You cant have novice CH with "Scout 4,0,0,0". It requires Scout 4,0,4,0.

You're right!

My bad scout is 4040...which leaves me exactly 0 skill pts left

That looks like one of the best pvm set ups. Human would be the best race for it.

Just popped in here because I'm changing my skills toward Master Doctor/ Master TKA.

You will get no advantage in taking just novice CH, those skill points will be wasted. Novice CH and Non CH control the same level of pets, the only advantage you get with novice the ability to tame and 2 more storage slots. You'd be better off buying your pet and investing in more combat or doctor.

tka/ch is verystupid (yet i see so many people doing it), a tka is a better tank than ANY pet amaster chcan use (not an exaggeration), the whole point of tka is getting in there and tanking for yourself

you'd be much better off mastering an elite ranged profession to go with tkm (like rifleman or carbineer), and then you can still getterrain negotiationor master brawler or something else cool

That's half right. The only bonus you get is +2 stored pets and 3 taming skills (not enough to change a pet's name). A Wookie, however, can use a Greater Slugde Panther and a Grand Wrix. GSP is a good pet to have with it's 60% kin resist and 8000 HAM, despite no armor. It's worth novice for that.

However, if the Devs decide to nerf CH again, the novice lvlcould be 10 which won't give you anything decent. I like the idea since it forces people to chose CH as a profession and not to dabble (too many pets all over the place). We'll probably see CH as more of a PvM than a support for Master PvE Combatants (which I like).

I hope theseresults will come from thepatch

  1. Allow Brawlers to tank more/do more damage.

  2. Better droids/more droids

  3. Less pets and less CH dabbling

As for Doctor, it's a useful skill to have, but honestly you can get by with just novice medic and some great stim Bs. I dropped medic all together and did fine as a BH. Now I'm 1-1-0-2 med. and that's enough to keep me alive.

I thought novice CH added 15 levels to the level pool, enabling me to use a level 30 or less pet. I must have misunderstood this.

I posted this earlier in another thread about TKM and sub-classes. I hope no one minds me posting it in this thread too, since its relevant.

Originally I planed to be TKM w/ solid CH abilities and good Ranger abilities. I loved the Ranger camps, but didn't do much else w/ the class. Everyone is a CH so I got bored w/ that.

Next I worked on doing TKM w/ Doctor 4/0/4/4, but I'm not sold on that yet. Buffs and super healing sounds nice, but I'm starting to see a lot of TKM / Docs around now too. Well maybe not a lot, but its become a common option w/ TKMs.I know this may sound crazy, but what does everyone thing about this option for TKM.

Brawler (4/0/0/0) - Minimum for TKA

Marksman (0/4/0/0) - Minimum for Smuggler/Pistoleer

Medic (0/0/4/0) - Pay for good STIM-Cs

Scout (4/0/4/1) - Good terrain navigation, harvesting to give your medic friends, basic camp (you never know when one may help)

Pistoleer (4/0/4/0) - These twobranchesgive you the best defenses

Smuggler (0/0/4/0) - DF is a sweet line to get

Teras Kasi (4/4/4/4) + Master

I'm thinking this is too thin (spread out), but it may offer an interesting option. You get great defenses from the TK, Pistoleer, and Smuggler line. You have some solid ranged attacks (namely Low Blow and others from DF), you can heal w/ Stim-C (although you'll have to buy them or even better trade for a crate or two w/ the meats you harvest using the Scout skills) ---- and finally you have your major fighting abilities provided by the TK trees of course.

Any comments? I'm sure there are lots of holes in this char breakdown that could be exploited, so please let me know what you think

"tka/ch is verystupid (yet i see so many people doing it), a tka is a better tank than ANY pet amaster chcan use (not an exaggeration), "

This is totally wrong. I am a TK/CH and it's not stupid it's fun. Who cares how powerful the template is? If you enjoy it that is the ONLY thing in the world that matters.

Also, I would love to see a master TK effectively tank a Krayt or an ATST better than a Graul Mauler. My Graul Mauler, against a mob I have intimidated and stunned, can tank better than any TKM I assure you.

I have to strongly disagree with this statement. I am a 4-4-3-3 CH and working for master....I would have never gotten here as fast as I did without it.

I can garauntee that a TKA cannot tank better than a Merek, TMB, Gaping spider hunter or any thing else in those lines.....that is a quick and unthought out statement. How can you as a TKA tank better than a creature with armor and upwards of 40-50% kenetic...you cant. It takes a MOB way longer to even try to Incap even a GSP than it does for me.

Plus the creature is taking all the damage that I normally would be taking....that statement is so far outta sight youd need the Hubble Telescope just to see any truth in it.

has anyone tried 'center of balance' or whatever it's called on tc? that might change everyone's perceptions about pet tanks vs pc tanks.

If you're looking for advice...mine is to stop asking others for theirs and do what you want to try. (I'm not flaming) Taken to heart and honestly applied, this will keep you interested for a lot longer.

Think about it...what's your purpose in asking us this? That you might "do it right the first time" instead of experimenting and making "mistakes" and "wasting time". Not possible, this game was made for people to experiment and change their minds without penalty.

I, for example, started as an artisan...yes. I was the first Droid Engineer on Radiant. I was SO pimp walking around with the first mouse droid the galaxy ever saw on week one. I was the 2nd master artisan ever and and than...I changed my mind. I didn't enjoy it like I thought I would (poor DE's). I then moved to brawler because I have personal experience with Martial Arts and I wanted to try it...I fell in love and have been a Teras Kasi Master for some time now. I also mastered CH for a while back when they first "nerfed" it and it was respectable for a time...now it's ridiculous again because 80's of the galaxy will never see the front line. they'll "send the pets in". I moved to doctor because I did slightly enjoy crafting and I wanted to be able to take care of myself medically and those around me. I loved it and don't get me started on the buffs. I didn't even know about them when I started Doc.

Sorry, that was longer than I anticipated.

The Point Is: Play what you think of your character as in your mind. That's how you'll truly enjoy this game. Don't let all of these number-player leet doods make you feel inferior or weak just because you cannot do some of the fantastical things they can. This is roleplaying and you'll be the one that actually fulfills it's purpose, not them. Enjoy yourself.

Disclaimer: When I said all these leet doods, I was NOT talking about the previous posters, I was making a general reference to the type of players that measure their self-worth by what they can accomplish in-game.
