For people have played MMO's in the past, you know that complete balance will never happen. So, I suggest a radical change in the eniter structure of MMO's.

Every month or so, a certain profession would be tweaked so that it would be almost invincible (so if this started now pistoleers would be the one's picked), so that way the averages of power of each profession would eventually equal out

If I said "is" then I am sure you would correct me saying that it is ineffective. So I said "supposed to be." Chalk it up to my bein gunshy at this point.

My impression is that it works fine. Yes, the opponent can get back up, but in the meantime you've had a chance to do stuff to them, as with knockdown....

-Raph Koster, Creative Director

Why don't you create a TK and try this out yourself using Lunge1. Theory sounds great, doesn't work at all in practice.

They get right back up and keep on running, you never hit once. Sure, you can spam Lunge1 all day long, but you'll always get "target out of range" for the swings after Lunge1 because it doesn't keep them down long enough to hit, and, you can't seem to hit them when they are running from you - oh, except for Lunge1.

Now, I have a question.

Why is Pistol Whip setup to be so much more effective then a melee KD?A few facts:

Using unarmedKD1 or KD2, the followingapply:

  • -207 HAM without VKs
  • -664 HAM with VKs and reduced range
  • The costs seem to be spread out across all three HAM bars, more in Action, probably something like30% / 40% / 30%
  • I believe the max range without VKs is 4m
  • without VKs on the damage seems to stay around the mid 400's
  • I don't ever KD with VKs on anymore, thats suicide

  • If I forget to put my VKs away (happens too often) before starting a fight, I die before I realize my mistake

Using Pistol Melee Defense 1 the followingapply:

  • -139with my FWG5
  • The costs seem to be focused from the action pool
  • I believe the max range with weapon is 6m
  • the damage varies from 300's to 600's
  • don't have to put weapon away to knock your target down, makes it very easy to use

  • can easily be spammed

Since Pistol Whip costs the least and primarily draws from the action field, it can easily be spammed. TK's affects mind, mind is what prevents it from being spammable. ALL knockdown's should draw greatly from the mind if they are to stay like they are.

Now, lets look at Disarm Shot 2. This is a sickly overpoweredknockdown that is being spammed. I watched and nearly quit after 3 Imperials abused this and other bugs to devestate everyone in Moenia. And they did so with utter ease. Be sure to view this snapshot(not mine):

http://www.subliminate.com/galaxies/screenShot0031.jpg

Oh, don't forget the latest knockdown, suppression fire.

A bit of my opinion in closing:

  • ONLY melee users should have any form of knockdown, period.

  • Knockdowns should be timer based in PvP, period. Otherwise, they will be abused, no matter how much you fiddle with the HAM costs.

  • Melee needs a /stick command.

  • Add an /unequip command to unequip whatever weapon you may be holding

  • If you can't bring a knife to a gun fight, why can ranged users run full speed looking backwards and have no problem shooting someone's eye out every 1.5 seconds without tripping or missing?

How I see it. The problem is the Devs tried to please everyone but it doesnt work. What I mean by that is this game is really about PvP or rebel vs Imps. There is really no PvE content in this game. No raid mobs no Big epic quests or anything like that. Where the problem comes in is when you have the people that do not like to do PvP and there is alot of people that feel that way. When the Devs decided to let peopel choice if they want to PvP or not is the down fall of this PvP MMORPG. In most if not all PVP MMORPGs you lvl fast so people can enjoy the PvP expect of the game. Here comes a nother problem the Devs made by letting people choice if they want to PvP. The people that dont do PvP think there is not content in this game and get fustranted fast. So the question should be how they are goin to convince a Lagre % of people that PvP is fun and worth while. A bigger question is How is TKA goin to last in PvP because thats what this game is really about. Its not by taking half our HAM from doin one special move thats for sure.

Oh yes, Holocron... one thing that is still troubling me:

Is lunge really supposed to let us close the distance between what is optimum for a ranged user (when they engage us) and where we stand? When mobs kite you something is clearly wrong... in fact the only tactic I can find for dealing with this is running the other direction until the AI changes it's strategy.

Why don't accuracy mods when kiting go to very very negative? I mean who can run full speed, and shoot over their shoulder with enough accuracy to ever hit me considering the situation? (That is, they are running away, and I amin a stronger tacticalposition (they have turned their back.) If Unarmed chooses to run, they have little recourse but to never hit. Why when ranged runs is the situation not the same? I'm talking about something like -500 nearly impossible to hit.

Why is it possible to be ranged user, and not suffer from the inability to tank?

Comment?

Holo,

Your list apparently is lacking "Frenzied Graul", "Rancor", "Gurreck". I find this odd, since they are tamable by a Creature Handler. Are you saying we should not be able to compete with a CH?

