Thread: Question proposal: socketing explanation

Currently master tailors seem to get 4-socketed items about 10% of the time (post the wookiee armor patch). Obviously, they would like to increase this percentage, as they were getting 4 sockets consistently pre-patch.

What factors go into determining the number of sockets an item gets? In particular we would like to know about (1) tailor'sclothing experimentation level + mods (2) tailor's clothing customization level + mods (3) tailor's clothing assembly level +mods (4) tailor's clothing repair level + mods (5) clothing & armor crafting tool rating (6) clothing & armor crafting station rating (7) use of a crafting droid and (8) any foods/drinks/spices. Which of these factors will increase the chance to gain sockets, and to what degree (numbers/percentages please)?

There were a lot of good questions, but here's why a lot of them would not be answered - they deal with future content. Devs are reluctant to give promises as is. JTL stuff will likely be revealed when the devs think is the proper moment - some may come out during fanfest. Because of this, I think that it might be more productive to focus on "how things are supposed to work now" rather than "what are you going to do for me next?" as I think the "present" items are more likely to be answerable without a secrecy issue.

Any comments, or strong objections, or other questions that you think are likely to be answered?

I like it. Maybe we could make it a bit clearer that we want to have an influence on the number of sockets we want, but it's pretty good as it is.

One thing to remember is the devs don't like giving out stats and percentages for how things work so that might cause a little problem. I'm sure I remember sometime ago a question about crafting stations and their response being they're working right but we're not going to tell you how much effect they have.

N'Jessi if they're reluctant to give hard numbers could you push them to at least give us a general idea how those things effect socketing?

Yes, TH stated flat-out that he won't post numbers unless he absolutely has to. Personally, I think we're going to get the brushoff on this question. I'd rather see something like:

Currently, there is no content dedicated to crafters in the same way that Theme Parks exist for combat-types. Are there any plans to rectify this gross oversight, and if so, how?

As to your question, I think they are making it. I remember that one of the patches (11 I think) is supposed to introduce "social theme parks". The entertainer forums probably know about it though, if you want to search around there. So, the short answer to your question is "yes".

I believe that the19 questions were originally meant to answer question questions, not these "please make/fix this?" requests that every profession seems to have been making (which explains why TH keeps brushing them off). Keep in mind if your questionsis a question, itwill more likely be answered, where as a request will almost invariably be answered by a "wait and see" or "we areworking on it"response.

Wow, I seem to really be stirring the pot and causing trouble on the tailor forums. Sorry.

So far the only question I've seen that got a real, effective answer (other than the decay bug—go n'Jessi) was the architect question about how stations affect crafting. Other questions of that sort—BEs asking about how their crafting works—got brushed off. So really, anything you ask is hit or miss. I honestly don't even see a point to asking anything at all anymore.

its a good question and i don't think its asking JUST for numbers its saying does 1, 2, 3, or whatever effect sockets during crafting. A clear Yes/No would be enough because then we can figure the rest out. It's like throwing someone in the middle of the woods and saying "there is a village to the North East that will help you, all other exits are hostile." and then not telling them where south is at least. We arn't asking for the compass, just want to know which way to walk.

i think thats a correct statement for you all?

That will get the same kind of answer for sure. At leastfor N'Jessi's question it will 1- bring to their mind that we want to have control over how many sockets we get ; 2- get us a real answer on whether they are planning on changing it or not. Even if it's just a 'we'll see after the next publishes' or something. We're not asking for numbers are we?

They already know that we want control, and we already know that they don't intend to change it. We already asked, and were answered, about how it works—incorrectly, I might add. So what's the point?

Looks good, except for the last few words. As has been said already, TH won't give us numbers. Maybe word the last sentence to :
Which of these factors will increase the chance to gain sockets? If they do, do they increase the chance to get sockets marginally or greatly?

Huh I must have missed it then, where was it?

To come back to the first post, I would add something to underline the fact that tailors mostly do single items and very rarely schematics, and that as such it makes it much harder to offer 4 sockets on our items than armorsmiths, unless we waste the resources of sometimes 20 items just to make one.

Well I don't see anywhere that they don't intend to change it. So it's worth asking.
