My understanding is yes but you will lose the TK defenses in favor of the armor defenses.

I use TKM as backup defenses and fighting if I get rushed while doing my Sniper (Rifleman) activities. So this now means i have to strip off my armor when they rush at me, if i want to have any chance of survivng CQC. This is STUPID !

What!? What part of "you dont need armor" dont you understand? Even if you have rifle you still have the unarm defense so you dont need armor.

Remember Fencers before stakcing was capped at +125?

Basically, TKA is the new fencer, uber dodging.

So from what I've read,TK has uberinnate defences, and cannot wear armour. If they wear armour, they lose their innate TK defences in favour of the armour's defence stats. What happens when they equip a lightsaber and/or Jedi robes? Will TK be the amazing prof to grind Padawan with that it looks like to menow?

The SWG Forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of
catassery and buttmonkeyism. We must be cautious.

"they'll be really hard to hit, but when they get hit they get hit hard"

So how exactly does that classify us as tankers if we can't take hits? I never knew that in any martial art you took that your training while making you fast made you so weak at the same time.

From what I'm reading we can move around quickly, we can do no better than land jabs, and we stand the chance of getting knocked out in three hits. How exactly does that work for someone who studied the Bunduki art of "Steel Hands". I'm worried we'll be too ineffective to be worth it and I hate thinking this way.

I'm a "StormTrooper" sniper. so I guess my faction armor is usless now. I understood that I didnt "Have" to wear armor, but now I can no longer look like a "StormTrooper" and remain functional unless I give up TKM or it's abilities. And before you say ST dont need it, that's not the point. As a "Marine", I could handle rifles quite well. But I didnt need to take off my helmet and flak jacket when rushed by the VC, I just went into "Close Quaters Combat" mode.

Oh well. So much for not forcing us into unwanted professions and playstyles.

The defense skills are called Unarmed Defense. And the description says 'When using an unarmed melee weapon'. Which means fists or VK's. Other professions won't benefit from TKA defenses if they're holding a weapon or wearing armor from that profession. Only UNARMORED TKA's using barefists or VKS benefit from UNARMED defenses.

Not entirely correct. That may be all that is listed at the moment, but the way it is supposed to work is that all defenses from TK will be active unless you equip armor. I am not certain if this extends to Jedi or not, and only testing will tell.

No longer holding out hope, SWG will never be the game we fought so hard for, that we believed so much in. Farewell friends.

What's the big deal? I fight as TKM w/o armor right now in the current system! The only time I armor up is for NS, Krayts, Observers & other high end mobs. Big Deal! I hunt ancient rancors in my pink hawt pants! I prefer to fight my TKM w/o armor, I think this is a long time comming & I am glad it's here. If you don't like it pick another prof.

On a side note, I do the same w/my swordsman. He too only runs around in BE clothes in the current system. Most of the mobs out there you can solo w/o armor, tuskens (pls), mokks (laughable), janta's (so scared), blacksun (non-dwb, easy).

If you don't know how to fight w/o armor, you better learn a prof than can. And leave TK to the players than know how to play.

yeah, i pretty much only use armor in live for the big stuff...however it appears that nunas are currently as likely to be big sutff as akxva with a couple protectors.when krayts hit for 17k instead of 400, it'll make a big difference. we'll be at the obvious disadvantage as there's nothing telling us what "unarmed defense" is. i wouldn't assume this will make us like pre-cap defense stackers if i were you unless you want to be disappointed. the devs never said we would be unhittable, what they did say was that there's too much melee and they want more gunfire to make it feel more starwarsy. expect that bh's are going to be the ultimate tanks and our sole benifit is that we can spam 2 or 3 specials that are on different timers without using action (unless we actually use one of the unarmed "weapons"). at least this changes the grind from the hardest pre-advanced prof grind to the easiest. that will help none of us but mean that more people will grivitate to it and increase our numbers which will tell the devs that 'hmm, unarmed must be overpowered' which leads to nothing good.

using cob adds 250 (whatever that means) to our current 40-or-so unarmed defense (at unarmed 4)and is noticeable, yet negligible which leads me to believe the actual tk defense will be equally negligible. btw, it is called unarmed defense so it most certainly won't be available when another weapon is equipped (unless it's bugged to do so which means it will be "fixed"). so far my chances at survival are higher with an sg82 euipped than unarmed. imagine what it's going to be like when they fix ranged npc's to kite like they used to (at least we'll have OMFG tehUBER TAWNT!1!11one!1 for that)

so far the benefit to the cu is that i've had the opportunity to use the aformentioned sg82 more in the last few days than in the 2 years before that. we're going to be at the disadvantage for not having armor certs but that part of the game isn't even in tc5 yet so it's early to start cheering or complaining just yet (but the time will come eventually )

...but beware the darkside, it has a rediculously higher force cost and will lead to being ganked by exploiters...

I wonder as a Master Commando, we get Assault Armor certs and migration. We still have a short range on the FT (25m) but we have a cert for a unarmed weapon...so what happens to us......

You're problem is obvious. Pull your head out of your a$$ before you stink yourself to death ! This isnt your game, We have the right to play as we want also. Or at least try to get the Devs recognition that we want choices.

You'll be a guy in assault armor with some explosive weapons and some very limited unarmed combat.
