I went to the merchant board to try to find an answer to how to do something on my vendor and read there that the merchant correspnondent and many of the merchants want vendors takien away from people who only did business enough to get a vendor. I have novice merchant so that I get the npc vendors and they want to nerf that, too. We need to say something. I don't want my vendors nerfed!!!

At the moment it looks likethe merchant correspondent hassettled on pushing for the first vendor to appear at business IV instead of business III. As it stands there's very little incentive to take up the merchant profession. Other than a few additional vendor types and some (non-functional) advertising, the entire profession really is useless.

I'm a little indifferent on the business III/IV debate for vendors, but the entire thing seems a little trivial to me. If anything I think that they should raise the maintenance costs for artisan vendors through the roof. Offer heavy discounts at novice merchant and even more as you go up the efficiency line. They really need to focus on making the merchant trees more appealing instead of fiddling with the artisan trees in my opinion.

I'm hoping that this will finally just plain die. It's a very small number of merchants and it would do nothing. It was submitted a few times, hopefully the developers will ignore it.

There are those of us merchants who think if they fix the merchant profession then that will make people want to be merchants and nerfing artisans is not the answer.

Fix merchants and create value in having them around. Don't screw with a perfectly good working class because some thinks it's unfair.

There seem to be a bunch of very vocal people on the Merchant forum who believe that only "pure" merchants should be allowed in the game, and that "crafters with a vendor" are evil and must be eliminated one way or another.

To a large degree, I sympathize - it *would* make more sense for the weaponsmiths and armorsmiths with a dozen or so items on their vendors to sell to a "mass merchant" instead of being scattered across the galaxy.

But we tailors are unique in many ways. We need large inventories on vendors more than any other crafting profession, and I just can't see - in terms of both practical logistics and ideal business practices - selling all my great volume of stuff to merchants instead of to the public.

What worries the heck out of me is that the devs will disregard the aspects that are unique to tailors, and change vendors and/or the merchant profession according to the rule of "So long as armorsmiths and weaponsmiths aren't complaining, everything must be OK."

If they make it so that tailors have to double as merchants to get a vendor, this will really hurt our class. The "pure" merchants will only buy from the lowest-priced tailors to maximize their profits, so those of us with higher prices will esentially be forced into dropping our prices to sell to the merchants.

Right now, I can sell plenty at my higher prices because I have a decent customer base of folks who like doing business with me. But merchants aren't going to pay higher prices just because I provide good customer service.I alsooften conduct business through email, and will just make up an outfit and stick it on my vendor for the customer to come pick up. If I can't have a vendor, it would make it impossible for me to do business with any customer who isn't online when I am. Which is obviously what they're going for.

I know that there are plenty of problems with the merchant class, but taking vendors from artisans isn't going to fix their issues. It'll just mean that most of us will spend the points to train Novice Merchant, so that won't really help them. It'll just give us one more thing we have to sink points into. And make us all annoyed with the merchants...

Most crafters I know have one common goal outside their profession - get their vendors on the map. And many of us have. Fiddling with artisan lvl vendors isn't really going to do much, and even if they did move the requirements up into a merchant tree, it would only be 4 more points to squeeze out of somewhere.

With the advent of clothing categories, do we need more than one vendor as a tailor?

I never really felt a need for more than one in the first place, actually.

I want NPC vendors because the bizbox is ugly. And I want more than one because categories still don't tell people what they can and can't wear. Plus I had thoughts of opening a second shop on Tatooine.

Then again, my factories don't work, so I'm totally and completely out of business

I use two vendors. My friends and I keep looting great things that I can't make yet (often in level 3 and 4 of the various lines) and many of those things are in fantastic colors (likea beautiful, bright cherry redcasual jacket).

So I started a "bargain" vendor in the basement of my Large Naboo House. I list looted items at prices higher than what folks seem to be charging for them on the bazaar, but quite a bit lower than my prices for those items would be. That's also where I throw the sample items I may have made for customers (if they're in colors that are low-demand) or anything that doesn't sell in my regular vendor after I list it up there twice. Oh, and some of my own clothing that I've grown sick of.

Once I hit master, I'm going to stop selling any of the looted things, but may still keep a "sale" vendor for outfits in colors that just didn't work on my main vendor, my own old outfits, and a few special loss-leader style deals to get people excited to keep visiting the shop and see what they may be able to find on special next.

I don't own a vendor, and I have no business skills. It has been much more advantageous to me to simply use the vendor of a merchant friend of mine. It's a bit more of a hassle, as I don't have any sort of admin controls (I have to give him the items to be sold), but it gets the job done. I make cash, and he makes out like a bandit on merchant xp.
