Well I have a noob question to ask. If I wear armor with 80% resists is there any point to eat synthistake? Do they combine so you cant be hurt at all, or do they not stack and it would just go with the 80% armor and be completely poitless? Anyway I usually drink 2 brandys and a sythistake if im not buffed, and then whatever other food i happen to have on me at the time (as long as it helps the situation).

"If I wear armor with 80% resists is there any point to eat synthistake?"
Yes because it kicks in after armor. I've seen this myself when using high kinetic resist ubese.
Let's say your armor resists 80% of energy attacks and you have 50% synthsteak. Someone shoots you with a T-21 doing 1,000 points of damage (hypothetically).
First the armor blocks 80% so only 200 points of damage get through. Then your synthsteak blocks half of that, and you're only hit for 100 points.
This is ignoring things like AP (that T-21 has AP 3 so is doing a lot through your AR 1 armor).
Also, no armor, and I mean no armor in the game has 80% resist to everything. There's always something like stun that you don't resist much, and I don't think any armor in the game resists lightsaber damage at all. (But synthsteak reduces that lightsaber damage!)

it's not about being rich, it's about being lucky
My PvP helmet is 37% stun 84 base (including Kinetic), 302 mind encumbrance....
just a lucky slice...

I pop a Synthsteak early before combat, to let my stomach empty, full doc buffs, a mind and musician buff if possible, and the rest just depends on the situation.
If I have a musician buff, I have no real need for ahrisa as my stats are migrated so that 2 brandies and the music buff gives me 1500+ mind secondaries with my armour on, so i usually leave my stomach empty for emergency canape, or maybe throw in a thakatilo for the KD defence.
No music buffs I'll keep popping the ahrisa to keep focus up.
I have muon and canape on my toolbar ready for emergencies, so I can just pop one as and when needed, with smugglers delight ready to go if I can find any.
The real key is the brandy timing, most people will pop 2 brandies straight away, which gives you nice mind, but also means that they both wear off at the same time, I prefer to pop one brandy, wait till the drink bar drops to a quarter full, and then drop the other, then just keep drinking brandy as soon as possible after that, it stops you from feeling the effects of losing 2 brandies in one go.
If possible, I prefer to keep my stomach as empty as possible, for emergency foods such as canape, burnout sauce, snow cake etc, and for throwing down the odd bovoli and maybe havla for those last minute battlefield buffs.
Just don't settle on one overall combination of foods permanently, let the situation dictate what food you use.

One more noob question: does Synthsteak work before or after the armor damage absorbtion? I thought it worked before - which would mean that your armor is not degrading as fast...?
I see the message in the combat window: 80 points of damage was mitigated by defensive buffs..." but don't remember if that is before or after the "your armor has taken 100 points of damage" message.
Also - if defense acuity kicks in - does that happen first? So you could block/dodge/couterattack --> then food buff mitigation --> then armor damage absorbtion.
Is someone could explain the order that would help a lot.
thanks for the help.

it lasts for a fixed number of attacks - but I have noticed that it times out after a fixed amount of time - if you are not being attacked. The number of attacks, the amount of damage mitigation, and I suspect the overall timer on the effect all depend on quality.
