I question whether our defense being so good that we dont need armor is true.

Some professtion get defense as well as armor mitgation which give them back some of thier defense. You's think our defenses will surpase them having both armor and some defense?

"I am both scared and excited by the possiblities in the CU.

BUT, will TKM have the abilities to solo anything?? Some of us love TKM because it gives us the power to defend ourselves as well as defeat our enemies.

ALSO, what new sound/visual changes, if any can we expect? Are TKMs gonna sound like Bruce Lee??

FINALLY, will I be able to keep my current TKM/MRifles template?"

75 Unarmed Defence

70 Pike defence

No. you're thinking of the new system in the context of what's in Live today.

The only people to get mitigation are BH
Pikeman "tank" by lowering the defenses and damage of the opponent.
TK's tank by avoidance.
No one has gotten to elite yet to see how this really works, but I imagine that we will avoid A LOT of hits.

Think of it this way, Teras Kasi is the ONLY profession that is rated a 5 for defense. (all rankings are 1-5)
I know this sounds like it won't work without armor and such, but that isn't the case.

please, just wait and see.

Wait and see what! Its obvious we get 5 and pike get 4 defense ratings.

Example

guy runs 100yds. in 9.4 is the fastest man 5 for speed

but the guy who runs 9.5 is first loser. 4 for speed

Who decided we are 5 devs right....... yeah right

When using the carbine, do any defences change since we can profession stack?

Can we use a two handed sword to do advanced tkm moves, since we are certified in it?

Good good questions! I'm quoting them again, cuz it's exactly what I'd have asked about. *can't wait to see the answers*

If you equip anything other than a knuckler, you lose Unarmed Defense.

If you equip any ranged weapon, you lose the use of Center of Being.

You can use any melee move you own with any melee weapon you are certified for. You can also use any ranged move you own with any ranged weapon you are certified for.

Not quite true.

As TKA we should get a deffence that works no matter what as long as we don't wear armour. Keep in mind it may not show in the skill trees.

As far as I can tell, it's Center of Being that makes TKA the defense masters. No other profession gets that. Supposedly the only thing that will prevent CoB (and/or other TKA defenses) from working is armor. It's the opposite of the old system, where armor didn't matter but wielding the wrong weapon prevented CoB from working.

If you think about it, the new system makes more sense. Wielding a pistol shouldn't make it harder to dodge, covering your body in metal plating should.

You can only use CoB with a melee weapon equipped.

Heres to hoping this patch has the new character sheet.

The thoughts and feelings expressed may not coincide with your own dear reader, but too bad they're mine and they are just as valid as anyone's

My main fearIsthat the CUis going to change the dynamics of the game so that you MUST be grouped to both gain xp and do missions except for the most basic newplayer type content. (1-3k missions)

EXAMPLE: Look at JTL and wonder why the tier 2 missions on up are so damned hard you practically NEED at least one wingmate that is at least tier3(if not Pilot Ace) or about three or foursame tierfriends. Remeber having to look for someone to help with the missions? Scared yet? If you need a group to get even 5-10k missions Don't expect to make any money quickly either. Keep the solo group nerf in mind. Better grind out those missions and make as much as you can, while you can. Because Isee the game economy going the way of EQ2, after six months finally getting 50k lol

That was the reason I left EQ( and will never go back) and why I never went to WoW or EQ2. I can't stand wasting an hour or more to get a group, just to get a few xp's or a smattering of cash/loot. The one thing that I was happy with and that was unique to SWG was that I didn't HAVE to group if I didn't want to. Granted there is some content that I couldn't access without a group and thatis completly as it should be. I can get my guildies to go with me to DWB or the Vette, and I have enough friends (non guild)to get a NS hunting party going if the mood is upon me and no guildmembers are on.

Since I haven't heard anything about it I thought I would ask.

JTL is all about personal skill. And I worked all the way through Rebel pilot, not once, but TWICE without help except on the Corvette.

As for the rest. IF you're a combat profession, even a low damage dealer like TKA, you can solo stuff thats white con and progress reasonably. But to get to the big stuff, yes you will have to group. But I read the group size is now 8. 8 people.. taking on the Corvette orDWB. Is that possible before the CU? I think they've actually made it better at the high end for soloing AND grouping.

Yes, JTL is a twitch based game. It's also about the components you use as well. If you don't have the best parts you will find it much harder to do.More often than not, it comes down to how good the part is,not the skill. Try flying Imperial and see how it goes. I flew Imperial,Rebel and Freelance at Launch ( yes I made three toons just to try them all) rebel was the easiest to fly, and yes I didn't need much help especially after I got my X-Wing. JTL was designed for the majority of people ( the average player) to group to get the missions done. I understand that there are a few who don't need the help due to skill and the ability to get the better components. I was using it to show the line of thinking that SOE is known for, I could have used EQ or EQ2 just as easily.

You still didn't really answer the question though. I accept that to access the High End Content like DWB and Corvette that I need a group. Nothing different there. The fact that the group size is now 8 makes no real difference to me.. The DWB and Corvette will still be plenty hard, but now it will be a bit more accesable due to not having to get 20 people to go. I've done them both so I don't care anyway.

My concern was really if you can still make enough to pay the maintenance on your buildings, or City if you happen to be the only one paying the Maint on it. ( I know plenty of people in that sittuation) with the new system. I don't mean doing Mokk missions for a few mill a day like before the Solo group nerf.

I mean exactly what I had posted:

My main fearIsthat the CUis going to change the dynamics of the game so that you MUST be grouped to both gain xp and do missions except for the most basic newplayer type content. (1-3k missions)

I wasn't talking about High End stuff like DWB or the Corvette. I was talking about stuff like the Rebel or Imperial Theme park(which I did as a Master Marksman trying to get Novice Commando with no buffs and no help and mabari armor)or just doing Missions for credits and resources.

As a TKM/MCH I don't think I will have much to worry about especially since I don't need to "Grind" anymore. At least until I decide to try a new proffession. But I don't like being "Forced to Group" unless it is something obviously High End. I can solo a Picket lair with no problems, will that be the case after CU? Or will I have to find a few other people to go with me and then I might as well just do 3k missions. That was what I meant.
