Thread: TKA Vs fencing
i first started out as a unarmed brawler and got a little into expert, after hunting with my friend (who is a polearm guy) i decide the amount of damage i did sucks i attack fast yes but he hits hard and in the long or short run he does more DMG. i didnt want to be polearm or axe so i decided to do fencing. i am almost master and its going ok but i saw a TKS hit for 2000 something and was wondering if i made a mistake and was not patient enough... If anyone could give me advice on weather TKA does more DMG later in life and i was just to lazy to put the work in or my assumtions were correct and fencing is better please post any info... Thanks
Zitrox
P.S. if you could also post weather or notclose combat does more damage then carbineer please post that aswell... Thank you
Another thing to consider is that if you wear a vibroknuckler you do double damage per hit.
However, I doubt you saw anyone doing 2000 damage. I hope you meant 200. I've done over 400 in one blow as a TK Student while berserk, but nowhere close to 2000.

If the target was using a rifle and lying down (knockdown?), while the TKA was using knucklers and possibly a special, they should be able to deal that sort of damage from all the multipliers. Any of the melee classes should.
Ok granted, prone maybe. I don't do PvP yet and NPCs aren't dumb enough to fight me prone, LOL.
I have hit a mob for 2905
tka skill tree is 0/3/2/2
Drackonn Shadowstep
TKA/Medic/CH
Scylla
As a master, with a VK 2.2spd 170 mg i do around 650dmg to meatlump type characters and average around 450 against even the toughest characters.
The most dmg ive noticed was against a Maurader on Endor i did 1960dmg with unarmed hit 3.
The DPS of UnarmedHit3 is crazy with a Knuckle. I love Teras Kasi!

I did a 2500 hit3, the highest ive done I think... Actually most of my hit3's are 2000+. I am not shi**ing you. I am a TKA/Smuggler medic/scout. My unarmed (no VK) hit3s are usually 1100 - 1300. Depends on what your hitting and its resistance to Kinetic I guess. It also depends on your VK. I think mine is 166 max at like 2.0
With Unarmed Hit 3 I have done about 3600 damage to a creature before. I think it was some sort of Huurton on Dantooine. However my crew and I DID happen to time a ranged Carbine Knockdown with my special move (coincidence), so I am sure that helped a bit.
As stated before Vibroknuckles do indeed help a great deal. But until you get TK Novice you won't understand how great they are! ![]()
Okay...damage-wise...I don't know where to begin...2000? Childsplay.
VKs on to a prone rifle-wielding Stormtrooper...7534 damage. That's just the combat window, the actual damage with the armor piercing factored in might have been different. I also have a screenshot proving this. Glad to post if necessary...just about tactics and knowing where and when to hit.
Have a pupil that's done 3577 ona prone swooper leader. Pupil was 1/1/1/1. Swooper leader said: "Thank, golly that was painful, can I have another?" Pupil "Yes"
Point is, if you time it right and use the right move on the right person (i.e. know your class and theirs) you can be a force of nature....and yes...you were too impatient. Sorry.
This type of thing seems to come up alot. Maybe TKA should have required master brawler to reach novis TK. the comparison vs TKA and other melee professions is alot like apples and oranges.
fencing is more closly related to pistol then anything else. fencing is simply mastering the art of using 1handed weapons. Infact they probably should have vibro certs, but then who would want to use a vibro when other weapons are better.
The TKA isn't the skill of unarmed as so many people would like to think. The TKA profession is more closly linked to an order, such as Jedi. This is why we have meditation tree. What does meditation have anything to do with unarmed? not a **edit** thing, but it is infact a seperate by itself self sustained hybrid melee profession. an order as i said.
The TKAs are supposed to counter Jedi's. On one hand you have force sensitive jedis running around. that not only learn to use the force, and a light saber, but learn other skills like deplomacy and negotiations. They arn't just taught how to fight, but how to prevent fights aswell. The TKA order was established because of fear of so much power in the hands of so few. TKs rivialed jedis in power...need an example read shadows of the empire.
now back to the comparison of TKA and fencing. if you wanted to simply brake it down into categories of combat.
I have leveled some into fencing, using a curved sword ive hit unstyled for over 300 per hit on white con mobs with 15% kinetic. Using vibros at master TK i will hit over 400, a diferance on average of 100-150 damage. The stagering comparison here is that i only had fencing stances and grips =P.
fencing is the faster of the 3 melee professions, but TK is faster, as you would suspect unarmed being. Although the speed cap atm is 1.0, the same speed cap can be reached with master fencing.
styles: effects:styles for fencing have more effects and better effects on thier styles, the advantage goes to fencing with effects IMO.
styles: ham consuption: again goes to fencing with the lower ham requirements to use specials. Letting the fencer chain speicals tell he is blue in the face. This is not the case for TK, and although im not able to log on and test the new changes to TK, im going to asume its still much higher then fencing.
armor: this benifits fencers more as stated above because of the ham requirements. a fencer in composite can use more specials then a tk in composite
styles: dmg: this goes to the TK, and a order that consists of percision hits with deadly timging, using body weight to produce even more hard hiting shots one would think this is the way it is suposed to be. Now equate this into this game. The differance in damage between the two unstyled isn't much, but the differance between the two using their best special is pretty big. unarmed hit 3 has huge dmg buffs to it, while the best fencing special has only medium bonus to dmg. The advantage for dmg per second goes to the TK by nearly 150 damage persecond using specials.
*note* as stated above tks are limited to how many styles they can perform. ofcourse if your a doctor that helps to counter balance this. by itself the TK vs fencing in this department though: the fencer might have the disadvantage in dmg but has the advantage in consistant dmg over and over. Tks dmg varries based on how much ham they have to use styles.
defenses: tka has higher toughness, but has less defenses vs effects vs fencing. The fencer has better defenses vs effects while the tk can absorb more dmg. like i said before the TK is not just a profession its an entire order. the idea behind the class is that they can take a beating better.
range: the worst range of any class in the game is a TK, the fencer might have bad range, but its still atleast 3m better then tk. 3m might not seem like alot of anything, but when your chasing somthing 3m can mean the diferance between death and winning.
over all combat: overall i think people just focus on TKAs dmg and forget the rest of the stuff, comparativly between fencing and tk overall combat effectiveness w/o the use of any other skills, they are pretty close IMO that is.
The thing that sets the two apart is the meditation line. healing wounds, and being able to add buffs to the class is why alot of people might pick tk over fencing. Like i said at the very begining, perhaps tk should have required master brawler, because tka is more then the skill of unarmed, there is more to tka then combat, and in fencings case, that is not the case.
if any melee profession was ever to get ranged attacks EI throwing darts etc, it would be TK.
