Thread: My plan for the KD nerf: I see only two choices
No attitude, no jokes, no flames from me - just here are my thoughts: first of course I'm going to try to go on an agressive experience grind for the time until the patch comes out. I was enjoying just being very casual about leveling, but now I feel a dire need to make master before this happens.
But then...
I see only two real options. 1) Quit the game 2) Conform to what SOE wants and roll a marksman class combat character. I'm just not ready for the first option yet. For me, speaking strictly personally, there are still a lot of things I really like about the game. As far as the second options goes, I don't want to give up my TK character - I just feel I may need to set him aside for some months until SOE sorts itself out. I'll leave her with some surveying skills as well and she can tend to harvesters. Then I'll activate my second account and start doing combat the way SOE has litereally demanded it be done. I'll pick up a weapon, I won't even spec anything in the Brawler line unless it is for the sake of a hybrid profession.
To me this seems to be the only current way to combat the raping of melee. Maybe a few months from now, the pendulum will swing the other way and not just TKs but ALL melee classs will be made more viable. I woudln't mind at all if they were made more viable in other ways besides relying soley on KD. But right now that's our only choice, and its being taken away, so for now it seems that our class is on hold.
I actually had just started a 2nd account 2 weeks ago, taking him down the marksman path. And after two weeks of playing him, I decided to just let him be a weaponsmith and dropped even trying swg combat any more. Now that they have ensured it would take me the remaining year to finish my TKA master if I quit my job and fought nothing but lt blues, but I guess I will go back to EQ and play my monk again and hope SOE decides to get a clue about actual game balancing from the paying customer's perspective and not some suit who has never played a PC game let alone an online game in his life. Gee from a business perspective, the financial reports coming in of dropping revenues would personally send up a red flag and I would fire the idiot making these decisions. Business 101, happy customer, return customer, RESIDUAL INCOME!! Stock Holders remain Happy! CEO continues to get BIG YEARLY BONUSES/PERKS! But obviously residual income was never in this corporate thought process, just get in quick and make a fast buck.
I guess I will check back and see if my class gets revived for a couple more weeks before I pull the plug on my two accounts. I hope this game's bad decision making does not making it onto the set of Lucas's next SW film..That would be a huge disappointment. sigh..peace.
Eh...
* shrugs
I never used KDto much extentbefore to the patch, and I obviously won't be using it often after the patch either ![]()
Guess it depends entirely on what you want to get out of the profession. I have never asked much from my melee profession, choosing TK because if my weapon breaks I can just resort to hitting creatures bare handed.
Just be careful, our profession won't be the only one to get a nerfing. Just look at Pistoleer and the loss of KD entirely.
And fun times were had by all. ![]()
Seems like any skill that actually adds fun to this no content game gets nerfed, or in the pistoleer class, gets removed.
O well at least I will be playing the beta of WoW soon.
I guess when I thought of content I was alwasy thinking from a roleplayer's perspective, so "content" to me meant things of a social nature that make the game a more livable universe. So in that vein, it seems like SWG really has a lot of "content." The economy system is pretty complex, the options for character customization are rich - blah blah blah you've heard me say all this before. I'm not saying it to defend the game. I'm saying that I always thought that "content" were things like player cities and a player driven economy, rich options for characters, a strong social environment (so things like entertainer professions, player housing, PA halls, player owned merchants, etc) were what I defined as "content."
Clearly that is not the definition of other people -- so can you give me some thoughtful examples of what kind of "content" you think should be in the game and isn't? What do you mean when you say that? What would a high content or a rich content game look like?
selwynn why not do both hon.. be tka and pistoleer master then you have 60+ points to play with i got explore 4 and will be getting smuggler dirty fighting...
since the day they nerfed our kd to stupidity i have picked up a pistol and went for it.. i use both professions in a fight.. as i dont have pistol whip and since even if i did it wouldnt have stun i use kd2 then followed by warcry then i whip out my pistol health shot 2 body shot 2 a bunch of normal attacks with the gun untill warcry wears off.. then i may roll shot for the finishing move
the game has no content in that there isn't anything to keep you playing the PVE game. contrary to what people SAY, they do want to kill yon uber-mob for the "Sparkling sword of death", they want to do a COMPLEX quest (theme parks are broken and have no point, i got to see jabba's bedroom, AWESOME :confused
, and they sure as hell want to be able to play their class of choice. in an mmorpg, content is the depth of the "game" part of the game, if you catch what i'm saying. an RPG for a console is said to have "X Hours of Gameplay!" that means, this game has enough content to last you for X hours of straight-through play. developing content is the ongoing process of adding more places to explore, more mobs to kill, more loot to attain, more levels or skill points to grind, etc. the "social" content is entirely up to you, the player. because of the license behind star wars, and the fans it brings, there are a lot more people interested in having a good time socially than playing the game out; ie, a lot less of what you would call power-gamers.
now that i've ranted too much on content, i'll shoot for the KD timer nerf, if that's what you're speaking of (considering they are lowering kd ham costs again). it's a needed nerf, FOR PVP. think about it, every other game you play comes with limits on crowd control (stun/mez/root) in pvp. that's to keep you from totally disabling another player indefinitely, so that you both have a chance to change the outcome of a fight based on your skills as a player. without an immunity timer, it would have always been whoever got the kd first.
in closing, they need to take the final step in fleshing kd out in pvp; immunity timer- yes. making the knockdown effect last for the FULLDURATION INSTEAD OF THE FIRST INSTANT(as in, the player can't get up or run away while -knockdown- is in effect, instead of just not able to attack or take another action)- yes.
Selwynn, I am not flaming when I say this but quitting or rerolling your char is not going to improve the general TKA situation. Raph has been listening and responding to us and they are doing a lot to help appease us while still keeping the game balanced.
the KD change isn't necessarily going through, it's on TC. They might get enough feedback for it, etc.
Anyhow, if the community loses you, then we lose an important player in the game of getting TKAs in line with what they should be at. People quitting isn't going to help, we need people who are continually
Selwynn, I don't mean to flame so don't take this personally, but...
Quitting the game or rerolling your char is not going to help our situation at all. Raph and the devs have been doing quite a lot particularly with the TKA class to help appease us while still keeping the game reasonably balanced (or attempting to balance what is extremely unblanaced right now *cough BH / pistoleer*).
We don't know for sure yet that the KD change is going to go through, anyway. It's just on TC for now.
If you quit (and other masters) we're going to lose important players in the game of getting the TKA in line with other combat professions. Giving up isn't going to help, it's just going to make our numbers less and our goal harder to achieve. The best we can do is stick through it, continue to respond and give feedback in a civilized manner, and hope for the best. I would hate to see someone who put so much work into being a master suddenly give up, and I don't think it needs to be said that myself and the other ~1/1/1/1 TKAs out there are a lot more affected by masters like yourself quitting than the devs or SOE is. They don't give a **edit**, but we do, because we're really the ones who suffer.
But you still make good points.
