I remember having 3-4 backpacks in my inventory called 'fiberplast panels', 'metal fastners', 'synthetic cloth' and 'trim'. Could never work out why I kept running out of space 
Now I do all components by the crate, and always have at least 1 crate of each on me with spares in my droid crafting stations. That way when I get stopped by a customer they don't have to wait for me to make the components along with their clothing.

If you have an armoursmith friend let them know when you start stocking themas many use them for full sets of armour.

Crate sizes are Dvnce's (architect corre) pet project. I'm supporting him in whatever way I can

It will make your life MUCH MUCH easier to just que up large factory runs of all your components and then enjoy the freedom of making anything and everything without having to worry about making components...
