Thread: When will they change the stacking defenses?

I keep hearing Melee / Ranged Defense will not stack anymore between professions. Neither will defense vs. blind, dizzy, knockdown, etc. When will this happen?

you are mis hearing that. defenses like dodge/counterattack/block are being seperated (possibly) so you can stack fencer and pistoleer, for a 170 dodge. they may change it so that when you have a pistol you only get your pistol dodge bonus, and the same with fencer. Melee and ranged are a pooled defense. not reliant on what weapon you have equipped.

You're the second person that said that. I've been trying to find the Dev post this is coming from, do you have a link to it?

Thunderheart stated awhile back that this system was flawed and that people were abusing the game mechanics with ranged and melee def mods. If anything happens I expect it to be a cap put in place where you can go up to X amount in both but nvr so High as you are untouchable.

Oh and I would expect it to happen within the next 2 patches or whenever they decide to push the combat revamp live.

I can't find the thread now, but I do remember that (Thunderheart I think) stated that dodge stacking was not working as intended. However I did qualify the statement with a "possibly"

None of this is something to expect until a dev announces it...then mabye it will come into the game 3-6 months later

The devs stated that they want to abolish the idea of 'optimum templates' whereby people stack various skill mods such as dodge, melee defence, pistol accuracy ect.. and simply make the skill mods within a specific profession apply only to those weapons. This they hope means that someone can no longer decreate a massive 170 dodge bonus for example or stack together any other type of skill mod from multiple professions so that they are all active at once. I'm not sure how they're going to handle this for bounty hunters since they borrow almost exclusively from other professions, but it's possible that the BH/Pistoleer template will not be as popular due to the fact the pistol speed and accuracy bonuses from pistoleer won't stack with the BH ones.

Then you mean the +7 at master dancer or musician don't mean anything? Or the melee defense for master ranger...what a rip off. lol

It would be obviouslyignorant of the Dev's to seperate skills based on weapons, like not allowing Fencer to mix with Swordsman. Anyone with half a brain can understand that the skills used when fighting with a sword in one handare simular to the skill used when you add another hand to it.

If they seperate skill mixing into the 2 catagories of Ranged and Melee then I can see some reasoning behind it.

If they did not allow Melee mix with Melee and Ranged mix with Ranged then theywill havedestoyed theMaster Marksmen and Master Brawler profesions.

Let them cap it but to take it away is stealing from us and will loose players.

Again no one should be imposible to hit but thease templates are something we all can do if we want to be the best at PVP. That is what they designed their toon to do, and spent their time and points to do it. So yes they should win in PVP most of the time and if you dont want to die then make a pure PVP template your self very simple to grasp. I for one never want any part of a game that has a Chef or Dancer on the same level as a Pure combat template.

I can confirm stacking still works, having fought "Load" on Farstar he had fencer and something else as as a TKM I could barely hit him, kept dodging me

Unfortuantly you are wrong, for starters this is a gameplay decision not one based around realism... however saying that there is a basis for realism here as well which doesn't take too much of a stretch. Lets take a very basic example. Say your eatting a meal, someone gives you the choice between using chopsticks or a fork. Now almost all of us have traiing and experience in using a fork, we're very effective at tackling a variety of meals using one. Even when we don't have a knife we're able to use a fork to slice through certain things to make them easier to eat. However now imagine that you have never used chopsticks, as similar as they are to using a fork they are inherantly different so you'd actually have a far harder time eatting.

When you apply this to weapons it makes alot of sense when it comes to many things, you might be experienced in doging effectively with a one-handed weapon but if you haven't used a large two-handed sword before you're ability to dodge is hampered severely since you're not used to the weight and feel of the weapon. The same applies to things like pistol accuracy, the devs might only give the pistol accuracy and speed bonus to a BH when using the scatter pistol since that branch of BH does say it extends the skills of the bounterhunter when using a carefully balanced pistol (ie. the scatter). That makes sense as pistoleer skills would focus on general pistol 'tricks' rather than further refining skills as the BH does. In that situation it becomes like when you get acustomed to driving your car, you know how it handles in a very detailed way so when you have to park it in a tight spot you're able to do it so much more skillfully. Soon as you get into someone elses car and try to do the same thing its a little more difficult cause your not used to how the car handles. The same with the BH, the Scatter becomes the weapon they train with and they become very familar with how it handles. Soon as they would pick up an FWG5 they're not quite at home with it.

Very excellent points Tal-N. If you learn to defend against ranged opponents with a pistol (ranged d mods from pistoleer), then you have learned how to defend against them while using your pistol. When you learn to defend against ranged opponents with a two-handed sword, you now know how best to avoid fire while using that weapon.

How can you really incorporate how you defend yourself with a pistol into fighting with a sword? Are you going to shoot lasers out of your sword to force the person into cover, or to make them take less time aiming at you?

These are two different skills that are used in two different situations, how do their powers combine?
