I know this has been covered, but I suck and can't find it.

I'm a starting TK and have just gotten the exp for the first level of any of the unarmed experience boxes.

I know meditate isn't going to help me until lvl 4.

So, do I go for knockdown first, or the speed/damage bonus?

Get KD first, its a life saver and makes killin mobs alot easier(intimidate + kd seems to make intimidate work better)

Thanks!

So, KD:

Can be done once every 30 seconds on a certain target?
Lasts for 10 seconds?

Do you get the damage multiplier for hitting them while down?

Anything I should know on how to use it? Is the range still 5m, or does it have lunge range?

heh

I went through the Power line first, without any trouble. Now im halfway up the balancing line, 5 days after hitting TKN.

My progression of the Unarmed Combat XP lines was: Balance 1, Power 1, 2, Balance 2, Power 3, 4, Meditate 1, 2, 3, 4, Balance 3, 4. I think it is more popular to max Power, then Balance, then Meditate. It depends on wether you are more of a solo hunter or a group hunter, I guess.

Having only recently getting balance 1 and then power1 since the knockdown changes, I now find that the knockdown is no where as usefull as it could or should be, the defensive stats may be of benefit. Butthe knockdown Is virtually no good against anything that cons white and above, only way I can get a couple of hits is use a set of VK's sliced to 1.8 speed (plus the speed mod on top of this), even then there is an increased ham cost due to the VK's and the creature is up virtually right away, andif the knockdown does not get resisted. Then with the 30 second timer, you will not have time to use knockdown on the creature / NPCagain.

Only use I have for knockdown now, is mainly an escape move, use knockdown and hit burst run and get away fast, heal up then go back for more wounds.

And using the VK's I have found more benefit from the power line as the increased damage and speed help. And now I hardly use any of the specials unless I feel like wasting extra ham costs. And I seem to actually do more damage and can survive longer just by using the normal attack, no specials, no berserk1 and maybe just intimidate (which fails a lot and wastes ham).

First off let me say that the meditation line is far from useless depending where you go hunting. With THAT said, here is the path I have taken:

1) balance 1- knockdown is still usefull from time to time.

2) power 1 thru 4- speed and damage increases are a must to skill up at a reasonable rate (especially when grouping do to sharing exp based on damage done)

3) balance 2- the extra +15 toughness is VERY usefull

4) meditation 1 thru 4- It's nice to be able to meditate off bleeding, poison, and disease which you WILL end up getting when you melee on the tougher planets.

5) balance 3 to 4- finish up the tree, master tka is within sight!

6) precision 1 thru 4 as you progress- based on combat experience, so ya just kind of get this. VERY easy to get if you have some saved up from a previous weapon style.

Looks like Patina did the same as I did, but with Balance 2 two boxes later than I did.

Hmm, so KD is only going to stop someone for about 5 seconds, so that's only two attacks for free. I can get a similar deal with warcry, cheaper.

So, that leaves me with more damage/faster attacks.

Anyone know how much of an increase the first box gives?

Will I notice it?

I made it to tka before all this kd stuff happend (thank god) and I noticed that doing power tech tree and only that tree will make things a little easier for you. since we got like a +40 mod at novice use that exta power to your advantage and get more speed/power per hit. If you are pvp type Id recommend going for the KD's next. If not do meditae. It will allow you to not have to worry about dying or whatever since i believe at level 2 you begin to heal your own wounds, unless it was changed or I am remembering incorrectly. this way if you master meditative you possibly dont have to worry about dying AS much if you use force of will. More confidence will make you fight better i think. the combat tree is about worthless for dmg unless you make master or really close to such. I can say the mind hit is pretty powerful and useful in pvp. Since they made TKA incredibly hard to level as of late atleast you have some stuff to look forward to later.

As I am in a similar position to you give you a bit more on what I found

Power 1 gives you a +15 damage and +15 speed, so you will do more damage faster.

As I mentioned earlier I always use my speed sliced VK's, which have a damage rating max of 122 and speed of 1.8, I think with the +50 speed mod I have at power 1, I can hit normal about every 1.3 seconds, with the VK's this is about250 to 350 damage a time, with zero ham cost. If I watch combat window I usually hit them 3 or 4 times for every 1 time they hit me.

Admitidly if you use any specials with the VK's you will pay in ham costs, more thanfour at a timeand you will see your ham bars vanish. But as unarmed2 can do up to 900+ damage with VK's it can be worth it every now and then. I am finding though I can survive a lot longer and kill more in one go with just using the extra speed and damage of the VK's with the extra speed and damage mods you get from the power line.

I am going for balance2 as well after power 2 but for the defensive mods, but after that rest will be put into power line first, as it seems to be more benefit just to have more speed and power to your normal attack.

The knockdown is handy to use, but I have seen it resisted a lot (especially what cons white to me), or when they do go down I usually only see one or two hits in before they are back attacking again.

I think it is more of if you feel the defensive stats or the speed and damage boosts will matchyour playstyleas to which one you should get first. If going for master TKA you will get them all at one point.

My workaround for high ham costs on specials is use novice medic with stimpacks B, and muon gold spice (gives 10 mins of mind stats boosts, before downer hits). This allows me to survive longer and use specials (by using stims) and the boost from the muon gold allows your mind to regen enough to keep using the stimpacks for a lot longer. But that is my method, but allows me to take on multiple lesser bobcats at once and survive.

you may need to re-visit this

KD still works wonders for me

the timer is reset per new target so if you are in the middle of a mob make good use of the tab key....

my spread is as follows: 0/3/4/3

i recently aquired all of this by going to fort tuskan and i practically own raiders and commons now WITHOUT a pet tank...

KD -dizzy- then either unarmed combo2 or spin2 depending on whether its one on one or 3 against one

BTW - use dizzy WITH vibros on...i have a ~100 HAM cost with vibros but i deliver ave ~750 dam with them....

i have been able to take down capts with - KD (may or may not work) - dizzy (a must) - blind then zerk.....with zerk and vibros i hit for 500 each SECOND!!!!! and these arent the best vibros on my server...(2.2 spd)

my progression was KD (pre-nerf, i say this b/c had i known of the lunge dizzy combo earlier i would have skipped it and opted to finish power first) - power tree...now finishing balnace and the def mods are very noticable......

i would recommend getting a good composite helmet....9 times outta ten my incaps were due to mind hits and since getting the comp helmet this has reduced dramatically.....

hope this helps

How many tka's use beserk? I only have knock down as of now, but I have about 40K left for next box.. I heard beserk would be good if you don't want to use up your HAM, but I wasn't sure how effective it is compared to stun, bind, unarmed hit 1,etc.
