It seems to me that even over a year on playing this game I still havent scrached the surface on many things. I wasnt aware that there are non essential pieces to armor. It also seems that the guide can be used for just about anything not just elders.

Sounds like you've got the gear and the skills, I'm thinking you just need some practice to get your 'rhythm' down a little bit better.
(Edit: And you've got a great hammer, most of mine are around 690 or so max dmg, so it's definately not that.)

It's quite funny, I re-mastered sword about a week ago now, I was a little cocky when going after elders.
I was in such a hurry to put a dent into the NS population that I forgot my gloves
I drove around dath, and found a lone elder who had my name written all over her, I run up get an agro lure her away incase of any other spawns, I slap my intimidate on her, then my 2 mind bleeds, eat my foods, then start pounding her head. I quickly take a bleed and start to do first aid(I normally slap warcry2 on her to take time to heal my bleeds).
After I'm all healed up, i start to smack her again then I in the blink of an eye I'm dead. I was like what the hell happened there. So I rebuff head back out and find her again. I'm thinking ok she got lucky. I slap intimidate again and get down to buisness again. In the blink of an eye again I'm dead. Now I'm thinking to myself I've never died like this to an elder. So i'm rebuffing and I'm looking at my armor to make sure nothing is dead. Then I realized, I didnt have my gloves on
I felt so stupid lol

This helps....the armor stuff. I am much better now without all of the extra encumbrance. I wondered why everyone ran around missing armor until now.

Well with 80% special armor it dont cover ap2 which elders can use when they have a ph,lva,vl and a scythe equiped.. It took me awhile to figure out why i was getting hit so hard i thought maybe its my master swordsman master rifleman temp.. But then i decided to see wat wearing a set of 90% was like.. Let me tell you it makes all the diffrence in the world and wouldnt leave home with out it....
