...for the amount of Teras Kasi Artists in the galaxy, do you really think they do it because of a stupid holocron? Or because Teras Kasi Artists are just so incredibly powerful in PvP that no other crappy profession interests them?

Yes, I would agree with you here to some degree. However, and without getting into a very tired discussion, I'm sure both of uscan find plenty of first hand examples of a ranged fighter who knows what they are doing can have success against a TKM.

The fact that I like Martial Arts and Japanimation has never crossed my mind when I chose TKA ... it's all about the power! The true power of defeating anyone I want in under 5 seconds!

It's funny you say that, not to sound altruistic but it was for very similar reasons to the ones you just stated which was my reasoning for becoming a TKM, (liking martial arts, japanimation, etc.. etc..), the fact that we are lightning fast with spectacular dmg abilities is in some ways an expected bonus, our job is to be unmatched in toe-to-toe combat just like what a true martial artist is.

/quote

either they get TKM and stick with it because they are powerful, or dropped it really because they are hardcore Jedi fans

I'm willing to go with you on this one, they can't help whatever their holo says to them, be it TKM, Bounty Hunter, Commando or what have you. As wounded as my pride might be, I can't imagine it's any worse than that of the Bounty Hunter who takes absolute pride in his profession, or the commando who is the anchor for his guild, or the Doctor who spends weeks on end grinding away at resource collecting to ensure he/she has all the raw materialsthey need to make the best/most consistent buffs/stims around.

Thanks for the comments though, something to think about. =)

2/0/4/4 Bounty Hunter on Kauri ... this character sucks lesser bols, I quit PvP because he sucks in Melee... so I did this character:

TK Master, Master Doc on Ahazi ... in 1 week I died 3 times in PvP and killed over 30 players in PvP.

I chose TK Master because they were the ones always killing my Bounty Hunter... and now I'm experiencing the power! I will never delete or drop that profession until it gets nerfed.

So umm... if you meet a hologrinder TKM ... tell him/her I said hi because that probably represents a small majority of the people... either they get TKM and stick with it because they are powerful, or dropped it really because they are hardcore Jedi fans.

haha then theres the other group of TKM's called the FoTM (flavor of the month)players. They are almost as bad as the holo grinders...

most tkms aren't holo grinders

if you aren't tkm, you have meditate 2 or 4

almost all players have powerboost on my server

When I originally started playing the game at release I wanted to make a droid engineer and TKM (I'm a martial arts instructor, so the TKM fit nicely, heh). I hit Master DE which was quite, well, ho-hum, but he is one of my characters that continues on as a Master DE and Master WS (I can only hope that some day they WILL fix the DEs, heh).

As for the TK, I abhorred moving up the unarmed tree, and while I did it more than once (twice to be exact for smuggler, dropped it, then for commando) I decided, what the hey! I started my quest for TK today out of pure fun, and it's actually been fun! The grind to TK Student was rough, but getting knockdown 1 was a big thing. Nothing like walking up to a MOB, smacking 'em so he falls down, screaming at him, and then beating on him!! It definitely makes a wookiee feel like, well, a wookiee!!

Being a wookiee I feel like TK is much harder since I can't wear armor, and I kind of like it that way. Sure it would be nice to be able to go out with some composite and not worry so much, but that takes away from the fun. I'm definitely a True TK (hopefully TKM at some point) and I'm looking forward to becoming a full melee character

So before I begin, I became a TKM because that was my choice, it was what I wanted to do and a good decision it was. I did not become a tkm because some stupid glowing cube told me I should.

If you haven't guessed it already, it is difficult for me not to feel contempt when I'm up at say Ft. Tusken or something and I see some one in full +150k Composite armor sporting the badge of novice brawler or novice tka fighting unarmed. I must say that I worked my butt off to become TKM (as I'm sure everyone did for whatever their chosen profession is), it really sucked in the early going when it seemed I could only throw one punch per minute for nearly 0 dmgwhile even novice marksman were dealing out decent dmg. To see some one taking up my profession not because they have any real interest in it but because they were told to do so by some cube, feels like a slight to my/our profession. I swear you can almost see it in the faces of the hologrinders themselves, "I'm fighting unarmed because I have too, **edit** I'd love to haul out my flamethrower and toast this mob to oblivion".

Anyways, /rantoff. The only consolation I can think of is what a friend of mine told me which was, "well they chose to become a jedi/futurejedi just like you chose to be a TKM and this is simply how theygo about becoming one, what else can they do?."

That last quote from my friend is absolutely true and there's very little that I could say to refute it, however I'd be lying if I said that by saying that I feel any better.

/Discuss...

