Thread: To VK or not to VK and when?

I checked the FAQ, but didn't see this listed...

I once sawsomeone ask a TKA if it was true that at TKM, you were better off not using your VK. The TKA said, yes, that is true.

Are you really better off not using a VK at high level TKA?

When do you start becoming better off with fists vs. VK?

Is this because of HAM costs? Damage? Speed?

Are there VKs that would be exceptions to this rule? (very fast, high damage, low HAM, etc.)

Its mostly because of HAM cost.

I usually use VK when i'm soloing, but not in group.

i only use vk's if i'm buffed or if i'm going agains armored mobs. otherwise no vk's. you can usually find low HAM lo-damage vks on the vendor like 70 max dmg and 12/21/12 or so HAM. i use these if i have to and i'm not buffed.

All sounds reasonable, thanks much.

I've been going out buffed, but even then, it's tough to keep up on mind spamming unarmed hit 2 in Voritor Hunters groups.

I only use VK's against armored targets or when I have to kill several things fast. Not worth it without buffs of some sort though.

Sort of along the same line at TKM do you use speed or damage sliced VK's?

Damage sliced. Speed is no use to us at master. I only use VKs in PvP and sometimes against armored mobs, or when using regular attacks instead of specials - which seldom happens.

most of the time I use a low ham VK with low damage but the other day I was killing Rancors solo and didn't even notice that I didn't have them on untill a few hours later. As a master your damage and speed are so great that the only time you really need to use them are on high Lev mobs like Elders or other mobs like that.

I am a Novice TK (0-1-0-0) with a set of, what I think of, nice VKs (90-140 dmg at 1.7 spd...not sure of HAM right now). I usually just leave the VKs on and pass on special attacks, like unarmed 2, stun, etc. Or, if I use them at all, I'll do a KD1 followed by 2 unarmed 2s. This usually is more than enough to take down a yellow mob without much trouble. Only downside is the HAM affect. It drains me rather quickly. After reading this post, I'm wondering if I shouldn't pass on my VKs and just go with the special attacks instead. It seems to me with that speed of 1.7, I could pull of more hits of regular attacks than 1 special, and there is no HAM cost.

Special situation??

Not a good idea. You are slow as hell since you havent gone up the speed tree. You need to keep your VK's on at least untill you get to 0140.

Go ahead and take them off and you'll see how slow you are......

ok here's the skinny.

as a novice or even at UA 4 your slower then a rifleman with extreamly low mind.....speed varies from5 to 10... yes that is slowwwwww.

but with a set of VK in your hand you instantly become the speed of the weapon enven though your not certified for it.... so it is verey helpfull for you to keep a set in your hands untill as previously stated you make it to at least power 4, then drop them suckers because you are now faster then they are... and with your bare hands you have a verey minimal ham cost....

Fighting a Nightsister elder I was lucky enough to barely get my bars showing white for over half the fight then near the end I was sweating a little hoping I could win... with a total of 15 health and 3 action she dropped...I managed to survive on e of the toughest fights in the game ever.. she had 36943 ham.... mainly I kept her on her back and dizzy while I chipped away at her health.
