Thread: Can I get advice?
I am just getting started myself but I'll do my best to answer your questions.
Tailor is definitely not as popular as other elite crafting professions. However, many tailors may be doing the same as myself, and purposefully not displaying their tailoring tag. The reason is that folks assume that if you're a tailor you can make them dusters, cloaks, leotards, gowns, etc. So I'm sticking to my Master Artisan tag until I at least have a shop set up.
Casual and Field wear are the two most popular lines to persue first because they contain items that are easy to sell. The tailoring line provides more color choices and a better product via experimentation. However since clothing does not decay, experimentaion isn't that important. As for me, I haven't decided yet on which path I'll take to Master.
If you want to grind up to master, the most popular route is ribbed shirts up the Field Wear line and then Cartridge Belts from there on out.
and dont you just get inundated with requests for dusters ALL DAY LONG. When you say you cant make them yet - they want to know if you will be able by tommorrow. At the speen im going - I tell them weeks and they arent too impressed.
By the way, does the amount of sockets that you can get - or the ability to get sockets on tailord items go up with tailoring 1-4skill as well as colour and experimentation?
Yea I get spammed all the time for stuff. I don't mind. I only grind when I'm a few K from my next skill. Hell I gained 1/3 the XP I need for Tailor 2 last night just making stuff for customers. I do pretty good business now that I have planetary advertising.
Hehe those that have delt with the spam for dusters (there are FAR to many Neo wanna-be's in this game I tell ya), you may get a kick out of this Fanta Shokata spoof I did when there was a big thread going around on the dev board.

I don't think theres a way to use the crafting tool through the command prompt. Heres the link to the commands for the game. http://swg.stratics.com/content/index.php?Cat=4&uid=170.
Basically the easiest way to grind is to use the hot key commands(F1-F12). I set F8 to /selectdraftschematic 56. 56 is the schematic number for my ribbed shirt. You will need to try a bunch of numbers as the schematic number goes in order by which you obtained the schematic. I then have F9-F12 along with shift+F9 set to armor/clothing crafting tools. Then all you do to grind is hit one of the crafting tools, wait for the menu to pick the schematic, hit F8, dbl click the resources, then enter 3 times. I don't think you can fully automate grinding since you have to select resources for a schematic.
You can only have 1 open at a time, however it takes 33 seconds to make a ribbed shirt. Who is going to sit there for 33 seconds again to start crafting. Thats why you have 4-5 tools and you make one, then move to the next and by the time the first one is done you should be on your last tool so you can start at the begining again.
Thanks for the toolbar shortcut, that will help a TON.
one less key click per ribbed shirt means 10000's of key clicks saved. My pinky finger thanks you.
