Thread: If you put in a new shop...

Would you look around and try to make sure you don't park yourself right next door to an existing crafter's shop of the same type?

I just noticed another tailor set up shop RIGHT next door. 50 meters away. She/he never said hello or anything.

I know they don't *have* to do anything, they have the right to put their shop there.

It just would have been nice of them to put it at least 500 meters away or say "Hello, I am putting my medium house RIGHT by your small house and setting up shop."

*sigh* This makes me feel sad.

I talked to one of the guys running the shop.

They said its going to be a mall, with eventually Master tailor, weapons, architect, etc...

I told him I was surprised to see another tailor so close, and I was worried about business...since they are *right* there. (My shop is for me (master tailor) but also my fiance has architectural goods there too.)

He said he would talk to the tailor.

He was prettynice and all, which is good....I am just very concerned.

I just need to remember, its just a game...nothing to get upset in real life over.

Well...the guy talked to the tailor, and his response to my concerns were "Aww so sad"

They asked if I would like to sell my house and move my shop.

I said why should I do that? I have been there for a long time...

He said well they will just build up around me.

He also said I shouldn't be so mad. Actually he didn't say mad, whatever he said was bleeped.

I said I am not mad, just concerned, and offended by a response of "Aww so sad."

Oh well...I am sure it will be ok. Even if it isn't its just a game. Its supposed to be fun, right?

Well now I heard one of the guys yelling outside that "Some people should stop crying" Then he said that was to "her".

So I added them all to my ignore and ban from shop list.

No big deal I guess.

No, actually, at the point where they're outside your shop disrupting your business and your gameplay it becomes harrassment, and is a /reportable offense. The shop planting was just bad business sense, but there's no excuse for that type of behavoir. /report away.

Another thing they said is if I don't move, they will build up around me. Then I noticed he put in a storage house on my other side...

Some people are just rudeI guess.

Thanks, I will consider reporting them if it becomes a problem...I don't know what they might be shouting now because I can't hear them anymore.

Before I put him on ignore, the one guy also said "Well we were going to offer you to put a vendor in our shop, but since you can't deal with another tailor..." I told him I prefer to work with nice people.

I would never put a vendor in a shop with a bunch of rude people.

He also said "Everyone has a price, what is yours?"

And "We didn't even know you sell clothes, but its too late now."

Even though I have sales records from them being in yesterday buying furniture...and I have a big wearables factory behind my shop. LOL, so I know they were inside my shop. I can't remember when they put their house up, I know it hasn't been too long ago.

Seems to be standard behavior, though.

Rori/Kettemoor is a vast, empty wasteland. Saturday afternoon, there were 13 people on the whole planet. So it's not surprising that, other than mine, there have only been three tailor shops on the whole planet.

All three of them opened up with 200 meters of me.

Only the last one is still there, though - eventually people discover how much it sucks to try to keep vendors stocked with hundreds of items for the convenience of the handful of people who live on Rori, and unless they're me, they quit. And (given what I've already posted in th endless threads about pricing), it's not like they're going to undercut me on prices by that much.

Yeah, it sucks. But it's life.

People with that sort of disrespect for others are not likely to draw away Your customers. And if you are the least bit like me, you probably would prefer not to deal with the sort of customer they will attract. I vote for keep your chin up, don'tfeed their antagonism& outlast them. Good luck and keep in mind that there are those who are in your corner.

Wow. I don't get this. Really, I don't. I started tailoring because, to my best knowledge, there were hardly any on our planet, let alone near our town. I placed my shop where I did because there were no other tailor shops there. *laughs* Better for business...right? I really don't understand why folks would want to crowd their shop near someone else's identical shop, when they could find a spot on the other side of town (or even the other side of the player city) which might be more convenient to players..

Same here Darcy.

When I placed my shop I ran all around Theed trying to figure out where the tailors were, and checking all the buildings I encountered to try to avoid crowding in on another tailor. Why would someone want to put their shop so close anyways?

I try to be available as much as possible for customers. I work and go to school, so I don't always have a ton of time to play, but when I do I am happy to work with people on orders and figuring out what they want.

When I moved to Bestine I checked everywhere to see if there was another tailor or not as well before setting my house. I mean it will hurt your business but it will hurt theirs as well. What they are doing is extremely rude, unfortunately it doesn't surprise me, lots of people are just like that

Actually, Songe dear, you DID put your shop 150 meters away from mine, which had been there for at least a week prior to your relocation. But that's ok, because you've moved and I'm sure we're both doing much better now. No hard feelings or anything, but for a while I was considering hiring someone to take care of you.../laugh no, no, I'm just kidding. It IS just a game.
Best of luck to anyone who has that happen to them, I still did a fair amount of business during this time, and my prices are slightly higher than Songe's. If you're a good tailor, and you do your best to get your name out, the people will come.

Well... some things you can do:

- Get a few personal extractors. Arrange them around your shop in such a way as to keep a bit of space clear around it.

- Be available to your customers. If people know that you're always willing to help them out, and if there's always a good variety of stock in your shop, you'll probably get the business anyway.

- If you have the skillpoints, get your merchant skills up and make sure you're registered and have a good shop sign. They'll probably register... BUT, they'll have a heck of a time with all those different vendors. See, they can register all of them, but on the overhead map they'll all be superimposed on each other and unreadable. ;-)

- Keep ignoring them. They seem to like annoying people. If you keep getting business in spite of their rudeness, they'll become frustrated with the situation.

Good luck!
