Thread: Do melee folks have a viable response to root?

I'm a Master TK/Master Fencer/Master Swords - and 9 times out of 10, I will fall to a ranged...
I know I can shorten the amount of time I'm rooted by switching to a ranged weapon and doing the basic ranged attack, but too much damage is done (to me), and too much time is wasted, and I'm not able to do my real damage-giving melee attacks...
Has anyone found a method to effectively combat concussion shot?

Concussion is not an issue anymore since it breaks on damage. Stopping shot is the only ranged true root right now. Basically all you can do is really heal til it breaks if you are out in the open.

Keep CoB up, get some healing in your template and just wait it out, roots wont re-apply straight away, mezzes are no biggy cos they wont be able to shoot you anyway. Triple mastery is over-rated IMO, without healing in your template you will lose.

Yeah, funny story about that.. I was going to use my token respec to get Doc 4xxx - but the respec didn't take effect... Yay!

I can beat ranged in duels when we are in the building, in the open area with nothing to hide behind its almost guaranteed that you will lose. Your best bet is to break the LOS of the attacker and force him to come close to you.

We USED to be able to kd them as they ran away using lunge to buy us a few seconds of the root timer without taking damage but the devs descided to remove teh kd ability from lunge with no explanation. At the same time they removed the kd from jedis advanced saber throw but that soon got re-instated thanks to the sheer number of jedi currently populating swg.

Not true necessarily. If you pay attention in friendly duels against ranged profs, they don't burstrun to keep you kited. they snare you. keep parwan on your toolbar. and wait it out, until right after your root wears off. then parwan it up. even with a KD. you can get back up and be in their face before they can root you again. KD/AB/ and thats about the end of the fight.

i took on 2 ranged in the middle of dantooine and beat them both

I usually pull out an ALR and start shooting back... but since I have no mods, it doesn't work too well.

well do you have any medic or doc in your template? if so, it should be rather easy for you to keep yourself healed.
if no medic or doc, and all you have is stims, buy some synsteak. use it when at the beginning of the root and you'll easily outlast it with just stims. thing is, your gonna have to kill em quick. you can only use like 3 synsteaks max i believe. so, either outlast the root and kill them, or run inside if you cant.
