Ok, I'm new to the forums but not to the game....

I have one question LoBai (maybe you can answer)... As my signature states I'm mainly working in Master Teras Kasi, Master Scout and Master Creature Handler... well I really love being a TKA, but how can I fight if doing my special moves takes away from me so much.... I mean I have been forced to get some pistol skills (as it was said looking for balance), and even the high level pistol special moves don't take so much from me as the low level TK ones.

I know that my problem is a little off-topic but I need help.

Now going back in-topic: I think that TK has many downsides but as any other elite profession I agree that if it's played smart can be interesting. SWG is not about personal vendettas but acomplishments, and some of the required ingame acomplishments can only be achieved through practice, experience and even team play, so what if you can't solo in PVP ot take down huge red swarms, you can't expect to get everything out of the game in a month.

I agree that the devs are making things more difficult, in a way we are not playing a game but still beta testing, or worst they are beta testing and we are just being forced to adapt to the changes result of theyr testing, but out of all of this negative stuff everybody is crying about, tons of people is having fun, and have fun is an esential part of anygame.

Now, how's that for my oppinion?

LoBai, I agree that the damage improvement has helped us in PvP. There is no question of that. However, I don't see this improvement as an 'even trade' for the loss of an efficient way to to catch 'kiting' enemies.

You see, even though your post/opinion has a lot of valid points, all I can think about are six little words ...

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

That target is out of range.

It's one thing to deceptively ambush a bunch of enemies in PvP (a nice tactic!), but it's something else entirely to face off against an opponent and still have the same measure of PvP combat efficiency.

TKA were never meant to excel at pvp no matter what people or the game book says. You cant go into a battlefield expecting you will come out alive. Any master ranged fighter classshould own any melee fighter class except jedis. If they dont its because they dont know how to and its not becuase you are a bad ass TKM. We are meant to be bad ass for pve and close quarter combat, period. Now of course you can go into battle and kill a few before getting killed and probably even survive...I have, but those were lousy ranged fighters who couldnt kill a bug. If you really want to have a chance in pvp you should consider choosing ranged skills as well to complement your fighting skills, but if you guys think that just because you are a master tera kasi that you should be owning in PVP, you are fooling yourselves. Stop whinning about getting kited and how we need to close the gap between enemies with this skill or the other. If the devs change it so that we could, then no ranged class would have a chance against us and that would really unbalanced the pvp aspects of the game. As a TKA you should use your skills wisely and see which fights you can win and which fights you cant. Fights you can win are those you can take an enemy with surprise....kill and run. Not stay and try to kill everybody because you are no Jedi. Yes Im a tera kasi artist and with all the nerfs going on right now I still keep playing as a tera kasi, yes I dont like some of the changes...but why whine about it? I whine, kick and spit about bugs but not to changes that dev make in order to please the always unsatisfied costumers even if the changes are plain stupid or great...Play the game, try to have fun and if you dont have fun, quit the game for good or come back when you think they have fixed

I hate to flame or sound mean, but what you've posted is hardly the truth. It's an opinion. You're opinion based on your experiences and trials. I've had different and apparently better experiences, does that mean that I'm better than you and you should shut your mouth? No. You are a person entitled to your own opinion, so I'll write this to perhaps give you some hope. We CAN really stomp that booty in PvP man. Especially with the last patch, PvE got harder, but PvP became cake if you do it right. Who cares if your KD wears off after 5 seconds and it's another 30 before you can use it on THAT person again, once their down and you put a 2 Unarmedhits on them, they're _done_. If they're not, you're either not wearing a good knuckler, or not one at all, or you're not doing something right, butI can regularly top 1k damage in PvP on a prone or KD'd enemy. That's enough to kill most anyone after the damage (increased after patch) that KD causes too. For instance:

Just last night (9/4/03), a fellow TKM and myself were testing our new techniques for PvP in theed with some Imperials. There were two of us...just two. Before we decided to go to bed that night, within the span of maybe 45 minutes, he's wracked up 6 or so solo kills against exlcusively ranged opponents, with 2 deaths of his own...3/1 ratio isn't bad. I, myself, had a ratio of 5/1. That's right, I killed 10 solo including Ch and Faction pets, and not troopers, I mean Dark troopers and some nasty tough ST's. I don't care how tough you are, when you're KD'd and I pull off a 5k hit on you, you are HURT, not to meantion the 35% wounds I do...

This isn't bragging, because Im not special. What I do is something that not only anyone can do, but I'm sure others are better than I am here. After the first death when I had a revenge TEF, I walked up all casual-like to 3 well-armored PC's with their 2 pets and got close enough and prepared myself...said hello...and _boom_.

15 seconds later, 3 PC's were all dead where they stood and I was working on the 2nd pet. I got 3 wow!'s from standers-by and a tell from one of the PC's that simply stated: "Who are you?!"

