Heh. CHs are like the Druids of EQ. Everyone seems to despise them.

I do not see how they make it any faster, anyway? They are an XP sponge. Every bit of damage they do is XP you don't get. Same goes for bleeds, any damage it does is Unarmed XP you don't get.

I have detailed how to do this in other posts (which I will not do here). The fastest unarmed xp (in brawler) is behind astarport killing the smugglers, theives, or whatever they are called in your town. Usually 3-4 of them and they respawn instantly when a corpse is looted. Static spawns are the fastest xp bar none. Anyone who has ever grinded in a game that really made you understand grinding (EQ) would agree.

Once you get TKA I would suggest Huurton Stalkers. They spawn in packs of 2 on Dant and only have a 15m aggro raduis, so single pulling them away from the lair is a breeze. They have a dizzy attack but no posture change (so effectively they have no special attacks). 10k ham, easily intim'd/stunned/blinded.

it allows you to take bigger mobs. so more xp not less.

Since you have a cap on the max xp you can get this really doesn't matter. At some point bigger = same xp as smaller.

JiveTimeMofo wrote:

plus less down time healing means more up time grinding.

You have to heal your pet just the same. How is there less downtime?

JiveTimeMofo wrote:

bleed does not steal from xp. i've tested this many times. they fixed that long time ago for the "exploiters"

the fastest xp so far for me is dath with a pet. 100k xp/hour. 8 missions/ hour with 1 frend and2 pets.

Cool. I did not know that about bleed. So if I hit a Huurton Stalker one time with my fist and then bleed him to death I will get 4k unarmed xp?

On Dathomir I can get twice that xp withouta pet or a gun. Medic > CH for TKs.

Correct on the droid bit. If driods are good for anything it's to give you 25% more xp from a kill.

if you hit him with bleed only. ONLY bleed with the pistol, and finish him unarmed you get full xp.

pc wounds take time to heal plus stims. mind wound etc. pets. take one bite of food. no cantina. 2 sec of down time for wounds that could have been put on you.stim time is equal. same reason why people wanted us as tanks. so they wouldn't have to take the damage.

xp cap is on how much xp you can store not get. i was soloing sharnaff bulls on coronet for 3k xp each and sharnaff for 2k each. does that seem like a cap. this was at unarmed 3 novice tka.

it all depends on the pet. you use too strong a pet and you will lose xp. i use only a rock beetle or krevol. only lose about 400-500xp per fight. but i gain more time to fight.

use a pet and see. until then don't knock the benefits. if you found none then you didnt' use it right.

well if you like doing it completely alone, go to dathomir and kill giant baz nitches. extremely easy when you pull them from the nest. and yes you can still get single giant baz nitches from the nest, just have fun when you hit the lair 3 times, and 3 spawn instantly.

its still a lot nicer to have a pet tank. why? no down time. the only times you get hit are when you use up HAM for specials. when my pets all die, xp goes really slow because of downtime. but hey it is possible.

"I think the point of the original post was that these guides should focus first on how to best make use of your abilities as a Teras Kasi artist, and put other professions you might have in a secondary position. We do indeed all have 250 skill points to spend as we like - some of us may be Creature Handlers, some Pistoleers, some Commandos, and some (like me) Droid Engineers. The point is that a person reading this forum *could* be any combination of things, but if they're reading a guide for advice on how to proceed down the road to Teras Kasi mastery then they *are* definitely at least a Teras Kasi novice.

First you need to focus on what you can do as a Teras Kasi Artist. Once you know how to use your abilities and get the best effect out of them, consider how to bring other combat skills you might have into play. You'll not only succeed this way, but you'll be a better Teras Kasi Artist for it because you've focussed on your core abilities and have learned how to use them most effectively.

Malachus
Eclipse
Teras Kasi Novice
Novice Droid Engineer"

This guy seems to be the only one who *completely* understood my point. Yes, I understand everyone has their own flavor. But when you are coming to a TK specific board you should be giving advice that first applies to everyone, the question you should ask before writing up a suggestion is "Is everyone here a TK? Yes. Is everyone here A CH/Commando etc? Perhaps, perhaps not" It's okay to follow up your suggestion with other specific hybrid ones. But the focal point should be how to do it without one. In fact you should try to tie both in. Like saying, (just an example) you can solo a Giant Baz Nitch, but if you use a pet youc an solo it easier. Something to that effect.

One guy in the post spoke about his doctor skills. Should you use them? First ask yourself this, why did you pick them up? To make your TK grind easier, to make TK in general easier or are you interested in healing other people and such things that a doctor does? If you only took the entire profession to ease your TK grief then, I go back to CH. Because frankly you can have someone else buff you and heal you, theres no reason to sacrifice your SP to being a Doctor just because TK isnt working for you (I'm going on an assumption here im not saying thats your case). My point is more or less, you should be able to do whatever you want to do with your main class. And anything else you take up should be a supplement or something parallel IMHO (Malachus is an example of a Parallel, TKN/Droid Engineer [doubt he took it up to make his own infinite supply of probots ])

Anyways, thanks for some of the support here and I appreciate the disagreements as well. But I am a character whos gone through all of this without the use of a pet. I've had buffs a few times but the amount I can count on both hands. Have fun guys.

