Lately I have had a lot of people approach me asking me to join their PA. I hadn't really thought about it, but what are the benefits and drawbacks for a tailor in joining one? I can see the benefit of having other people around to feed me resources and if the people in the PA are nice, it might be fun. On the other hand, I might find myself spending all of my time making free clothes for everyone in the PA and not much time to do the things I like to do. I really don't know much about them or how they work. Can anyone tell me?

For me it has been very good. Knowing I'm busy, guild members will always search my vendor before they request an item from me. I also don't charge guild members for anything other than Master Tailor Items. But they always tip me (dispite my refusal) more than I would have actually charged them, and they won't take it back.

We have a lot of other vendors in our PA Hall as well and I've made a ton of business just from people stopping in. So I would say it's totally worth it, especially if you'll be the only tailor in the guild.

Don't join a PA for business reasons. Join a PA because you like the people and would like to hang around more with them and become better friends with them. To my mind, at least, that's about the only reason for doing so. :-)

I decided to become a tailor because of joining a PA. Our PA is very organized and we have a uniform. Actually we have5 different uniforms. One for the officers, one for soldiers, and one for crafters as well as soldier and crafter Wookie uniforms. It has been rewarding to create those uniforms and see peoples reactions in town when 20 people in uniform show up. I have even been asked by another PA to design a uniform for them. Although I am giving away the uniforms for free, the PA members are always bringing me hides and other resources I need. this is all dependent on a good group though. We have an EXCELLENT group of people that make it very fun.

Join a PA because you like the folks in it and have fun with them, but also be aware that it's good for your business. I offer a 30% discount to all my PA members (we're an entertainer PA), and it's very profitable for me, and good for my PA friends (they buy a lot of clothes as entertainers and a third off adds up). They also refer other folks outside of the PA to me, so it's very good for networking. After playing EQ for several years and having to put up with guild BS, I was leary of joining a PA in SWG. But I haven't regretted my decision once since I joined BABE.

I joined a PA cause I liked the people in it. It has also been rewarding clothing all 150+ of them. With 11 different uniforms, it keeps me on my toes. Issuing uniform to new recruits is great fun as well.

I look at it this way. I don't really trust any PA that attempts to recruit me without getting to know me first, because if they don't care what I'm like, how much did they care about anyone else they recruited?

I spent a long time as an officer in a large raid-level EQ guild, and the experience was incredibly draining. It's made me very wary of getting involved in a PA again, and it took much convincing for my friends to finally convince me to join theirs. In the end it works for me because I'm not the PA Tailor, I'm a PA member who also happens to be a tailor. We willingly contribute resources or finished materials to each other free or at a discount, but we aren't required to do so. I'd rather not worry about everything being equitable on all sides, ie am I getting enough resources in return to compensate for finished items handed out.

Again, that's just me, but I'm lookingto my PA for friendship, not a business deal. There's enough of crafting professions that feel more like a job than a game without adding another layer to it.

Goodreply Kazey. Totally agree. Like a few have said join a PA for the people. Ive started up 3 squads from a game that I come from called Delta Force 2. All are still around after4 yrs now. I have always believed in both sides getting to know each other first. No sense later finding out the person that joined or the guild members just dont have similiar personalities or sense of humor.Both parties lose then.HT PA resides on Wanderhome. We are an invite only group and are structured that everyone is in charge...It works because we are a bunch of old farts with guns...LOL

To add one more thing, if you are considering joining a guild ask what the plans are forsize. Some folksprefer smaller tight nit groups while other guilds do a mirror test before you canjoin (mirror test is if you can fog up the mirror your in..lol). Me personally, I would never join a guild larger then 35-40. You can never get to know anyone or meet folks...just my personal preference.

it depends a lot on what your other professions are too as well.

I've gone on and on about this I know but heres the just of it.

If you are not a master tailor being in a PA can be beneficial to you given that people in the PA are willing to provide you with lots of resources in exchange for reduced price or free clothes.

If you are a Master and you get invited to a PA by some random person theres a good chance they just want free clothes.

Don't join a PA unless you are friends with many people in it (I still won't) or you enjoy slave labor.

Hehe I started my PA I began using the hall as a showplace for my clothing, but then as I got more friends and a whole lot more people coming to my shop I decided to start the PA so my friends and fellow crafters could benefit as well from the traffic coming through. And while I gladly make them clothing, most of them are too busy doing their thing, and know how busy I am to really bug me. Its a win/win situation for all of us. In fact...I wish a couple of them would let me dress them more often!!! Hehe.

Well, I joined a PA (The Bloodfin Entertainer's Guild) because I liked the people who were in it and saw it as a great opportunity to have fun. I was still a Master Artisan at the time. Now, being a tailor in an entertainer's guild also has many perks. Dancers and Musicians are always looking for clothing

Make sure you get to know the members first. Guilds are no fun if you don't consider yourself friends with the members. I love my guild and even though I am not an entertainer, I would never even think of leaving the guild because of how much I love the friends I have made there.

My RL friends and I started our guild. We've just recently started taking in new members that we don't personally know. It's been a lot of fun.

I've had two other PAs try and get me to join, despite the fact that I'm already in one. It was pretty funny, because in both cases the PA leaders asked me to join the first time I'd ever met them. I couldn't imagine joining up with folks that I'd barely met! I asked one of them why they wanted someone they didn't know, and he said "We need a tailor. I'm sick of paying for clothes."

Normally I try to be nice. But I spammed laugh at him about 5 times and then ran off. He actually sent me a tell about 5 minutes later saying "so are you interested or what?"