Listen, you can assign hotkeys, make macros, put your most used attack close at hand and then practice on NPC's or in PvP until they're instinct...but you CAN not only be competitive, you can conquor them. You can do SICK damage as you should. They're in your death range...5m is as good as dead...live upto your title and play like a Teras Kasi, play smart.

LoBai thats exactly my point, people whine about pvp and yes ok they are entitled to whine and what not but....as you pointed out you played smart pvp killing not one but 3...thats what Im saying...you just cant run into an open battleground and expect to succeed in pvp with just your tera kasi artists skills.

To gguevara:

Personally, I have my knucklers on hotkey F2, UH3 on F3, Lunge on F4 and other usefuls at fingertip close.

Typical fight key sequence is this: I walk around w/out knucklers on (looks silly, I try to RP, and secrecy is a deadly weapon) so I first KD, the _very moment_ I see their state change to KD, I hit knuckler hotkey and hit UH3 twice or three, depending on how damaging the first was. That's usually enough to kill anyone right there. If the kd fails first time, do it again until it works, than continue to the UH's.

This takes much less HAMs than w/knucklers on and a VERY important part is after about every 3 or 4 specials I use, I hit F11(stims) to knock my H and A back up.

Soon as an enemy is getting close, or he's freshly down and you're into your second or third UH and you _know_ they aren't gonna survive your onslaught, you already have your camera spun around to target the next red and soon as the downed person is incapped, you rinse and repeat.

This is Simply _my_ solution and obviously, not gonna work for everyone, but it's one solution. Hope it helped.

To Metherian:

Thank you seeing some light and intelligence in my post and admiting to anything that makes sense to you. SO many people are unwilling to admit even the slightest give in a conversation. I am perhaps _dead_ wrong on some things, and even when I'm write or youor anyone else is right, we're only right in _our_ situation. Eveyrone is different and it takes that 5% of the population that's mature enough to bread down the walls of pride and let knowledge find them that accels in life.

Enough philosphy. I handle those six words with 3 Grand Wrixes...that's my solution. No one can outrun them, and their ferocity is high enough that they will fight past my death and even to theirs if necessary (which rarely is). Again, that's just the way I do it. I'm not downing those that want to use pistols or any other ranged as a secondary or even primary class, but it's just not for me.

Also, just to bring this up...what other class can get incapped in battle and have a 40% chance or so of getting right back up again and healing and fighting again. (Albeit, since all of your hams are fully depleted, it takes a good bit of meditation to get back to fighting condition, but at least you have a chance, and that's more than any other class gets). Force of Will baby.

The subject line should read: "My extremely personal, subjective and hardly absolute take on "the truth.""

But rather than be negative, I'll say this. I partially agree - I agree that *pure* melee classes that choose not to invest skills into other lines that would help them more against ranged attackers are going to be at a real disadvantage in pvp, and I do not at all consider that wrong. I also agree with the line that "you just cant run into an open battleground and expect to succeed in pvp with just your tera kasi artists skills." I agree with that completely.

But here's the things that I think really disappoints many people including myself: I have no problem that we should be at a disadvantage at range. However, there is no reason - none - why we shouldn't have some effective ability to more easily have a change to pull a character into range. And more importantly, while at range we should be vulnerable, in melee range a fight between a ranged user and a melee person should be no contest - ever. Period.

I think many of us would feel a lot better if we were a little weak from range, but brutaly leathal up close. If I managed to get a person in range, that person should be in serious, serious trouble, including having the trouble of getting back out of range again. Which means I need some chance/ability to control the mob/player opponent, but right now I do not. Right now its my chance to win at range is 5% vs. a ranged users change to win which is 95% - and that's ok. But right now my chance to win in melee range is AT BEST 50% and that is absolutely wrong, for a melee class.

Melees should make people post on other boards about strategies for PvP and write "its important that you look for signs of what class your opponent may be, if he/she is a melee class it is critical that you stay out of melee range if at all possible or be prepared for a brutal fight." No one - NO ONE - is staying that now.

That's the issue, and any attmept to circumvent that or downplay it is just silly.

My only problem is mind damage. Spammed Eye Shot is pretty mean. But then again, unarmedheadhit1 is pretty mean as well... just have to get within 5m and hope they stay there... lol.

It's all in how you look at the game. I tend to have fun even when I'm having my eyes shot out, but thats just me.

Cheers.

I should probably note, in light of my other posts, that I agree that ranged players should have an advantage on us...range.My concern is when they no longer have range on me...when I've beat the odds and closed the gap and I'm running right next to them, and I can't HIT. That is where my issue lies and that's what I think needs to be addressed. I don't think I'm asking too much here...just let me hit the things that are next to me, it's not like this is some strange and outlandish request. That or give me a special attack called "Break Legs"
