Thread: How does a new tailor make any money??

I've just become a noob tailor, and ground up to level 1 skill reqs with 6k of ore. But I'm really wanting to power-level through tailoring, I wanna make some money and have some fun. I deliberately didn't put my points into fieldcraft as I thought people might say casual or formalwear is the way forward.

Please help the resource drain to get up to master tailor is stupendously high. Also do you always use BE tissues? I have 10 +1bleed defence ones.

Also how much do clothing addons go for ? I have loads of +1 ones.

The only decent thing which i've made is a jacket which offers a +1 bonus to creature taming and +15 to both taming vicious and wild animals. I don't particualrly want to sell it, but if it gets a decent amount of money i'd consider it, i'm on chimera so thigs with adv tranqs in them are pretty rare.

Thanks

Blunder

There are a lot of novice items that, as a master, I still regularly sell.. *grins* Thin-striped pants, several of the shirts, and backpacks -- particularly the backpacks! -- sell extremely well. You won't be making huge wads of cash with them, but it's certainly a start.

As for the various lines, I went up field wear first myself, although I understand that this isn't always a popular decision; still,I found the heavy reinforced jackets and the desert command jackets sold regularly and for a good price at the early tiers. So do the paramilitary camos further along, the various new backpacks -- and the dusters! *grins* It's certainly not a death-toll on your 'career'.

I'm afraid I can't help with the BE enhancements, though; I use those only when folks come to me with them, as my local friendly BE has been a bit overworked lately.. *grins*

I hardly made a single credit before I hit master... even at Tier IV. It's mostly colors that people are interested in. I always used to sell Trim Lined Shirts. People buy them for 3k on my server, so I sold those a lot. Some people are also interested in Reinforced Jackets too, so you might want to look into that.

you get Black at novice tho , which is what most people want. Spec ops dusters, Gunmans Dusters, Cloaks, Bustiers, Paramilitary Camo's, Decorative Vests, Lekku Wraps, Doctors Dress's, Trim Lined Shirt's, those jeans looking slacks, ect. All sell well in my experience, as do bountyhunter and specopsbackpacks.

Place stuff on the bazaar in a busy city like coronet and you should be able to sell failry well.

Get a wearables factory. Produce factory crates of fiberplast panels, synthetic cloth, and (when you get Field Gear II) reinforced fiber panels or whatever they're called. Then sell these things to armorsmiths and other tailors.

I know I'd buy these things.

I did field wear first - well this was back in the day when the game first came out and everyone was screaming at me "duster duster, for the love of god, when are you going to be able to make dusters..". Besides that though, I think field gear is the only line you can go up and have most of the clothes look decent without the bright colors. Once you get up to field 4 you can probably fund yourself with dusters, backpacks, and camos until you get a few colors, without which the casual and formal lines are difficult to sell. There are only so many black bustiers you can make before the dancers eat you alive.

What kept food in my mouth when I was starting out was selling backpacks and dusters on the vendor. If you are not in a guild and really need to make money (as I used to be), master the field wear tree first and then work on tailoring experimentation next.

People also buy a lot of leather gloves and uniform boots. I would recommend selling the leather gloves (black) and boots (black) for 1k each on the vendor. Special ops and BH packs do not sell less than 3k, same goes for the dusters. Make sure that you pick a well-populated city's bazaar that doesn't have a lot of these up for sale, that way you won't be competing as much with other tailors doing the same thing to get by. If you have a shop, list your shop WP in the title of each backpack you sell.

Selling RFP and SC panels also helps, but it requires the up-front cost of buying a factory, power and lets not forget maintenance. If you cannot buy these yet, sell packs and stuff on the bazaar until you can move on to that next step and get that factory humming.

I am sorry, I wish SOE would get modern and allow us the luxury of a darn "EDIT" button. What I meant to say was: "What kept food in my mouth when I was starting out was selling backpacks and dusters on the bazaar"

I became pretty wealthy long before hitting master. It's all about knowing what sells in your sever and region.

Ore is almost useless to a tailor btw. Are you sure you're a tailor? lol

Power leveling? There are so many threads about this, take the 2 min to look before asking. People that have been a tailor a long time and worked their way up the tree don't want to hear about "master in a day types" anyway, so the less said the better.

What sells well? At your level not much, but there are opportunities. Try these:

novice tailor: military packs, smocks, formal shirts, thin striped pants, hide boots, and all the wookiee items you can make. Also crates of synthetic cloth sell very well either directly to armorsmiths/architects or just on the bazar.

Going for formalwear or casualwear first I think is smart if you care about selling along the way. If you're simply power grinding, with no intention to "play" a tailor, then conventional wisdom is to grind up fieldwear first. Formalwear actually has some very good selling items in the level 1 box.

One other piece of advice: don't make the mistake of underpricing these items. On the bazar this will actually hurt you (making your items look like noobwear). Stick about the 1k mark, and if the bazar is flooded with the items you want to sell at prices lower than that, simply sell other items or move on to another bazar in another city.

I'm at 4/4/3/4 now, never had a shop, well over 800k in my bank. You just need to look at the the market, find what's NOT there and make it. I did things bass-ackwards compred to everyone else I leveled Casual and Tailoring, switching back and forth. Then went up Field.
Non-tailors really have no idea just how many types of clothes are out there. Lots of tailors only put out what they know is popular or will sell. Use weird colors! Be different! Admittedly, you probably won't sell any Crested Vests (*shudder*)...

I sell a ton on the Bazaar. I moved to Master Tailor in 2 weeks of casual gaming, but I had 300k to spend on resources and such. So it was easy to advance. I can't harvest my own resources because I have no lots left. All taken up by my guild hall and factory.
