After the big knockdown "balances" I gave up TKA and worked on another character on another server. Then I decided to come back and give armor a try. At the time, I was around 2-2-4-3, maybe a little higher in TKA. I bought a set of 58% kinetic ubese armor. I could solo two Sharnaff Bulls without needing to stim myself midfight. Now that I'm a master, I'm thinking of joining a faction mainly because I want to do the story arcs. I might also try some PvP, but I currently have no ranged profession, at all, so I'll need to work something out as a failsafe to kiting.

I use a full set of Composite (except boots and gloves) and can easily take down
things I couldnt even consider before it.
I just pop a muon for the tougher battles and wade in fists flying.
I can't use my specials in 'spam' mode like I used to, but KD2 UH2 works like
a charm!

I was a HUGE skeptic about armor before I tried on a set. Now I can't imagine
why a TKA would want to be without it.

If you are fighting durnis, humbabas, and the occasional Veermok... dont buy armor.
If you are taking out NPCs, Bols, Pikets, etc... Composite armor is the way to go for sure.

I'm using composite (sliced for encumbrance) minus the helmet for PvE. The set I use has an encumbrance of about 385/385/250 total vs my 750/400/400 750/400/400 900/600/??? stats. I'm a medic working to doctor so I need my mind regen unhindered by the +200 encumbrance of a helmet. At my level of TKA I need the armor, I'm not sure how the defenses (unarmed toughness) works with armor, but if it doesn't stack I will drop the armor when I get higher unarmed toughness so I can use more specials

One armor that I wanna try out is the Marauder armor, I read it has low encumbrance but haven't seen any good stats. There's also RIS armor that might start showing up soon, but the only benefit of it is that it'll drive composite prices down (hopefully).

I am TKM and the only armor I use is a Composite helm for pvp.

AR 1

Special protection

lightening - 60%

Acid - 80%

Effectivness

60% torest (except stun)

High encumberance slice. This thing still kills the mind so only use it when facing the 1 button wonder bounty hunters

armor definatly stacks with ure UT i hav wear 0 percent kinetic sliced to very little HAM the chest is 80 health for example. I mean against say a mountain squill i take 16 damage when the armos actually works lol, once in a long while a hit will get thoough wich sucks, but they will fix that soon. So like i said UT stacks with armor, i have never seen anyone else take 16 damage from a mountain squill.

But no one answered my question. Am i right to assume our melee toughness and kenetics % from armor do not stack?

Did a quick test one Loc using my unarmed skill and my (unspeced) 1-h sword skill test mob was a kusak.
My unarmed toughness is 29 my 1-h sword 0.
Max; min damage I saw with armor:
unarmed: 128; 68
1-h sword: 179; 95

if u do unarmed/1-h you get 0.71 in both cases.

So I would say armor and toughness stick.

P.S. I you ever got something like 1000 damage from a FT and your armor took 800 damage away u know where it is good for.

I wear full Advanced Chitin except for an Advanced Ubese Jacket for 63% kinetic on all pieces for minimum HAM encumbrance when I go get unarmed xp.

I look like a fool but I tank like a Graul Mauler and I can do specials with doc buffs.

For PvP I wear composite of course. Get two suits: a beater set for xp and an elite set for PvP.

for PvE - you can do it just fine without armor, we have stun/intim so not too much too worry about once you get those on. I solo Dath/Ednor all the time without a pet/armor/buffs.

PvP - at least a helmet, with how my stats are - i can not wear a full suit of composite, so i just use a comp helm.

Being a Zabrak, i dropped all my secondary low, so i can not usearmor without crippling myself, unless i feel like shifting my stats again. (Human/Trando most likely have no problems with it)

900/300/300/900/300/300/1000/500/900 - if you're curious.

Well went and got a full set of composite armour, To be able to use the full set (even without the helmet) I need to buff my stats (as a doc this is easy for me).

From my experiance in pve, I found yes even though the armour did gut the damage down it was not really worth the amount of mind secondary stats it ate it. I had all my health and action stats buffed between 800 and 1600 each. With this amount of buffing even there full damage was not really effecting anything as with regen stats ofaround 1500, the damage was repairedso fast it wasvirtually non existant.

With mind using the armour cut the mind secondaries down (could get around this by using muon gold, but thats another problem). This in turn increased the cost of the specials on the mind pool, which in turn ran the mind pool down even faster. With a helmet on this is even worse.

So I think yes armour does have a use with TKA, but mainly for closing the distance. Also if you cannot use doc buffs then yes it is probably a required defence or you will be dead before you reach your target. With doc and mind buffs (powerboost), it is probably not required for all situations.

For reference I play human with stats 800/400/400 800/400/400 1000/600/600

The fact I use buffs I could migrate some of the primary heath and action to the mind pool secondaries (they are the old max values now, so may not be able to go higher if the stat changes are a bug), but that would cripple me if I didnt have buffs. So it is all a question of balance that works for you.

use a psg to close up the distance

a tkas body is his weapon and armor

we have intimidate warcry stun dizzy kd blind specific pool hits, spin attacks at our disposal, used in a right way u could be tanking a jedi for ur fellow group members

in pvp, i like armor but usually prefer my bio engineered clothes with bonuses to the various moves stated above.

armor can cut ur damage by 85% ( ap0 attack and 70% resist).. a well put warcry can cut damage done by 100% and give u 20 seconds of sancctuary,, 20 second= time enough for 20 deadly moves with a tka, play smart and u wont really miss ur armor.

also in RP terms wearin armor as a tka would be unjust

I got a 63% Composite Helmet an I think a 64% Composite BP.

Together with Powerboost it made PvP a much better experience for me.
