Thread: My take on the new Razor Knuckler

Thanks......for nothing.

We are looking down the barrel at finally getting a bone thrown in our direction.....its really too bad that its a solid gold, diamond inlaid bone, that most of us aren't going to be able to afford. The rarity of NS vibro motors is going to drive this weapons price up nearly equal to, or even more than Krayt weapons. Normal, casual players like myself are screwed on this one. I don't have millions to spend on weapons and armor. I'll never own one of these......thanks for thinking about me though.

Damage....ooh heat!!

This my friends is a stealth nerf if I ever saw one. Ask a commando what its like to have your best weapon limited by the fact that nearly anything worth killing, is resistant to it. What kind of sense does heat damage make? Oh, the blade is heated, causing minor heat damage? Just as easy to give us stun/electrical damage. "On contact, the blade releases a small electrical shock, doing both electrical, and stun damage"

With the speed of a typical punch, the blade isn't there long enough to cause any real heat damage. Whereas the electrical damage is more "realistic" as it is nearly instant. Ask anyone whose ever been hit by a taser. It don't take long to knock your butt out.

In summary, this thing is going to be so rare that its not funny, so expensive that even Bill Gates would think twice, and just as worthless as a solid diamond pile of bantha poodoo. Sure it looks nice, sounds nice, and even might be nice. But as a first step in bringing tactics to the TKA game, its absolutely horrible.....there are so many other ways this could have been done.

How can it be a nerf if it's new? Granted, maybe stun damage would be more appropriate, given the rarity of this item that most people are expecting, but it's still a *new* damage type. Despite many crits having high heat resists, another damage type is welcome in my books. At least we'll be able to do some damage to those 100% kinetic mobs now.

And why do all players in the game have to have this? If your a casual player, than surely you can get by without heat damage...you must have to this point.

Im also fine with it being heat damage for game balance sake issues...I would not want them having to revamp more creatures just becausewe had to have restraint because it 'sounds' more realistic... (Pictures of TKMs taking down AT-ATs comes to mind)

Yeah, if you can find the million or so credits lying around to buy one of these "new weapons".

Look at my reasoning on this being a stealth nerf...

Oooh we get a new weapon...unfortunately just as many creatures are 100% heat resistant as are kinetic. Ask any commando how he feels about his flamer, he'll tell you the same.....Too many creatures are resistant to it.

Sure its nice we get a new weapon....something really cool looking too. Too bad its going to be really expensive, and VERY hard to get your hands on. Sux that its going to be heat as well. I really hope they change this thing before it hits live......

Lower the damage, and make it electricity....or floor the damage, and make it stun. These types make ALOT more sense than heat.

As far as everyone getting this? I could care less....if I can get it yay..if not, I do fine with my bare hands and in worse cases, with a VK. I just think they need to look at this again.

Restraint damage? Not with a weapon, How do you restrain someone while punching them with a bladed pair of brass knuckles?

I agree with you that this will be rare and expensive. I believe, however, that most players will have more difficulty finding one than being able to afford one.

As for it being a stealth nerf, I'm still not convinced that it is. For it to be a nerf, an existing gameplay function or feature would need to be modified in a negative way. We never used to do heat damage. We now have that option. Sure, many mobs are heat-resistant, but having 2 damage types disposable to you is better than 1. Some mobs have lower heat resistance than kinetic.

I know, I'm such a troll, I'm very bored, and I feel somewhat strongly about this.

I'm not complaining that we're getting the new damage type. I'm complaining at the Dev's choice of damage types. Heat makes VERY little sense. Stun, sure. Electricity I could see too. But heat?

Think about it like this.....

If I punch you with an Iron (for clothing) in my hand......Sure it's hot, but you'd be knocked silly from the STUN damage, moreso than the heat of the iron. The heat isn't there long enough to cause any "real" damage. Electricity makes sense as well. Stick your finger in a light socket once and you'll know that the damage or pain in nearly instantaneous. Hook a car battery up to it, and hit someone with it....I promise, you'll feel the shock, even from a hit that fast. Heat transfer is relatively slow, sure you'll get a burn, but you won't feel it as much as the pain of the impact.

Honestly I'm not asking to be made more powerful. I don't really want stun damage, even though if I kick you in the head....it stuns you. I'm glad we're getting the extra damage type....if we can afford it.....so that we can be more useful for some of those "high end" mobs.

I'm not saying give us stun or nothing, I'm not saying don't give us heat. I'm stating my opinion that there are other damage types that would have been more "realistic" than heat. Before you flame me and say that this is a "game" and its not "real"........I know that already. I'm not a total idiot......I'm just stating an opinion based on some real physics. Thanks for taking the time to read and discuss this though......really.

I understand where Heat is not the best choice, but I honestly do more damage with my Heat and Acid Weapons (and Kinetic of course) than ANY other damage type. There are a few exceptions, but they are pretty rare...

I agree that a different damage type would make more sense. But hey, this is SOE we're talking about

Let me also state that my experiences are mostly PvE, and that I know does make a difference

You're using the term incorrectly. A "nerf" is something that exists that was de-powered (from UO, when the developers unilaterally cut the power of weapons across the board - which lead the player base to joke they had been given Nerf (as in the foam kind)weapons).

You are very much correct that if things stay as they are, these will be very rare and not worth the effort for the vast majority of people. It may be worthless content, but it's not a nerf - silent or otherwise.

Oh how very true that statement is.

Someone said in another thread that I read..

"if I wanted magical weapons, I'd go play EQ"

And here we have it....the "Flaming knuckler of doom" or some such. Oh well, maybe they'll see this, and realize that we like the idea, it just needs some "tweaking".

Unfortunately the ability to find these is going to be a whole skill tree.....affording them is another story all together.

Thank you for the new damage type.......honestly it really was needed. I'm a firm believer in balance...and since our profession is mostly working, I feel that a little balance is in order......we need damage types too. Even if you go with the "physics" of martial arts and "knuckler" style weapons.

Damage types we could do "realisticly" (spelling)

Kinetic

Stun (think solid object collision with head)

Electricity (think taser)

Restraint (think Judo/wrestling)

Bleeds (Broken nose, cuts from these "bladed" knucklers)

Heat (to a lesser extent as described in previous posts)

Acid is a no no......I don't want any acid anywhere near my money makers (fists/feet). Before you leave the marksman tree, you can do all of these and then some....yet here we are "elite" and only have one, well, now two. Balance that.

Ok, now to adress those "nerf herders". TKM is not uber.......if you have a gun. I can shoot you from 64 meters away....you can't punch me. You can lay down, and get a few free shots in too. You get damage types we can't touch (yet), and other status attacks that we don't. While it may look like we do massive amounts of damage, and kill anything we touch....we also take massive amounts of damage, and destroy our armor and weapons ALOT faster than you do. As a master Commando, I could kill almost anything in the game, and that was good. As a master rifleman, I could do it without taking damage (conceal shot). As a TKM I can kill almost anything in the game, as long as its not immune to my 1 type of damage, but I get my butt handed to me in equipment costs.

We don't need nerfed....you need fixed. We need additions to balance us out, you need additions to bring your "elite" class online with others. There are pro's and con's to all professions, you just have to look at them.

stealth nerf ??? just dont equip the weap then if you think it is, imo its nice with some variation, and brings a bit content that you cant just stroll down to the nearest weapsmith and buy it for 10k, first your saying its a **edit**ty weap, and then you say that its wrong cus you cant afford it... not everything gets thrown into our faces wich imo is a good thing, work for it, dont whine about not having everything served on a plate for you