Hmmm... I wonder where I fall? I am not doing TK because fo a holocron, but I didn;t set out to become one either. I was originally just an artisan. But then I startedto need animal resources fo rmy goods. But I didn;t want to waste XP for each type of weapon and buying a new weapon all the time, so I just worked on unarmed. Next thing you know(about a month later), I was opening up TKM. Mine wasn;t really a dedicated choice or one forced on me...mine was more of a 'oh wow...look what i became' situation.

ROFL this is the PERFECT Flavor of the Month statement LOL

i am at quite the impass on this subject. it is a bit of an oxymoron for me. you see a LONG LONG time ago in a galaxy far far away, i made a promise on the SWG boards BEFORE they became what they are now. when they were public boards just discussing what the game might be and might become. back when people were waiting in line to be among the first beta testers...

that promise was i would do WHATEVER IT WOULD TAKE to become a Jedi. i did not care HOW hard, HOW long, HOW time consuming. i SWORE i would become a Jedi, and i am still working to make that promise come true.

that having been said. as of yet, none of my holos have told me to master TKA. i am doing it because i want it almost as much as i want a Jedi character. here is the kicker for me, by the time i open my Jedi slot i will be to many professions what the OTHER hologrinders are to TKA. a flavor of the month, a visitor, a tourist...a hologrinder

i have to agree with your friend on the assessment of the grind to Jedi. we (the soul-less, hologrinders) are going to do whatever it takes to open that Jedi slot because we have made a promise to ourselves (and some of us were dumb enough to make that promise to othersin writing on a public forum).

the road to TKM is a long and difficult one. 'long is the road, and hard, that from out of the dark leads to light'. i LOVE being a TKA and will not drop the profession no matter what OTHER professions the evil-blue-cubes tell me to master, however TKA is just ONE profession. to master TKA i have to master TKA. to open my Jedi slot i have to master the FOUR professions the glowing-dictators command, and then i have to start grinding ALL of the other professions until i stumble on the hidden 5th.

i am not trying to take anything away from TKA. again i LOVE the profession and will continue to master and STAY a master, it is just at in the way of a difficult to grind profession, Jedi takes the cake

I was a master pistoleer and I tried several other weap professions to complement my main joy of being a master ranger. I did the hologrind for a while and tried a bunch of professions, and then i decided to screw the grind and go have fun again. Coincidentally, I got a holocron that told me TKM when I was already a 4.2.2.4. TKA. lol

with that said, TKM has been fun...really fun. I went in and thought about dabbling in it, just to see if i liked it, however, the more i got into it, the more fun it became.

I would be interested in seeing if TKArtists have any credo or beliefs in the SW universe. But for me, right now, I see myself as a ranger first, and TKM second.

Whats with all this "the road to TKM is long and hard..." bull**edit**? No actually its prolly in the top 5 easiest professions to master. I did it about 4 months ago in 2 weeks of casual playing. Now i did the meditation tree in 2 days of grinding and i didnt have any of the extra +accuracy, +speed, or +damage. Its a proven fact that TKA does the 3rd most DPS (damage per second) of any combat class. Only trailing Commando and Rifleman right now. So yeah no one likes holo grinders but no one likes hologrinding either, so dont put it on them. Its SOE's fault for making a gay ass way to get fss. TKA isnt the bandwagon like it was a month ago, its now shifted to Rifleman along with a melee (which is usually TKA cause they get more ranged defenses than other melee). On the Rifleman note, i have never been one for nerfing or thought there was a "over powered" class in the game. TKA is working, Fencer is working, Commando is working cept the HAR, so yes people go to these profession, BUT Rifleman ARE overpowered and needs the nerf bat to swing its way. From my discussions with members at SOE rifleman are supposed to have negitive melee defenses (duh) instead of the +50 they get now (which is why they are unhittable). When mixed with a melee like TKA they get +100 something ranged / melee defense and hit for a ton with a stun weapon which is almost un blockable. Sorry to rant here and hi-jack but NERF them.

I took TKM because I had just mastered Pistoleer and I was/am a Master Commando. I am not hologrinding, but I got TKM done in under 4 days.

I didn't set out to become a Master TK and stay with it, but I am thinking about dropping commando completely (because I hate flame dabblers, I won't do that to the Commando proffession) and finding something to compliment TK out of combat, like Musician or Doctor.

Well, I have to admit, I took Teras Kasi because a holocron told me to.

/bad self

However, I had een playing with the idea of it for a while, I just needed encouragement to drop the other random things I had picked up... pistol, swords, dancing. I was a master creatre handler back then, so grinding was very easy for me. After I got mastr TK, I refrained from opening another holocron for a long time because I loved it so much. My next one said architect. So I decided not to do it.

Eventually I got bored and needed to do another profession to keep me entertained, and ended up not being able to bare dropping Teras Kasi and surrendering my creature handling instead. I love being able to take almost anything on at close range, and I'm formidable in PVP, even before I picked up my other professions. Now I tend to use pistol at a longer range, switching to my VKs when they get close.
