Thread: BH Knockdown Nerf Foiled Already
In regards to the PvP side of the issue.
The solution is simple and this is a simliar problem that many other online games have faced with such type of attacks. You have to add a timer in PvP to prevent the abuse of things like KD. Otherwise, those folks who can will abuse and spam, they will finda way. HAM adjustments will only hurt those classes who need it to hunt effectively.
Anyone remember the name "Stungard"? (early DAOC ref) You could 'spam' stun/mez on folks and kill them one by one with utter ease. Basically, thats what you are see'n in SWG. They added timers and abilities to counteract the affects.
So, there needs to be a timer and I would even say some sort of master melee ability to counteract an affect (on a timer as well probably).

No timers! Just remove the effect stacking.
A timer would work if they could do it CORRECTLY, DAOC vs. stun the timer only start when the effect of the stun ran out, and of course you couldn't be stun while already stunned. If the stun was RESISTED the timer did not happen.
I don't feel confident that SOE could pull this off, they haven't shown me so far they have the ability.
I was the original poster of the quoted thread.
Yes, the knockdown workaround for HAm costs being overly high is to use teh DH-17 or CDEF carbines, sliced down as close to zero as possible.
The problem is, the rest of the BH profession is either pre-broken with bugs, or gated due to the nerfs. I find it unrealistic that DEV will actually nerf newbie weapons to accomplish a further gating of an already hurting profession.
The question here is how to 'fix' the problem?
I recommend the TKA be invulnerable to positional change attacks. You cannot be knocked down, unless by another TKA. This solves your problem, and is realistic to assume that you have mastered the ability to define for yourselves which position to fight from.
Then restore the old HAM costs to knockdown for the ranged professions. It's intention was to keep pistoleers from spamming the Pistol Whips on you. Yet, they are the least effected by this across the board increase in HAM usage.
Instead, and in addition to the above, the Pistol Whip should have a timer placed on it, in reference to the fact that this is a full range of motion action taking place and takes time to implement. It's not like they are masters of melee and they shouldn't be. Why shouldn't other ranged knockdowns be effected by this timer? Because, they are pulling a trigger, how long does it take to twich a finger?
This should balance things out and solve everybody's problems, as well as make more realistic some aspects of the Pistoleers specials.