Raph, I pleasantly request that you guys take a serious look at other games' rendition of the martial artist. You'll find that most have heightened dodge/evade skills as well as natural armor, to make up for the fact that using any armor seriously hinders our class (same with weapons now). If we're to be armored, then we need lower HAM costs or TKA-specific armor -- otherwise, we really need innate speed-based defenses like dodge, evade, block, dodge ranged, etc. and they need to work really well. We take 99.9% of all damage in groups right now, and without defense we're dead in the water. That being said, these changes are definitely an improvement but we'll still get squashed.

Given the accross the board HAM changes, TKA's are not any more or less penalized for using armor than any other profession.

Knife to a Gunfight. There's your answer right there. You should get owned versus a ranged character who's far enough away. It's pretty simple. And TKA have a lot of little hidden things. Number 1.

They don't have to buy weapons save knuckles. And at Master, you really don't need them anymore. You do more damage then most other classes. You have dizzy (which is just as good as KD.) if not better. I've been hit by it, and you don't get back up once you get hit. You don't have to spam KD if you use Dizzy. My TKA friend tested it on me. It's rather annoying.

And as I'm thinking, why should you be able to punch while running full speed? Or kick? Wouldn't you trip on your keister? Maybe jump-kicking? Lol. You'd lose power by running, anyways. Should a ranged person have to pause to pull the trigger? No. You ever seen war movies with folks running and gunning? Ain't that the reason for it? Sure they pause to find cover, but-- yeah. Whatever. And HAM costs for KD for ranged people depend on the gun they use. It's all a ratio. Low HAM on a gun, low HAM cost for KD. High ham, high KD. Why not have yer local weaponsmith make you a knuckler with LOW ham cost?

And, I've seen TKA in action. They take down 9k ham creatures faster then any pistoleer can. Or rifleman, etc.

So far, TKA are the strongest pve class that I can see. Even with KD nerf, they still are. Most of them went Master Medic. So the costs of it, are still not bad at all. Considering it doesn't cost much, if anything at -all- to take TKA, Unarmed IV, some Unarmed XP, then wooptie.

You want to see a real broken class? Go find a Commando. Or a DE. Or a BE. Or a Chef. Or a Ranger.

If you experiment the ham cost down to almost nothing, then yeah-- you're going to be able to spam again.

Just find a weaponsmith who knows what he's doing.

Why are Pistoleer's good? Their weapons can be experimented down to lower ham costs. That's why it doesn't cost much. Does nerfing their ability make for balance? Not really.

Should the mind cost of KD be taken away from all classes? No.

Why not? -- It's what prevents spamming of KD endlessly.

That's why they didn't take it away. Yeah, Mind Damage sucks. But, it's there for a reason.

It's the great equalizer. It keeps players from killing everything without any worry at all.

It means you gotta pay attention. And sure, why do folks play riflemen, bh's? For the mind damage.

And, PvP for a while and see how good TKA are. If you get caught unaware, you're toast. If you're not paying attention, you're dead.

If you let a TKA get close, you're gone, poof. It's situational. In closed areas, yeah, TKA are going to plow through folks. It's why they're good in dungeons. It's why they're good in city-fights.

But in open country, they're toast. How is this unbalanced? One is better at something in different areas.

TKA are the elite melee class. Hands down. You ever seen a Fencer take one out, if they had equal skill levels?

You can't base what you've seen happen to a TKA or from a TKA alone. You have to consider that, different skill levels mean different things.

Would a Novice Pistoleer take a Novice TKA? Maybe.

Would a Novice Pistoleer take a Master TKA? Probably not in a closed area.

TKA hits burst run, kd's -- it's over. TKA needs something else though, besides knockdown. It's the only tactic they got. Oh, I forgot. Dizzy. It's aKDoT. And Stun. And intimidate. Silly me!

So, hey-- why not nerf the master weaponsmiths! They're the reason for the ham costs?! GASP!

And yes, I'm being facetious.

Oreudin go home dad you're drunk.

You OBVIOUSLY are a Ranged class that KNOWS your KD is spammable and WAY OVERPOWERED!

Dont worry though, it was either Holo or Q that stated in the DevTracker that Pistoleers are way OVERpowered, so just sit back, relax and enjoy the nerfbat when it catches up to your class, because trust me...it is coming.

"And I saw the seventh seal broken, and from it came a rider on a pale horse..and his name was Holo (and he was swinging the nerfbat hehe)

I have been against screaming nerf for other classes because it is a vicious cycle that repeats itself, but in all honesty it IS time for you ranged folks with incessantly spammed KD at low ham costs to feel the love that has been bestowed on the TK class.

It's obvious you aren't a TKA so please don't offer your suggestions in a hope to get us nerfed. You obviously don't know what you're talking about since most of the points you make are wrong.
