Why not just move Lunge 2 from master brawler to each of the master boxes for tka, swordsman, fencer, and pike. Get rid of KD2 and just give TKAs and every other melee porfession lunge 2 at master. This would help in my mind. Just and idea.

Once again i point out that if your sick of getting kited don't be a melee profession, if your sick of getting kd/dizzy get soem good food. if ur smart ull do the right thing and pick up a gun to use in pvp and leave the melee fro mobs. To be honest in pvp the majority of my deathblows were because i flanked the opponent and when they were busy fighting the other ranged units kd/dizzy uh3 from the side. use tactics when ur melee. Don't be stupid if you want fair duels duel each other.

Well IMHO the simplest fix would be to take away shooting and burst running at the same time....don't flame me here fella's....this is just a gee whiz kinda thought here.

I am TKA Master and2/2/3/1 of pistol, I use both depending on the Mob's resistences, so I have thoughts on both sides of the coin. Let's think about this is RL. Holding a pistol, carbine, or rifle run at sprinting speed and try to shoot at anythingbehind you, is not very likely. While a brawler type might not be able to punch any better in RL at a sprint speed, you could kind of think of it as a "trip or tackle" move (hence the "lunging attack":smileywink to knock the ranged person to the ground.

So in this scenario, the ranged has a perfect defence for the brawler sprint running towards him, sprint run as well. The brawler will in most cases not catch him and the kiter cannot, well kite.... IF HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO SHOOT DURING A BURSTRUN. Advantage=neither.

In the second scenario, ranged guy shoots at 64m, he will get a bleed (if not still nerfed) and perhaps a KD (no dizzy) and a few shots off, at master ranged weapon damage, it is bye bye brawler, as it should be. Advantage=Ranged

Lastly lets look in an enclosed area such as a tavern, around corners in town and say near harvesters or trees. If I can weave in and out of trees and around corners a shooter can't get a clean shot off, then I can catch him and get him in melee range. Advantage=Brawler

I mean lets be honest here guys. Ifyou are beingshotby a master pistoleer from 64m and you aren't dead by the time you get to me, who needs to be nerfed? And the reverse is true....if I can continue to kite you during a burstrun and you cant catch me...well same thing. Remember we have to keep ALL professions having fun here right ?

So before I step off my soap box let me finish with this. Simply put, no shooting a GUN while burstrunning. It may solve a lot of problems of kiting and balance things out for the brawlers to get a foot in there to tripranged peopleup. And would I give up my defences against Mobs to get a ranged attack? Heck no cause as far as I am concerened we took brawler skills to get in the thick of things and get up close and personal. We should loose to distance thats all there is too it.

Basically, they are a set of new specials that require a target, provides a short burst of speed, a damage multiplier, lowers defenses briefly, has a minimum and maximum range, and noticeable HAM costs.

Drawback being that it would need to be used so often that the melee fighters would end up draining their HAM bars just trying to stay in range, remember all that a ranged fighter as to do is move outside of 15m and we're completely screwed. You'd need to spam the specials over and over just to try and keep up with them and that really isn't very helpful. Also because you commit yourself to the special there's nothing to stop the ranged fighter from then stopping you in your tracks with a move like KD of supression fire. That means you'd end up with a massive ham cost, plus the damage caused from the special and whatever follows. Also dropping the players defences even lowerjust to close the gap to provide a fair fight isn't a verygood way to help the melee professions. We need a means to provide a fair fight without already suffering more penalties than we do at range.

It is pointless trying to compare KD/dizzy and kiting to reality. This is a game in a fantasy setting, the force, light sabres and the like are not actually real, likewise both running around with a gun over your shoulder and punching/kicking with a 15m range is absurd.

Balancing in pvp will never happen, if you dont like this then dont duel the classes that have these skills. If you want to master another profession and practice pvp stick tomultiple target pvp where tactics can easily overcome these things; in my opinion far more fun than the playground posturing of duels.

btw, you don'tneed to have a gun to kill people in pvp. i'm pure melee and i kill quite a few people. (secret)i am always part of team when pvp'ing actually, i eventually intend to compliment the tkm with a ranged attack, but it's not a necessity to do well in pvp. unfortuanately, the only true content to the game anymore is changing profs and learning what they do.

Are you serious? If posture change wasn't on a timer (thank you Dev's) the suppression fire noobs would return and we'd be back to 3 or 4 months ago when it wasn't. What does posture change do? It lowers oppenents posture and adds a 5 second delay... Imagine that, you guys can't fight back while kneeling. This would put melees and anyone that didn't have ranged support 4 at a serious disadvantage.

Tal-N wrote:

The first thing I'd say is that why does posture down need to be on a 30 second timer anyway? The players can still fight back for starters unlike with KD, so spamming it over and over simply leads to someone being held in place. I can understand KD being spammed and making encounters are too easily but posture down didn't have that effect, once someone is down to low as to be prone they can't be lowered any further plus they're speed is greatly reduced and you cause x2 damage now as well. So in terms of dealing with someone once you're within 15m of range is to take the timer off of posture down otherwise the only way for someone to hold a mob within striking range is with KD/Dizzy.

