare to our reality. this is absurd. if the programmed world of SWG was given to us by aliens and we couldn't change it..well then maybe i'd agree with this idiocy but since it's programmed by human beings, we can make it however we want.
bottom line: the devs put the bralwer class in this game. they owe it to the class (not us) to make it balanced. they owe it to all the combat classes that they put in this game. this is a very difficult task and i give them the benefits of the doubt (especially since they seem to be fixing some TK aspects and i hear they're going to fix some more). generically, this balance is acheived by having pros and cons for each special/attack & classand have them work conversely and inversely with other classes. this way, each persons chances are more on their strategy than on who strikes first (jeopardy anybody?) or being completely worthless. if they can't or won't do this..they must remove the class...or (gasp) limit PvP for bralwers to brawlers only (this would suck obviously).
now..sorry to flame or sound like a troll but i'm sick of the idiot argument of "don't bring a knife to a gunfight" as if your staggeringone-dimensionalinsight completely shuts down the entire notion of balancing professions in this game.
on the other hand, anybody mad or thinking about quiting maybe keep playing for a couple days and see how it works out. i do not adapt or change to a game. we adapt to stuff we have to "deal" with. like somebody else's stupidity crashing into us on the highway. but in a game that is programmed by people, this is an invalid point..unless of course the devs all turned to stone the day after the game was released and nothing can be changed ever again. we all know this to be false. but i say keep playing because, in my case, after each nerf..i got hella pissed and ranted and raved (not on the groups really...only one time that i remember)..and guess what...a few days later and i'm having a blast beating the peanuts out of stuff all over the place. and i do solo red cons (not krayts) and get super huge xp for solo'ing tuskens (i'm not a master tk either).
i saw someone post something similar..about giving it some time and see if you really aren't having fun anymore. most of the nerfs suck really bad (kd1 should have a 30sec timer and kd2 should have a 20sec time IMO give you something to work towards!!!). but i still end up killing powerful stuff and doing huge damage (1400+) and getting higher everyday. i don't use pets or droids (except for group xp bonus). and i don't use buffs. i do use stimB's of course. my whole point is that...if you're really not having fun..quit i guess...but maybe have a pinch of patience and keep playing for a couple days...maybe you'll start having fun without even realizing it.

Omega) I agree, we are GENERALLY viable, and even powerful in PvE combat. But, when it comes to fighting krayte dragons, we're out of the picture. When it comes to high-level static quests, we're out of the picture. When it comes to high-level hunts, we're out of the picture. When it comes to PvE battlefields, we're out of the picture. Beginning to see the trend here?
We are viable 90% of the time, it's the other 10% that tends to bother myself and others. One of the coolest PvE situations in my opinion, is that of a wide-scale 20+ player hunting group. Unfortunately, we are usually left out of these, or spend the majority of them incapacitated.
Lastly, pets still have a HUGE advantage over TKA's(Something in the area of 3x tanking longevity). And while we do have slightly more damage, pets have fast regeneration, speed, armor, resistances, nonexistant HAM costs, poison effects, range, and the ability to warp through objects. And for that rifleman pumping out 3000+ damage per second, all he cares about is tanking, because ther'es no way we're going to compare damage-wise.
If I sound immature and lacking in intelligence to you, perhaps it is because I can't really make a reasonable argument to pure fallacy. Your reasons for being unable to compete in PvP are based on false information. I hope you enjoy your pursuits with Rifleman. I don't see you ever enjoying a melee class that is not pure fantasy. Of course, as a rifleman I expect to see a complete reversal in logic when a Teras Kasi closes distance with you and kills you swiftly. Then it will be so unreasonable that someone can run 90 feet at you before you could kill them with a rifle.
Malibu) Again, you make pretty ignorant and unsupported claims. I'll point a few out for you:
"Your reasons for being unable to compete in PvP are based on false information."
"Of course, as a rifleman I expect to see a complete reversal in logic when a Teras Kasi closes distance with you and kills you swiftly"
On another note, the fact of the matter is that a rifleman that chooses not to kite can kill a TKM in 1-2 shots without too much trouble. Suprisingly similar to the amount of hits it would take the TKM to kill a rifleman. Damage is king as the game is currently set up, and we have no significant abilities to lend to our damage-dealing prowess.
Well, I've posted it before on this thread I believe, but rifleman are capable of one-shot kills on both the mind pool, and on random stats. There are dozens of posts regarding rifleman damage, and I didn't feel compelled to reiterate them. On that note, they'd also be slain in one hit by a TKA, balanced out by the fact that they'd be able to do likewise.
Malibu I hate to say it but the majority of the tka population agrees with High_on_bread and doesn't seem to like you much (in case you hadn't noticed your message ratings). Just thought you might want to take note of that.
Fact is, I'm with High_on_bread on just about everything...including dropping SWG. SoE has until the next billing cycle to impress me, and if they don't my account is going bye bye. Not that anyone will really care, but I just feel the impulse the post about it anyway. I'm running into game crash issues duing combat, a general lack of things to do, and a general dislike for the static nature of the grind. Imight try coming back in a few months, depends on what other games are out (wow, horizons, eq 2, etc), but as things stand SWG has lost it's ability to keep me interested, and that is of course the death knell for a game.
Ahh well, I guess I'll just have to see what happens.

Blah, should read...except that I'm dropping SWG, not just tkm. Nothing like screwing up an "I'm probably going to quit" post ![]()

Ah shucks. I was really hoping to validate my life through acceptance on a message board. As far as the majority agreeing with Bread, it may well be that the majority that post on these boards are bitter. That is the nature of message boards. It is almost always easier to destroy to create. You will see far more negativity on message boards than positive feedback. You will see very few 'what am I doing wrong' and 'how can I improve my tactics' amid the sea of 'this is the developers fault' and 'people are cheating' posts.
You will see that in any online game's message boards. It isn't just SWG.
If you aren't enjoying the game, you should stop playing. It is pretty simple. I don't see myself staying much longer either, but it isn't because I am unable to play my class. The game is lacking in communication (which you may find odd that I attribute to a lack of static camps). The game lacks in content, or at least enough is broken or doesn't inspire me to find it that I just don't hunt it down. The game's PvP rules (mostly the advantages of being covert and still participating in PvP) are not to my liking.
I don't expect to change the minds of any die-hard whiners, but if you care to look, you may see that there are many people who are enjoying their TKA character and are looking for ways to play them better, not how to change them to suit their existing play style.
Now please excuse me while I cry about the majority that doesn't seem to like me much.
i hear ya man, bounty hunters are cheap bastards, but what can you do. maybe this will help.
