Thread: Someone re-selling bio clothes for double the cost??

My master tailor on Ahazi makes bio clothes, and sells them on the open market. Lately I' ve come across one name who always seems to buy my bio clothes wookie or otherwise in the instant sale complete confirmation e-mail. Ive had my suspicions for a while now and just tonight I saw this person on Dantooine only because I recognized the name, standing AFK in the minning outpost shouting about his vendor being fully stocked with guess what? So I decided to go look, and sure enough there was some of my bio clothes in among a bunch of others made by other tailors, only they were being sold for double the price of whatI originally charged. Now you might say say what difference does it make? I got the credits for selling it in the first place.

Well, mypersonal grudgeis that this person didn't put any effort or money into making the clothes and now he's trying torip people off.

So my question. Wheather this is right, wrong or okay, what is the general consensus opinion of some of the other tailors here, on this type of thing? Should I try to contact some of those other tailors and tell them this person is doing this? It may seem superficial but but its really more the princeple of the thing.

That happens to me once in a while and I'm okay with it. If this person is able to buy and resell your clothes successfully, you may want to try raising your prices to the level that the market will pay. All in all, you're still receiving the amount that you listed the clothes for on your vendor.

Remember, if the reseller is pricing your clothes at more than what people are willing to buy them for, they won't be back to deplete your stock. Price your items competitively and the reseller market will disappear.

Competative pricing issues aside, I find it a problem if someone buys out my vendor for any reason (i.e. he's decorating his house and must have every backpack of every style right now off my vendor, as storage containers). To me, that's rude, because then others will come to my vendor, find it understocked (through no fault of mine) and never return. Bleh.

Sounds like a very good merchant to me.

Find a place where market is in need,
collect stuff all other the galaxy and resell them for a price people still buy.

He does go buy the items, he does pay the travel price, he does pay his house and vendor maintenance.

If it's not the perfect description of a good merchant (except the spamming) I don't know what is.

If you don't like that, put a shop on that planet and sell your items there.

I would think that if you sell BE clothes on the bazaar you are prolly selling them really cheap, I would prolly do the same thing.

That's a very good point! Admittedly I charge far more on my vendors than I'd really like to. But again, I'm forced to do that because strangers would go on buying sprees and purchase far more items than I'd like them to. That aside, I've made it clear to friends and frequent customersthat they shouldput in custom or in-person orders instead. It's a far more personal and enjoyable experience and plus I get to slash my pricesspecifically for them.

I added my name in the clothing item: Hot Pants By Iwra - Injury/Wound Treatment +25. That way if the personsells it, customers will always get back to me. Not the merchant.

I don't care for whatever reasons people buy my clothes (thats what they're for) But i really hate to have an empty vendor.

I have a business tag on TC (it's -MAC-), mostly b/c I don't want tells. Hee hee. That identifies my business (it's on my sign). Also, I have a doctor and MAY branch into selling meds (ugh, MAY) and I want to be able to have a consistent tag for all my 3 characters.

Just one thought. Since most products in the real world are bought by resellers from wholesellers have you ever thought of contacting him directly and trying to set up a resale wholesale relationship with this guy? maybe agree to make a few extra crates for him specifically in the items he needs and he agrees to not pull the ones off your vendor? That way you can both maintain stock and you'll expand your market share. Quite frankly when I finally hit master tailor i would love to have a business relationship like that. More money for everyone.

Consider it advertising. When I was master arch, there wasanother arch who used to buy BER 10 medium harvesters from my vendor & resell on his at a 25% markup (mine were reasonably priced to begin with). Not only did I have a very good and steady income selling to him at my regular price, I frequently got new customers who had seen my name on harvesters on his vendor. Then there was the one time a player sent me a tell while still in the other arch's shop, asking me if I would be able to make 10 harvesters for him. Within 20 minutes he was buying 10 harvesters off of my fully stocked vendor and has been a frequent customer since.

If it really bugs you, temporarily raise your prices. If you do this tho..you might want to find a way torebate your regular customers to make up for the difference. If you're like me..your customers are your friends..I don't gouge my friends.

I feel your pain on this Da'Ahn. I had the same situation a few months ago where I had 3 people wiping out my BE vendor. I was suspicious (Ieven sent one a tell saying I noticed you have purchased a lot of items lately....his response was I just love your stuff. The reality was he loved making money)& finally sent a guild mate undercover. My items were being sold for triple the price (the 3 people had a store together in the Coronet shopping district). I attempted to contact the other people involved personally but they would not respond (and yes I was cordial even thought I was fuming mad). Tailoring has a lot to do with reputation. I pride myself on good customer service & reasonable prices (like many of you do). I do not want my name associated with price gougers or people who have questionable ethics. Here is what I did......I banned them from my store, I made sure everything had my name in the title, I raised my prices, & I made a sign in my BE vendor that said "NO Resellers! All resellerws will be banned". I am happy to say I have not had any problems since then.

Myactions if I found someone doing this:

1. Ban his ass.

2. Set up a Personal Chemical Harvester by his shop with the name: "Don't buy from resellers! Get it cheaper from the sorce: XXX XXX | Planet"

Admittidly my way is a little more direct than some other things suggested, but it gets the job done.

Eventually I might take away the harvester (I would likely just let the matinence run down) once he learned his lesson.
