Umm, them kneeling just makes em easier to hit, not make you do more damage
I'm not sure if that is right... when KD you take more damage, when prone, you are "extremely vulnerable to melee attacks" possibly meaning more damage... who knows.

"It's more than that. Melee vs Ranged gets a bonus to damage."
Supposedly that was changed at one point to be an accuracy bonus instead of a damage bonus.
But someone prone takes more damage from melee. That's a fact that any TKA can prove in 5 seconds. If that's not the case then I'm baffled as to why I get dramatically more damage *every single time* I attack something prone as opposed to standing.
I assume the same goes for someone kneeling, though I rarely attack someone kneeling, usually they're standing or on their back.

it is true for those who are kneeling as well.
dizzy/posture down is a VERY effective combination as well. lots of players have protection from KD, few think about protection from posture down.
they are on one knee, taking high damage. they have a choise...continue to take the damage, or risk standing up...

I wish I could remember where I read that(holocron maybe?). When I was going up the commando tree( already Mtka), I noticed that when I switched from my vk to the flame, I took considerably more damage from melee attacks. Obviously, once you switch weapons, you lose the tka melee damage mitigation as well as unarmed toughness. I would go from getting hit for 90 pt's damage to over 500!
Somewhere in either the forums or holocron, I read that if you use a ranged weapon vs a melee attacker, they get a damage bonus. Similar to the bonus you get with the kneeling or prone postures.
The Weapon switch delay effectively negated the ability to use the vk, switch the FT, land the flame DOT, then switch back to the vk to get the defense bonuses back, while you are still recovering from the flame dot delay.
Man, I missmy TKA/Commando

Looks like I was mistaken, it was a to-hit bonus, not damage:
"Added to-hit bonus for melee vs. ranged weapon attacks. This is a replacement for the damage multipliers and a sub-feature for the damage mitigation addition. If you use a ranged weapon against a melee combatant, you are easier to hit."

It used to be that there was a damage bonus based on the weapon. I know that rifles would give a 2.5x damage bonus (ouch!), while carbines and pistols got less. (I believe carbines were 2x and pistols 1.5x but don't quote me.) I have heard that was changed (from riflemen no less), but I searched on the boards for any official statement along those lines and couldn't find any.
Actually I don't think there was a damage bonus for all ranged, I only remeber Vs. Rifles and Heavy Weapons

"Actually I don't think there was a damage bonus for all ranged,"
I know for a fact there was. It just wasn't a uniform bonus.
Here's a post from back in July of last year:
"Melee attacks get bonus damage multipliers on ranged opponents. Highest for rifle, med. for carbine, lowest for hitting a pistol user (1.2 or something I think I read). Ever see a TKA at the tuskan camp? That's why they hit so hard. The use their berserk special, close to melee range, and hit a rifle user..for 2000 damage."