If you guys are worried about being kited, take a ranged proffession.. Hell take one of the best ranged proffessions and they will stop running when whey see you shooting.

Best ranged proffesions: rifleman and combat medic. Yes, combat medic is a ranged proffessions; mind poison and mind disease will incap and they will wish they hadn't run from the tka.

Worse ranged proffessions (stay away please): pistoleer, commando, carbineer.

Pistoleers have terrible accuracy (98 at master pistoleer) and the tangle pistol sucks. So you may as well use your best republic.

Carbineers have good accuracy (no where near rifleman) but terrible speed. There is hope for these guys; publish 7 looks to be fixing the dizzy effect of full auto single and fullauto area which would put carbineers on par with bh confussion shot.

Commandos have speed and accuracy problems and 3/4 of the tree is totally useless.

Master TKA and 4404 combat medic is your answer. You will kill most everyone, can heal minddamage with no penalty (you can meditate the mind wounds you get, off). Your allies will love you and your enemies will send you hate tells all the time

And once again I'll point out that the issue here is why does any melee profession exist in the game when we know that they suffer in ranged combat because they simply get stuck with a lose/lose situation. Thats around 1/5 of the professions in the game having little or not purpose, like you said melee sucks in PvP which is exactly half of the game so therefore to keep the professions worthwhile there needs to be a reasonable balance struck between ranged and melee combat because at the moment ranged is vastly superior with no genuine weakness.

Whydo youeven playa melee profession? If your entire reason for playing SWG is PvP, then why aren't you a commando/combat medic/rifleman?

You say that 1/5 of the professions have little or no purpose; well by your reasoning, I would say that about 25 of the professions fall in that category.

Your entire argument comes down to this: "I want to be a pure melee character, and I want to "own" in PvP -- since that isn't happening, please change the game mechanics so I can" Perhaps SOE will, and you will be all set, but if they don't ... you still have a total of 250 skill points that you may want to consider redistributing somewhat to pursue your goals.

I think the effectivness of KD/Dizzy should be reduced and I don't think there should be any compensation? Harsh? Possibly, but consider this.

I'm a master rifleman who PvPs a lot, I have no other combat skills so I learned when and where to engage enemies in PvP. Let's look at the 2 most common battle grounds, urban areas and open areas.

If a TK is hiding among buildings or inside one I can not attack. I have been foolish and tried a few times as I hope I can kill him with 2 strafe 2 shots, but I always learn the hard way it's impossible. I get KD/Dizzy usually before I even get one shot of. I have no way to take out a master TKA that hides inside a building, I either have to wait for him to get impatient or leave.

Then let's look at the open areas. This is where I can fight, as I am able to kite the melee fighters. But it's far from a sure victory. Due to characters having to load they can often be within 50 metres before I spot them. If they burstrun and I spot it too late they can get close enough to kill me with the usual KD/Dizzy.

So the point being is that I have no way to get a Master TKA inside a building, while he does have a fair chance (allthough small) to get me in the open. This IS star wars, and melee characters are extremly usefull if used correctly. Just like a rifleman has to stay away from the urban areas to be sure he always got 30+ m to his opponent a melee fighter has to learn where he can fight.

i'm confused with your reasoning quas. when we are on your domain in the open you have the ability to use your specials, but when we are fighting in buildings you don't want us to have the kd/dizzy?

I have no way to take out a master TKA that hides inside a building, I either have to wait for him to get impatient or leave.

it's called strategy. if you don't want to go in after him and he won't come out, that's called a draw.

If they burstrun and I spot it too late they can get close enough to kill me with the usual KD/Dizzy.

so if the rifleman spots me from 60m away and i can't make it to him what does that mean?

So the point being is that I have no way to get a Master TKA inside a building, while he does have a fair chance (allthough small) to get me in the open.

sounds balanced to me.

it seems by your post the tkm and rifleman are well-suited for their unique fighting environments. why would you suggest reducing a attack that supports that profs role. by your reasoning, if we reduce the kd we should also take away your distance you can shoot or your mind shots. i can't believe a rifleman is even talking on this issue. i'm constantly sent to the cloner from rifleman and i have never once uttered a reduction of skills. to be honest, i rarely beat rifleman anymore unless they stumble into my domain.

I haven't said once that melee should always win in PvP against a ranged enemy, I'm saying that the problem is that a ranged fighter going one on one against a melee fighter will always win. I'm asking for a fair fight here not an unbalance one. Yes I am saying that I want to be a pure melee fighter and will have a chance to win in PvP.. is that so wrong? Is it even remotely fair to be left out of the GCW because I chose to be a melee fighter?
