I'mnew at this tailoring business too, and I would like a set of sub-components before I hit master so I can get tailoring right away. I know we use a lot of synthetic cloth and I have a factory run already going of that. Butis it worth doing factory runs of any other sub-components or is it just more efficient to make them by hand when you need them?

In my opinion, I'd rather poke out my eye with a sharp stick than hand-make any components, ever. Run them ALL in the factory, and it will save you lots of time.

I make all components in crates and actually sell crates of 25 travel packs on my vendor... They sellpretty well.

I do factory runs of every subcomponent as well. It just makes my life soooooo much easier having them premade to drop into the ingredient slots (cargo pockets too) It''l cut down your time producing the desired item immensely.

Run them all if you can! Once your business starts to take off, you'll never have enough time to handcraft your components. Depending on what you'll be selling the most of, the needs on your components may differ from other tailors. Here's a listing of what I tend to use from the most frequent to least:
- SYNTHETIC CLOTH- make tons and tons (you may also choose to sell crates to Armorsmiths, Doctors and other Tailors)
- Trim- I use a lot of it, plus you can sell to Chefs
- Metal Fastners
- Fiberplast Panels
- Reinforced Fiberplast Panels
- Jewelry Settings- mostly for dresses and jewelry
- Shoe Soles
A tip: Keep your finished crates in the output hopper of your factory to help with storage. When you notice that your hopper is getting too full, you can transfer some into your input hopper.
Good luck!

I actually do cargo pockets by the crate and then run actual runs of 25-100 backpacks - hey, they don't need custom colors, it's great!

not only do you save time and precious finger clicky motions... but several items require same serialed components so you need to factory run 'em... i'm about to expand my components from 1 factory to 3 and i'll bet you i can still run out faster than i can produce. Well once i throw up an ad or 2 on the forums =]

Ahhhh! Cargo Pockets! How could I ever forget them! Could it be when I first started Tailor many months ago, I had this idea "Well.. I better run a full factory of pockets... almost EVERY piece of clothing has pockets!" I still think I'm working on that first factory run.
Another thought.. and I know it's been talked about before. Why do looted Cargo Pockets have storage, crafted ones don't, and when you put crafted ones in an item, they don't offer storage? /grin

I have three factories and one in the bank for crunch times. I run 1000 schems of ALL tailor components (except the wookiee pillows) just about every week. (Sometimes 3 times a week if I get hit hard by Chefs and Armorsmiths.) Including 1000 runs of travel packs. Then I stick them all in the Crates vendor. It's right next to my Fashions and Wookiee Only vendors. It makes it super easy to restock the vendors; all the crated comps I need are right there.And crates sell really well too. Even metal fasteners and shoe soles. To other tailors, armorsmiths, architects, doctors, chefs... I list crates in singles and in packs of various counts, for factory runs. 5,10, 20, 40. Serial numbered for ease ofpurchasing and sorting for factory use.
As for crafted cargo pockets not having storage; it's on our list of items we wish the Devs would fix (or tell us why crafted ones do not have storage). I often wonder if the people who buy crates of cargo pockets are aware crafted ones do not have storage. None have ever returned them, so I presume they were tailors or someone else doing factory runs of backpacks. /shrug

Definitely do them all. Usage will be roughly:
You need tons of these:
=================
Synth Cloth (make heaps, them make heaps more, then cry when you run out anyhow)
You need a lot of these:
=================
Trim
Reinforced Fiber Panels
Jewelry Settings
Metal Fasteners
A few hundred of these will last a good time
================================
Cargo Pockets
Shoe Soles
Fiberplast Panels (though you can sell these to some AS sometimes)

Factories are great, but there is one thing to remember. If you are not a master tailor ("new to the tailoring biz" used to meannot a master tailor, but often that's not the case anymore
) advancement is still a very important issue and will often take precidence over convenience. If you make all your components in factories from the start, it just means that much more grinding or clothes that need to make to advance. So it really is a trade-off.
Factories start becoming required at around the 3rd level boxes as I recall, until you get to that point, hand making them is still an attractive option just for xp-sake.

/agree
When I was up and coming I didn't use any crated items unless I had an order that called for an item that required it. When you're crafting as a non 4-4-4-4 tailor, every little bit of XP helps.

I agree. As a 0111 tailor who's trying to sell as I go, I make components as I need them, with the exception of regular (not reinforced) fiber panels, and metal fasteners. They just take up space in my inventory otherwise, and they give general crafting xp, not the tailor I need so badly. I do make crates of the synth cloth, because they sell for a pretty penny (credit?
) to all my armorsmith friends, and I will make the reinforced fiber and armor padding for the same reason. Otherwise, until I need identical items, I'm making them 1 at a time.
