"This is all built in to the game. None of this counts as "content". "

I'm confused, you mean content as you define it is "not built into the game"? How can I "enjoy" it if its not built into the game? Yeah, your opinion is pretty flawed. Stop confusing "plot" or "story" with content. PvE, PvP, et al are all content. It might not be some flashy super engrossing dynamic quest system but its still content. The only thing I think I can give you a thumbs up to is that this game lacks signficant, fun, worthwhile content.

"Shoot, but it has 400 weapons and 50 built-in levels with the ability to easily make more..."

This game has 9 richly detailed planets to explore, a slew of weapons, with the promise of plenty of expandability. Just because you have an obviously flawed thinking when it comes to rpgs (shown in your other posts) doesnt mean everyone else who doesnt agree with you is unintelligent. Besides, you're the one who thought Final Fantasy and other such single player games had a great deal of social interaction in them. Yeah, you're a bright one.

I said that the Pen&Paper RPG "Dungeons and Dragons" was designed with "social interaction" in mind. But that confused you (you did admit you were confused, just now, right?) so you applied my claim of social interaction to every RPG there is. Sadly, the only ones you knew about were computer or console RPG's.

He probably doesnt know about dungeons and dragons because he's not a acne faced greasy headed nerd with 2 inch thick glasses. Or at least I think he's not.

Maybe he is and maybe he's not. But if he doesn't know Dungeons and Dragons, then he has no business telling anyone else that they don't know RPG's. He thinks RPG's started with the Legend of Zelda.

"Content is modular"

No.

" It IS dynamic."

No, it doesnt have to be.

"The example I gave was "The Cries of Alderaan"."

Good for you. The examples I gave in that other post are all commonly accept as "content" in MMOs.

"Once again, go read a review of this game and then come back and tell me what they said about content before you waste our time with another post. "

I don't need to read a review of a game that some moron wrote having playedSWG for a mere five minutes to know that this games lacks "non-baseline" (compared to other games) content. This game does have content, it just doesnt have anything worthwhile for my tastes atm, i.e. meaningful end game pve. You have rather rigid views, and could definately open your mind a bit more.

"But that confused you ..."

No, what confused me was when you started talking about DnD and other pen and paper games when I was talking about computer and console based games. My comments all along were all directed at computer games not having any level of social interaction at all, i.e. the single player rpgs of the 80s/90s. But no, you just haaaaaaaaaad to talk about DnD at which point I felt your level of reading comprehension was that of the village tard.

Your original point which brought me to post, was that "solo play came beforeparty play". I pointed out to you that this was neither true overall (consider D&D) nor was it even true of computer RPG's (consider Wizardry, Ultima, and Bard's Tale). These all emphasize party play. But, of course, the gensis of your knowledge is concurrent with Mario Bros.

"...nor was it even true of computer RPG's (consider Wizardry, Ultima, and Bard's Tale)."

These games are solo play genious. But I guess you're too smart (i.e. stupid) to realize that you weren't playing with someone else across the "internet" when you played Ultima, Wizardry or Bards tale. The point is, when you play DnD you socially interract with other "real" people, but those other computer games were single player solo experiences. The fact that you had multiple charcters is not congruent to "social interaction". It's funny how someone as rigid as you can be so lax on this particular topic.

And my comment "solo play came beforeparty play" was stated under the assumptions that 1) I was talking about computer/console games and not pen/paper and that 2) you could actually tell the difference between playing a single player game and a multiplayer game.

Let me explain this slowly, so you have some hope of catching up. The number of players is irrelevant. What we are talking about is the number of CHARACTERS. Just because, through improvements in technology (i.e. computers), one player can control the whole party of characters by himself, itdoes not mean thatcomputer RPG's have becomeSOLO games. They oftenSTILL continue the PARTY concept.

Well my perspective on content is thus:

I've played Meridean 59, UO, Everquest, DAoC, Shadowbane and now SWG. The best game I have played for PvE content has been Everquest. But I ended up hating EQ. I am a PvP advocate, I just cannot go back to playing PvE only games. Thereason I have picked up SWGwas 90% for itsPvP content and maybe 10% for its SW theme.

