Thread: Reinforced Panels Schematic

Hey Tailors, I'm a novice Armorsmith on Chilastra server, and I just got the ability to make Chitin Armor. I am also a Novice Tailor, knowing full well that i need to make it up to Field Wear II to be a self sufficient armorsmith.

My question is, how much would you charge for a schematic for Reinforced Fiber Panels? I got a RIDICULOUS quote from a tailor today, and was wondering what you would all charge.

Yes, exactly. These are related statements.

Here's the viewpoint of a tailor.

I hate getting requests for schematics. It means it's someone that's not going to be buying from me and is about to become a competitor without really putting in any tailoring work at all. (Not to mention by going a few boxes more into into fieldware you'll eventually get the ability to make dusters, which are our professions #1 seller and you can cherry pick just those items.)

Frankly, I think there should be a "can't make, can't gain" rule on factory XP.

The main theories among tailors on schematics are: 1)Soak them, after all it's the only one you'll sell and tomorrow they'll be undercutting your prices. 2) Just give it to them cheap, after all they'll just find someone else or 3) Tell them no.

I don't want to make schematics, I want to sell someone synthcloth and panels on a long term regular basis. I want to keep that factory running as much as possible.

I guess I can understand where you're coming from. The tailor that I asked wanted 50k! She was saying how that it would be XP that shes not getting... yadda yadda.

As an armorsmith I WISH there was a tailor that would have a long term contract with me for cloth and panels, but most tailors are too busy with custom clothing orders and such. They have their own personal agendas, so theres not much help.

Blah to interdependence :-)

I think a lot of people misunderstand how schematics work (either that, or *I* do!) Each one only produces a maximum of 100 units, then vanishes, right? And then the armorsmith has to get another schematic? I think a lot of people believe a schemtatic gives you the right to produce the object in unlimited quantity, forever.

If that *was* the case, 50,000 wouldn't be unreasonable....

The slider only goes to 100, but you can type in 1000. No word on whether or not that's a bug or a feature. I have to assume feature as it won't let you type higher than 1000. But 1000 is virtually indefinite because of resource turnover.

The kicker though is thateven if the owner of the factory has no tailoring skills at all, they will earn full tailoring experience from each item produced with the schematic as long as they're close enough and online. Essentially when you sell a schematic you sell someone the ability to get the same or higher level of skill as you have. That's the real issue. I'd feel way way different if I knew they were going to be back next week for a new schematic to match the new resources.

I'm very reluctant to sell schematics as well. I normally charge 5000 credits per crate of 25 reinforced panels, which comes down to 200 credits per panel. On the rare occasion that I have sold schematics, I've done it with a royalty of 50 credits per panel. So if they wanted a schematic for 100 panels, it would cost them 5000. Your quote of 50,000 for 1000 panels seems very reasonable to me. After all, how much would all of the armor produced from those 1000 panels sell for?

Suppose a full set of composite armor retails for 100,000. Would you be willing to sell me schematics for the full set of armor at 25,000 per use on the schematic? If you did, I would be able to produce four sets of armor for the price of purchasing one of your sets. On top of that, I wouldn't have had to spend thetime and money needed to reach the required armorcrafting skill to produce them.

I rarely sell schematics. I would be willing to run a factory exclusively for an armorcrafter for a small fee and raw materials.

The way i price it is 5k a crate for reinforced panels, if u want a 100 schematic it is 10k. Same for synthetic cloth. Unfortunatley we have some dim witted tailors on my server that acually sell 100 schematics for 1.5k and crates lower that that. It amazes me that some ppl dont realize that they are acutally giviong away one of the the most profitable parts of our profession.

I would never sell a manufacturing schematic. Want factory items? Order them. Either pay my price, or supply the resources yourself and pay a reduced manufacturing fee, but _I_ will make them because _I_ am the tailor and _you_ are the armosmith. May sound snobby, but I want to keepmy business alive, and I cant do that by selling schematics for cheap.

You can make more than 5k/crate by making clothes stuff out of the panels. I fail to see how its one of the most profitable parts of our profession.

Because you can do it in a factory. Clothes you need to spend time with a client and very few make 30-75k purchases then come back in a day and ask if you have more.

What bothers me about the relationship with armorsmiths is when some of them seem to think it a great burden and artificially imposed inconvenience that they have to deal with a tailor, and are looking for any way around it. Buying schematics always seems to be the plan they arrive at, after they figure out it is the least power and independence they can possibly give up while still being able to make armor. I've had some armorsmiths seemly hold me personally responsible for how 'ridiculous' it is they need tailored items, and try to guilt me into giving up schematics out of sheer disagreement with the game design. They want to be like weaponsmiths or architects, largely able to control all commodities going in and out of their production process.

Well too bad. I'm sick of it, and I don't want to be cut out either. They can use their factories and gain big profits and XP from making the armor itself. I want to get those things from the panels and synth cloth. I've been heartened to hear the perspectives of other tailors here, and I've decided not to sell any more schematics to these guys; I'm taking back my role in the process, along with the XP and the control. From now on, panels and cloth will be sold as was intended: by the crate.
