Thread: CH+TKA
I play a mon-calamari who is almost about to Master CH, but i had no clue what to do for my 2nd proffesion, then i saw TKA, and thought, why not. Now i know this is a bad race for any melee, but is it so bad that its not gonna work? Also, are these 2 classes a good combo? If not can anybody suggest a good secondary class? Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks
In all reality, any race can do anything fine...
As for TKA + CH... I don't know if I can reccomend it. It works... but melee aggro is funny in combination with the goofy pet AI. A lot of times (especially when fighting multiples) the pet will back off to max melee range and just let you tank them, while hitting every 4 seconds (or more) instead of 2. So essentially they become useless. Like I said, it works... and you can be pretty successful with it... but its not ideal.
I'd reccomend ranged if you want to do well with CH. If you don't mind a good bit of grinding before you get good, rifleman makes a great complement to CH. Pistoleer is very common. Flame IV commando lets you kill just about anything in the game, but sucks up points. BH takes way too many points... just stick with the other ranged classes.
Ultimately when using pets, especially on hard-hitting things, ranged is the way to go.
However, like I said, you can be just as successful with TKA as you can with other combat professions... the road is just a little bumpier.
Im a 3-2-0-3 CH and a 2-1-2-3 TKA and It wokr great for NPCs. I dont recomend it for mobstho.
I send my pet (Graul Mauler) against the base (or lair). This way the pet gains agro from all of the NPCs, while I dizzy/KD them.
I'm a master CH and 2/4/4/4 TK, should be master by tonight. CH is good for fighting a group of things... send your pet in, let them take most fo the aggro. Don't run in until you can see they're attacking the pet. If they come after you, tell the pet to attack them quickly.. thinga will stay on the pet.
Honestly though, in my training I've been getting buffs and running around Endor wiping out most things I run across, I haven't needed my pet. I think the hardest so far was two TMBs and a Delrious merek avenger at once.
I think (the way the game stands now) that a Mon Cal would be the best TK species because of the good mind stats. Nothing else matters much if you have low-level medic trained. Mind is what kills MTKs. The benefit of powerboost is directly based on mind, too, so once you hit master TK, you'll find other low stats are somewhat evened out.
Don't expect your pets to tank for you--the TK is the tank. Pets are good for crowd control and allow you to back off and heal if necessary. It's a fun combo, but remember that your pets aren't much a weapon. They'll help you quite a bit though!
With new AI changes, supposedly mobs will attack the CH more, so having the tankworthiness of a TKA will make for a better CH--if they actually DO fix AI, of which I'm skeptical.
The "cowardice" issue of maulers/rancors and other types of pets (grondas and other "large" pets) is a hitbox issue. Pets and mobs jockey for the best position. Maulers and rancors have long arms, as you notice... so their prime slapping location is farther away from a mob than a cat's will be. Its especially bad when fighting another large mob (What I'm seeing it happen the most with is my mauler and pikets)... they really like to be at their prime range for slapping each other. So they move around to get it.
Essentially what happens is that when you're fighting at your range (3-5m), the mauler or rancor or whatever is trying to get to his prime spot, which is like... 10m. The mauler backs off... the piket stays in the one spot, but suddenly you're closer. So it starts hitting you.
Anyway, its just a crappy little thing that happens.
also, keep in mind there will be a major redesign of the CH system as well as pet stats so it may be entirely awful (or wonderful) after the next big patch.
IMHO The combo competes with itself and doesn't enhance one or the other. Just does more of the same.. tank.
At MCH you can have 3 gsp's out.... what more ping ponging do you need than that?
If both of us charged into a group of 5 rancors each. I'd kill mine first.