This game is almost a hybrid. It doesn't have the complex, and buggy, PvP engine of Shadowbane, but it also has vastly higher PvE content (if you're an Everquest fan, don't go and play Shadowbane, lol). Sony always stated that the focus of SWG was the GCW and they built a PvP engine to facilitate this. This is a game thats always going to require the players to provide the majority of the content.

The PvP content still needs allot of improving (not even going into the class balancing) as well. PvPer doesn't really have a Starwars feel, and this may well be due to the lack of vehicles and equipment. It will be very cool if they get to the point of having large scale battles like the battle on the ice planet from The Empire Strikes Back. I come from playing Shadowbane so I know the technical difficulties surrounding mass PvP battles (and thats without having to worry about vehicles), but I can always hope .

That being said, occasionally I do like to do a few game defined quests, and this is probably where allot of people are feeling a little gipped. The quests are just too simple and really don't have the SW feel. I've done Jabba's Palace and the Emporer's Retreat and though the atmosphere around those locals was very Starwarsy (Jabba's court and meeting the Emporer and Vader was pretty cool)the missions themselvesare little more than a collection of S&D, Escort and Delivery missions.

The 1st monthly story arc is pretty flimsy as well. Kill tonnes of NPCs and get several coded discs, yippee. I would actually liked to of seen a group focused quest, something along the lines of a smuggler friend gets wind of a conspiracy (either through underworld contacts or via slicing an important terminal), followed by the hiring of a Bounty Hunter to locate the source and a couple of group difficult fights to recover the information. Now that I think would of been cool.

But I'm not too fussed, as I previously said my focus is on PvP. I'd say the PvE content that allot of people are wanting will improve, but you'll never see the end-game content of games like Everquest, the style of game just doesn't support it.A few things could be improved though. I've soloed bothDark Jedi Knights and a Dark Jedi Master (Dathimir Prison quests) and this definitely should not be possible. NPCs of this level should be a dangerous fight for a skilled large group (though I did see him whack a rifle wielding Stormtrooper for 9999 when he got to close to the prison, lol), the mere fact that the Jedi's don't have any powers is pretty pathetic. Imagine how dangerous the incounter would be just giving the Jedi the Force Pull power. Lol, summon anyone?

Though I'm not "happy" with the PvE content, it is acceptable (with the expectation things will improve), and I'm having allot of fun in the PvP arena.

Sorry, I haven't read the entire thread so Im not sure of everything that hasalready beenmentioned, but here is what I define content as:

Content is "stuff to do", but moreover a motivation to do that stuff. Kill mobs/craft/entertain etc.to advance in skill. Kill faction mobs and PvP to gain faction points and acquire perks. Complete quests in order to acquire powerful equipment. Group and adventure into high level areas for exp/loot/enjoyment.

So Selwynn, when somebody argues that there is no content in the game I think they are really saying that there is no motivation for the things already in place. Many skills are broken and are not worth acquiring. most faction perks are broken and somewhat worthless (save the AT-ST) and pvp is often the slowest way of gettin fp. Pretty much every major quest is broken and not worth completing as there are no tangible rewards at the moment.Grouping is often avoided because the classes that are successful and popular do well soloing, and most high-level areas cannot be enjoyed by many classes and do not provide good exp/loot.

Basically there is "stuff to do" and a helluva lot of it, but really no motivation. I have been a TKA master and a master Sharpshooter for over 3 weeks now, and honestly I'm running out of things to do. I find myself gettin bored when pvp'ing because its all just a TEF war after the first 30 second blood bath. Battlegrounds are empty. Faction perks are somewhat useless and not worth the grind. High-end grouping is hard to find and present no real benefit for me to go (they aren't even that fun, mostly just a bunch of dying and running back). Right now all I have to do is just **edit** around. Im sure you will play devil's advocate and suggest I should find a way to entertain myself with all the "stuff to do", and honestly I am trying. I just hope the expansionsand patches some how bring abouta universal change to the entire game system so that I am actually motivated to emmerse myself in the game's expansive content.

So there is your lengthy definition and hopefully an explanation that makes sense.
