Thread: TKMs: VK's or No VK's
I just started using my VK's again when the Geo cave opened up, to many people trying for the same NPC's. Muon and Brandy can usually keep up with the mind drain from the HAM cost, but Doc buffs and liberal healing will keep the rest of your HAM A-OK.
Option 1 - Buffs are your friend. At least try to have food and spice buffs. It is worth your time to hunt down a good chef and buy 100k in food. Once/if they fix the stomach, food buffs will be even more useful. Pick up some medic skills and you can spamany moveall day. You will get the maximumkills-per-hour using this method. You wont even have to wear armor.
Option 2 - No buffs, un-equip VKs when using special moves, then re-equip to auto-attack. This method takes a lot more time to kill something.
Option 1 maximizes the killing potential of the TKA class.I only use option 2 when I make a bad pull or am just running around doing nothing important.Since it takes longer to kill mobs using option 2 , you might have to wear armor. Option 2 is for people that dont mind standing there and tankinga mob.If you want to kill something quick, use option 1.
Your play style and profession template also determine whether to use VKs or not. If you like to group, you might be able to rely on another person to heal you, so buffs andmay not be that important. If you like to solo (as I do), you might want to pick up some medic skills (or better yet Doctor skils).

Its annoying that all you people are not giving the best advice. Food and spice isnt the answer all the time. This is my advice:
Get a Master weaponsmith to make you the lowest damage VK he/she can and maximizing the build for less HAM cost. This way you get the AP, which is all that really matters, and not have to worry about HAM. The difference in damage in a VK means diddly. The AP is what shines ur damage. I believe the TK's actual fist/feet, (no VK) is 25 - 50. Adding an extra 100 - 140 max damage is nothing when stacked up against the HAM costs normally gotten from a regular VK. We get a Damage bonus for a reason. Rely on what you got, not always food and spices and buffs. Then you will truly gain respect of your peers.
This is actually the best advice I have seen on this issue. It is the AP that you need. I don't use VK's that much as a MTKA except in those situations that I encounter someone in "uber" kinetic resist composite armor. I use low HAM vk's for the AP and then rely on the skills that I have to stun, kd, and target the mind pool.
Well some of us want the AP and the best damage ![]()
Which is why doc buffs + brandy is the way to go and it will allow you to use vks without having to worry about your mind ham....

I've got a question related to this...
I've read the FAQ, and the formula for speed is as follows:
(WeaponSpeed * SpecialDelayMod) - ((WeaponSpeed * SpecialDelayMod) * (UnarmedSpeed/100))
So, as an Unarmed 4 dude, it is well known that I should use VK so that I can attack faster. I can figure out how fast I can attack, because I can look at the speed on the VK, but does anyone know
What is the WeaponSpeed for bare knuckles?
I'd like to reiterate drez's question.
What is the Weapon Speed for bare knuckles?
I'm still leveling up the Power Tech tree and I want to figure out where's the point that the +damage and +speed make it worth my while to switch to bare knuckles in damage per second. Right now with my 70% kinetic ubese jacket / bracers / pants, boost and brandy,I can spam specials all day and Health and Mind are ok. But my Action goes waaaayyy down. Currently I'm just healing myself, but long term (when fighting between buffs), there's got to be a better way.
I'm going to try and find some of those low damage, low speed, low HAM Vk's too. That might help a lot. I'd put up with less damage if it wasn't killing my Action bar.

Thanks for the response Arafu.
I'll look into the mabari, haven't really checked it out much. I usually only use the Ubese as my "work suit" when I know I'm going to be surrounded by high damage mobs. Most of the time I go unarmored and just wear the jacket to protect my +intimidate and +warcyr BE-enhanced shirt.
Then if I'm going into the Geonosian caves I wear my shiny new composite armor.