The only reason you needs pets as a TKA is for exp bonus. What I did when i was soloing exp was get both a droid and a weak non chpet. I grouped with both pets and left them at whatever outpost I was using to get missions from. Giant baznitch gave me 4.2k ungrouped and about 5k with my 2 pets. That is about 800 xp per kill i gained by simplay grouping with pets. So to summarize, group with your pets when you solo but don't use them to help you fight.

If you use pets to tank for you they take exp away from you. Personally I think its faster to just solo the mobs yourself. The key to beeing a good tka soloer imo is to get 10% (or better)kinetic marbi armorweave armor and get some decent med skills.

Yeah. I have my little jax, Salem and I just group him for a XP bonus and leave ihm around somewhere. It's amusing when I get tells like "You left your pet here" etc.

Some guy last night took it to another level he goes "Your cat is here, witch" ..Thats a new one.

Correction on the huurton stalkers needs to be made. While yes I used them to get to MTKA, they have more then just a dizzy attack when they hit me, sometimes they blind and on rare occasions have Intimidate. Also, I have been posture changed by them. 3 days from 0-1-3-2 to Master, thats all I fought. Maybe they are different as of now, not sure. Just my exp from fighting those jokers.

I did it with a MCM/doc 0-4-4-4. So my time was pretty easy. By myself it would have taken me a lot longer.

Once they incap you they DB you as well.

i solo'd my way through brawler to master TKA without a pet - i really had little down time. as long as you land intim/stun, you'll be fine for the most part.

i moved to Dath once i hit novice tka and started on baz nitches, then shortly thereafter (0-0-1-0), moved to giants.

through that process of learning how to pull, landing my debuffs, i learned how to play. i feel that many people who pick up CH to help ease them through TKA - have no idea how balanced and capable our prof is.

did you know intimidate works at about 30m? so you have some time to get it on there while things charge you. it gets to the point where you see just how well you can tank, and you would be surprised. (once i got the pattern down, i was making great xp for 3-4hour playing sessions. (450kish)

i found myself able to tank up to 3 giant baznitches (if i was able to get my debuffs on of course) but do you know how nice it feels when someone comes running up with a pet - sees some corpses and comments - "wow, you did this without a pet!"

yup i sure did and i will keep doing so,

TKA are the tank class of the game, from the prof ive played - one of the most balanced. (so much love for TKA's from the dev's)

You dont need CH, im not sure how much faster i would have xp'd with a pet -BUT medic helps alot.

just hit master with a pet and proud of it i used my pet as a team the only way it seems to take down pikets which are great for unarmed xp.

send the pet in and 5 attack it and pikets dont accept pets as tanks cause they walk around so much and decide to attack you.

its the only way tosolo the ewok missions on endor

and ive only buffed my stats once. rarely wear armor but i have a full suit of composite in emergency.

but i do agree pets are making it easy to xp, but isnt that what the devs intended i respect the class of ch just as much as tk we work together to get the job done.

btw try doing jedi missions on dantooine you will wish you had thathuge petwhen the jedi knocks your butt down in1 hit with that 2k hit

Right now pets are the best way, previously us original gansta teras kasi's who had the sweet splendor of lunge and knockdown working repeatedly (as well as dizzy) un-aggro'd baz nitches, and the like; that was our fast way nitches, nyms, nightsisters, and occasionally tuskens.

yesterday i put my skills to the test (0242) and took on 'a wild dune boar'. 11k ham, 15% kinetic resist, ar 0, intimidates, stuns, deathblows, 490-500 base damage, creature level 50. (i know all this b/c i'm a master ranger )

it was a good, long, fight. very exciting and very tense. both me and my target kept each other intimidated the duration of the fight, so that dragged it out even longer. when i got his ham down to about 1k, i was also running low on health, and my intimidate on him had just timed out. so i decided to put all my eggs in one basket and go for the gold: i laid out a series of combos and hits, draining what little ham i had left, and with 40 health and 150 action, i felled the boar to be honest when the 'battle over' music came on, i wasn't entirely sure that i had won the fight, until i got my xp that is

anyway, it's my opinion that teras kasi artists are their own tank, and as such shouldn't need a pet meatshield. of course, were a second wild dune boar to have spawned, i would have won a free 1 way all expenses paid trip to the cloner. similarly, i can solo a baz nitch, but if there's 2 it's going to be a close fight, and i'll lose that fight at least as often as i win it (as i am now anyway). so what does it all mean? god forbid anyone should hunt using some tactics and strategy, instead of just sending in a pet to tank an entire spawn while you go and take them out 1 by 1 virtually risk free. i've said it before and i'll say it again, some people just like taking the easy way. well, i say to them 'suit yourself'. i am supremely confident that i will gain more satisfaction out of my 'training' then they will.

but in the end, all that really matters to me about the game is how i feel about my experience (^_^)
