Thread: To those who are totally melee. . .

I'm talking no ranged skills. How does this work for you. . .? Besides the obvious disadvantage against a ranged adversary, is there any real liabilities. The reason I'm asking is i'm considering the TKM/MasterPikeman route. I would like responses strictly from a PvE perspective.

PVE pretty much no problem at all, you just have to sometimes maybe lunge move on em but not often. Most often than not NPC's will switch to melee when you start attacking them with melee.

PVE is easy enough, with our toughness and high damage abilities we can pretty much take on almost anyone. PVP is a little different a good ranged PVPer will try to kite you for as long as possible because they know if you catch up to them they are most likely dead. But the problem is we all run the same speed, except for burst run, but they can do that too hehe. Ive always wondered why a ranged weapons expert is able to basically run and fire at the same time, especially riflemen, Ive always wanted to put in a suggestion that a ranged weapon user be 'slightly' very slightly slower while they are firing their weapon, if need be they can /peace and run the same speed as anyone, but it would solve kiting, yet still give them the ability to run and evade...

When I was pure melee, I was TKM/CH. It was hard. It was really hard to pull mobs in PvE. PvP actually wasn't that bad.

This is for my human character, btw. Thanks for the feedback so far. Would CH be classified as a melee profession?

Everything usually switches to melee when you use melee (in PvP) so it dosent matter

My template (my sig) works well in pvp/pve

I love pure melee, and see the only drawback is when chasing people down. I use burstrun food now for that though.

How does it work? You wont get hit vary much if you cap melee and ranged defence. It is over powered in that way imho.

Just to add, I tried msword, mtk, mbrawler and fencer 3440, and feel mtk, msword and mfencer are a better combo.

the lunge2 is a joke in pvp because your target will more than likely get hit with poss change from more than just you making the kd worthless. I like the 30 to equalibrium you get from mastering fencer and with mtk it will be at 85.

I haven't been down for more than 2 stand attempts with this spec even with a dizzy on. Vary stable on your feet with the 3.

i am all melee and i really have no problem with ranged opponants.

PVE--it is hard to pull single mobs. but i find with my template i am good to go except for the really high end stuff. npc will pull a melee weapon when you get in melee range. so...dead npcs

PvP--i actually don't fear range. most pvp battles do not take place in open fields. good kiters (rifleman) will take me down as i have no ranged mitigation. but most people are not good kiters. they always tend to turn and cut, which actually allows me to cut the range within lunge2 range. if they burst run away....i stop following them...and run the opposite direction. nine times out of ten they will follow. since they are bursting at the time they will close range faster than they expected. lunge2. close to melee range. bye bye.

pure melee is good. but you have to think a little bit to make sure you can handle your weaknesses. if you pick the right melee, you will have pretty close to capped ranged defense anyways. the only thing you are missing is ranged mitigation....
