Thread: MxO in January! A haven for TKAs?

Well as a die hard TKM and RL martial artist, I'm getting the urge to try out 'The Matrix Online.'

Any other TKA's out there who have looked at it, or even someone who is in MxO beta? I'd like to get your impressions. The MxO combat system is supposedly much more hands on (or in the website's propaganda "tactile"), and from everything I've seen the toons there can actually pull stunts that I can't do -- other than, obviously, jumping 300' in the air
I'm getting real tierd of seeing the same 8 year-old green belt level "stunts" from SWG TKM's. Whats the first thing I see a toon doing in MxO previews? a Tong Fei! (aka barrel roll or butterfly twist) w00t!
But again a game can look wonderful, yet if it has a serious lack of content... like another certain game I know of... it's not worth my time or money. Like I said, anyone else have something to bring to the table about MxO? Go check it out. (no MxO/ WB/ Sega isn't paying me to post this )

Anyway now, here's the big question...
IF MxO turns out to be decent, any TKA's here want to form a TKA clan?
I sure as heck would love to. Get this group of die hards into a place where we can really let our skills fly. To hell with the guns, I know Kung Fu!

I was (technically still am) in the BETA. I was invited a long time ago, so granted it may be much better now as I would have seen an unfinished product supposedly, but it was the absolute worst MMO I have been involved in to date. I would not mind trying it again, but it would definitely be one I won't be concerning myself too much over.

No longer holding out hope, SWG will never be the game we fought so hard for, that we believed so much in. Farewell friends.

You guys must consider Bruce Lee to be a white belt.

lol, and good point. Bruce Lee didn't use 720 degree jumping spin kicks because he deemed them not necessary to be effective in a fight. If fact, he was often criticized because he didn't use flashy move in his films, he chose to film fight scenes that were not only believeable, but resembled his attitude towards rel life fighting.

If i remember correctly hewas giventhe nickname "Three move Bruce." Because all he really did was basic punches and kicks. But they were performed nearly flawlessly. Itis hard to fathom the amount of speed and power he could put into those "basic" movements.

flashy moves don't mean nothing if you can't hit your guy in a fight....

I too am a martial artist, and used to do alot of competitions until I got injured

Key isn't the "bigger" moves, but perfecting your smaall moves, and counterattacks...those win the fight, not the guy who can jump up and peform a 360 Tornado Round kick to a roll...why? because I'll move close between kicks, and knock him to the ground

Now, if you are more into the art of the style then hat's a totally different story...

Okay, everyone just shut up about MxO. It's not a horrible game. They've still got time to flush it out.

As it stands, MxO pretty much resembles City of Heros. You get the balk of your XP by doing missions. Missions, for that matter, are highly unpolished and need a lot of work. When you don't feel like doing missions, you can run around and kill NPCs. Now, I've heard but have yet to witness the AI potential in MxO. The best story I'veheard of NPCs working properly is this: guy shoots ata NPC from an elevated position. Two nearby NPCs react. One throws a virus on him and it starts to eat away at his buff. The other startsshooting at him while the initial NPC that was shot at by the player retreats into a building. The other two NPCswithdraw to the building while taking shots at the player.

The UI is tolerable.

Music rocks.

Clubs will be amazing places to hang out in.

I love the fact you can have interacting emotes between two players. Like, when you hug you actually hug. lol.

PvP and Group PvP will be amazing. I love just watching PvPers go at it. The moves get pretty intense.

I love how when you enter a building it's fairly different from the one you just went into. And when you look out the window you can actually see the traffic below and other players running around.

Weather effects are better than SWG.

Well, in terms of belts, my comment was based on the fact that I literally teach the TKA "stunts" to green belt kids.

Why? because its something they like to do. It holds interest, and rewards practice. My system is about middle of the road in that it takes 3-4 years to earn a Black Belt. Its not an instant grzatification system where you can buy your belt in as little as 18 months. What other reasons are there to teach the big tricks? Well if you can't do a good round kick on the ground, you sure as heck can't do a good one while 540 spinning in the air. Teaching tricks is a way to disguise physical preparation and technical practice of basic kicking.

In the world of performance Martial Arts, aka Open Forms, the TKA stuff is just weak.
However it's a world apart from various forms of sparring. Whether it be point sparring or submission fighting, then yes, fancy is just a waste of time. Just because Bruce Lee, for example, didn't perform larger stunts, doesn't mean he wasn't capiable of doing them.

Anyway back to the origional topic of the thread...
Thanks, to those of you who posted. I do expect things to be rough in Beta. The question is do you believe most of it will be fixed by launch? Or, a year from now, are there still going to be annoying core game bugs that should have been squashed in Beta... like in, um, I dunno... SWG!?!

i find it funny that in almost every game you can dodge bullets like Neo, yet, in the movies only Neo and Smith ( and friends ) could do it
