Thread: *sigh* Watch for an influx of AS/Tailors

This is really starting to bug me...all the AS's on my server screaming at me over the price of the wookie segments...

I go and buy some high quality wooly hide from some AS's (at very high prices mind you!), and then make crates of these segments.

Now, I have the SAME AS's yelling at me that my prices are too high...that they can't make a profit (when I see them selling the Finished armour for 200-300K!)...

So, now there are several of them (these guys already have several hundred million net worths, not like my measly amount of cash) who are just going out and making their char AS/Tailor.

Well..there goes the profession! A bunch of grind tailors suddenly showing up at the door...

I don't think the dev's had this in mind when they wanted an interdependance of crafters...I honestly don't understand why they hate us so?! Are their HUGE fortunes not already big enough? I mean, we have to buy components from BE's...and I don't know about you, but I don't buy schematics from them, I buy finshed crates. What is going on here?

I can understand the frustration when they yell at your prices but I wouldn't worry about too many ASs starting tailor... so many points for one component that will be used in armor that only a minority of players will use is not a very goodtrade offIMO.

Armorsmiths have taken up to field wear II for quite a long time so that they could make their own cloth. This is nothing new. To make the armor padding they will have to take up to field wear III and take all of the tailoring tree just to get the experimentation points they need to make decent components. Most will not want to do this because that ties up alot of skillpoints. Those who start separate tailor characters to make these components will probably not spend the time needed to become good at the other aspects of tailoring, so they are no threat. You have every right to earn a profit just as they do. If they do not want to buy your components at a rate that would make a profit over what you could sell the resources for, then just politely refuse to sell and wait for someone else to come along.

And there's *always* been some incentive for Armorsmiths to pick up Tailor anyhow - so they don't have to buy Synth Cloth and RFPs from "real" Tailors.

In my experience, they provide little for a true professional tailor to worry about (apart from lost crate sales, if you're concerned about that.)

And they're unlikely to even try to compete in the clothing market, since they're in the armor business, which has a far higher profit margin. I have seen the occasional "billionaire altruist" tailor, the sort that millions in some other profession, and then say "Oh, I'll make you whatever you want for free" in a crowded cantina, but that sort never seems to last very long.

That is the sort that tailors probably need to concern themselves with. I'm sure there will be a fair share of AS/T's that are like that, and this time they *will* be in it for the long haul (or in it at least until they give up AS).

Actually, by that I meant more "giving away clothes gets old fast." I don't have any actual or anecdotal evidence on this, but I'd imagine the /tell hell for someone who's both a tailor *giving* stuff away *and* an armorsmith makes our usual level look downright pleasant!

I really don't see any armorsmiths going past field wear 2. Like you say, you need to go up the experimentation line also for the padded segs.

Only reason I grinded up to FW2 is because it was next to impossible to find a reliable vendor to supply me with clothes. The girl who used to supply me with cloth made me free schematics (I supplied material of course), but in turn, I let her use my wearables factory (i gave her admin access), I'd usually give her some armor and a couple thousand credits if my armor was selling ok (this was all b4 I was master armorsmith).

Is it ok to give away Ribbed Shirts ? lol..................

I haven't made any of the new armor padding yet, but as I understand it, this uses the Tailor experimentation, so by not actually mastering tailor, they would be missing out on 2 experimentation points. I would imagine those extra 2 points we get at master would have a decent impact on the armor padding, so unless the armor padding doesn't have a large role in the final combine of the Wookie armor, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Even for the ones that do master tailor to be able to make this, I just don't see a Master Armorsmith expanding into actually selling tailor materials, as I believe Bindi pointed out, armorsmith is a much more lucrative profession, especially short-term. (though I bet several Master Tailor's could give them a run for their money on income)

Don't let these armorsmiths push you around. They need to understand if they want the best wookiee segments its going to cost them because of the rare organic resources required, it will take a while for the new changes to sink into their minds so just stay at your price and do other things for a while. It's just that no one is used to paying tailors good money, this is exactly why the devs made us something to sell, so tailors wouldn't be so absurdly poor compared to other crafting classes.Don't worry, these shrewd customerswill come crawling back eventually when the armor economy stabilizes again.

Or we'll just get our tailor friends/guildmates to make them for us... If you don't want to be poor, become an armor or weapon smith.

Just a quick note: By rare resources, do you mean wooly and any hide?
Because thats what you need. And some fiberplast.

Armorsmiths need those resources anyway and normally have big piles of the best the galaxy can offer coming in through already established supply channels.

I believe armorsmiths are not really interested in buying crates of the padded segments but rather in supplying the resources and buying schematics.

Also, although I may be wrong here, the best base you can get is 4% and that is quite easily reached without the best of the best resoures. Of course there are the often rumoured decimals that supposedly could bring you close to a hidden 5% base.

There are also clothing experimentation tapes and they cost only a fraction of what the equivalent armor tapes cost. You can get 2 extra points by that. Of course 12 pt Master Tailors will have a slight advantage, because they can use the extra two points on encumbrance/durability, but as always, the armor customer base is less concerned with encumbrance than with high protection.

And lets not forget that this is just one component. The big gains are still to be found in experimentation on the advanced segments.

Once again, an AS telling us that we are worthless, or don't know how to experiment, etc...

Why don't you just go play with your armour, and leave us alone...either buy these components from us or don't...buying the Schematics and then giving us some small pittance (like the 10K I've been offered) is BS!

You know, Tuanga.. I almost wish I played on Bloodfin, just so I could choose to not buy armor from you.

On a more serious note, I don't know how this is all going to rattle out. I just hit Master last night, and I'm planning on sending out an announcement mailing to my former customers and friends.. but now I'm hesitating, because I don't know if any of them are Armorsmiths now. I mean, it's not like I have a problem with A'smiths, but I just don't want any new headaches.
