I see a brotherhood... a secretive one at that. One has mastered control of their own body. One who sees the use of modern weapons as a weakness. (Going EU historically here) One who has shuned the force seeing it as an unimaginably evil weapon. One who has absolute control of his apendages and can manipulate them in a way that can delever rapid deadly blows with supreme accuracy. One who doesn't like capturing theattention of society but would rather "watch" with an ever vigelant eye and help where ever is needed. One, if good, hates evil with a firery passion, and if evil, hates that which is good with the same focus. One whocan find the peacein every situation and place in an evergrowing chaotic universe. One who iswise. One who is understanding. One who has reached physical perfection. One who has reached mental perfection. And it allcomes down to one...

My Wookiee Master TKA/Master CH, has embraced the TKA mentality in order restrain his otherwise natural tendancies for beastial rage (he had a very bad child-hood!).
He finds peace with the animals, feeling so much akin to them (in more ways than one). And through TKA, he has found at least a semblance of inner peace.
However, when the chips are down (or a cute entertainer or medic) - WATCH OUT! WOOKIEE FLYING FEET OF DEATH (tm) shall surely rain down upon the enemy!
Grawarr, Naritas, currently enjoying the carnage at Ft. Tusken.
In general, I did envision the TKA profession as monk-like but with the high honor of Samurai warriors of Japan. Kind of like a Kensai of the body and spirit.
Jedi uses the Force to it's full potential, while TKA use their OWN MIND and BODY to it's fullest potential!

A lot of you don't seem to understand the background of the Teras Kasi. We are NOT monks, we are NOT ninjas, we are NOT samurais, we are NOT reclusive.
Teras Kasi is a rare form of martial arts created by the Bunduki who lived on the world of Bunduki in the Pacanth Reach. It's a hard-hitting, swift, and athletic combat form whose name translates into "steel hands."
Examples of Teras Kasi Artists in Star Wars Universe:
-Pike Sisters: twin sisters employed by Prince Xizor as assassins for Black Sun, these sisters were renowned throughout the galaxy as some of the deadliest individuals available for hire. Both sisters had been involved in many events, competitions, and had served under many powerful individuals as bodyguards.
-Prince Isolder: prince of the Hapes Cluster, this handsome fellow was the royal servant of his mother Ta'a Chume. He almost married Leia during the formative years of the New Republic, but instead found love with Teneniel Djo (a witch from Dathomir). He was one of the few individuals skilled in the arts of Teras Kasi--using it as a self-defense mechanism against many of the vast conspiracies that threatened and plagued the Hapes Cluster.
As you can see, both examples of TKA users are not monks, ninjas, or samurais. The Pike sisters are mercs and Prince Isolder is a noble. Both examples did not watch the Jedi to keep them in check as many of you suggest. In fact, I'm not even sure who came up with this idea--I've been involved in Star Wars lore for close to a decade and I've never heard that.
A Teras Kasi Artist is simply an athletic individal who has the ability to use powerful punches, agility, and quick reflexes to defend himself against attack. And it should be noted that TKA's are rare.

For 95M3 who say the "empty hand" style of TKA shouldn't include VKs...
You are thinking of "Karate". "Kara" is Japanese for "empty", "te" is Japanese for "hand". Teras Kasi is not Karate.
Teras Kasi actually means "steel hands". So why is it so against the nature of the style to carry something metal in your hand?
Nothing about Teras Kasi says you need to be unarmed. You train in unarmed combat as a brawler to become TKA, but a brawler doesn't have certification in VKs, which means he truly is supposed to be unarmed. Once you reach TKA you gain the VK certification.
So tell me again why VKs don't fit with Teras Kasi?
As to the real background of Teras Kasi:
At one point Lucasarts licensed a Star Wars game to the Playstation game system. It was called Masters of Teras Kasi. Teras Kasi was described as an ancient martial art that utilizes the Force. Although the game is called "Masters" of Teras Kasi there was only one. Her name was Arden Lyn and she had a robot arm. She was hired by the Emperor as a mercenary to track down high-ranking members of the Rebellion and assassinate them.
That is actually where Teras Kasi first appeared; as an excuse for a Mortal Kombat style Star Wars game for Playstation.
So what is Teras Kasi to me? Nothing noble, nothing mystical. It's a style of fighting that utilizes the body's own abilities. It's a way to maximize the potential of your own body and turn it into a weapon. How you use it is up to you. It's no more mysterious or poetic than a sword or blaster.

I dont think it honestly matters at this point b/c Tera Kasi will at current time never be any of those things you all have posted. I dont expect the Tera Kasi to become like anything near the EU until the Double Elite classes they talk about in the expansion, and even then I hoping it takes a great amount (if not all) skill points to obtain.

I see Tera Kasai kind of like the Samurai.
Great warriors who always practice their skill but also great artisans. The way of the samurai as Musashi put it is Pen and Sword in accord. I look at the Tera Kasai that way as well, of course its Craftin Tool and VK in accord

The Teras Kasi Artist is at one with his or her mind and body both spiritually and physically. Through sound disipline and training he or she is able to focus their internal energy on single attacks or defense. They can bring these powers to bear for good, evil or their own benefit.
The Teras Kasi philosphy is one built around the strength of self. We are believers in our own powers. We overcome with our unity of self. We train together, work together and hunt together, but we are most comfortable on our own. We can meditate together, but meditating in solitude is our preference.
Much like the Ranger is at one with the wilderness, we are unified in the knowledge of self. We are the most self-sufficient combat profession. There is nothing out of the range of the Teras Kasi when we apply ourselves. Do we hunt the Jedi? Only if that is your task. My task is being a proud Trandoshan hunter. I am at one with myself and the natural elements. My weapon is myself, both for offense and defense.
Our honor lies in being true to our calling. If killing rebs is your calling, then so be it. If defending the less fortunate is your job, then employ all your strenghth of self to do it. Find your point of light and follow it.

1. Not everyone is a fan of or has read the stuff in the EU.

Everyone is right actually in my mind.
Teras Kasi is a tool, just like the force. Some people use that tool to reach spiritual enlightenment, some people use itsolely as a weapon of war, some find a happy medium and use it as a spiritual enlightenment found through the art of war.
The one thing that we all have in common is the finely tuned abilities that have sharpened our senses, reflexes and bodies into deadly weapons to such a degree that weapons are no longer needed.
Teras Kasi is the substance, we are merely the containers.
