Thread: Draft of Colorization proposal to be piggybacked on the ID changes
As you know, there are no easy solutions. Ask for too much and it is too big a project to tackle between the combat balance and space expansion. Ask for too little and important things are left out. I hope that this request reflects our biggest issues accurately. Please understand that the items I left out were based on not my own preferences but based on complexity, feasibility, and community priorities.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The tailoring community noticed that the Image Designers were getting some new palettes, and wants a piece of the action, if at all possible. The community does not begrudge the ID’s their time in the sun.
However, there are some tailoring color issues that have been hanging around for quite a while, and I was hoping that this might be a good time to address them, while palettes are being reexamined.
In order to facilitate the discussion, I will be referring to the palettes by letter as they appear on this chart. I apologize for the use of imagedump for most pictures, but I have no webspace.
Tailoring Color Requests:
Tailors Request Certain Colors that Exist on “Secondary” Palettes to be added to the Main Palette (Palette D). These colors are (in order of importance) yellow, deep red, and aqua.
Yellow: we lack a “primary color” yellow on the main palette (Palette D) – however this yellow is available on the “leather” palette used for boots (Palette A). The current yellow is a mustardy color that fades out into a pale baby yellow, but never achieves the saturation of a primary color yellow.
This is the current mustardy yellow available for the bulk of the items (Palette D)
We would like to add this primary color yellow (which is currently in Palette A) to the main palette (Palette D)
Deep Red: the dress robe has a different palette from the other garments (Palette F) and in that palette there is a deep dark red, which the tailors have requested in addition to their “fire engine red.”
This is the current fire engine red
We would like to add this deep red from Palette F to the main Palette D
Aqua: there is an aqua color in the metallic palette (Palette C) which the tailors have requested added to the main palette (Palette D).
Implementation: Although a "spectrum" for each of these colors would be ideal, for simplicity, the colors could simply be added as 3 new boxes at the end of Palette D (as are 19A B and C on this grid)
Tailors Request the Main Palette (Palette D) Be Available for all Items, as was Requested in Our Top Five.
For a long time, tailors have been hoping to get rid of the secondary palettes (A, B, C, E, F, G) and use the primary palette D for all items. Expanded colors for the limited palettes was #4 of our last top 5.
Matching is difficult: Many colors do not overlap, and it is particularly difficult to match shoes to the rest of the outfit. For example, there is no Palette D equivalent for the yellow on Palette A (which is the “boot” palette). Even when colors are purportedly the same (i.e. black and black) most tailors find that there are differences between the black on palette D versus the black on Palette A, differences which are unrelated to texture.
Continuity is probably not an issue: I realize that we want to keep continuity, but as a practical matter, boots, gloves, dusters and all other items on the secondary palettes would not ruin the Star Wars feeling if offered in bright colors. After all, padded armor boots and gloves do come in the full palette.
As for wookiees: I realize that wookiees traditionally are not supposed to wear bright colors, but as of now they can wear all the chef garments that are brightly colored, as well as the life day robe. They are also getting armor. Maybe we can "bend" the continuity rules?
The top 5: Anabelle reported this
4. Expanded colors for Wookiees and Boots/Shoes.
"We have a big suprise for you soon."
This post has caused much confusion for the tailoring community, as it suggested that the secondary palettes were being expanded.
In general, the community has been very satisfied with how the profession is progressing, and they appreciate the current efforts at bug fixing (such as twi’lek headgear, or the apron colorization). These two issues have just been lingering for a long time, and have surfaced in response to the ID changes.
The yellow in the leather palette isn't primary; it's a pastel gold. To see a real, bright, primary yellow, go to the trim colors in the vehicle customization palette. That's what I'd like, personally.
The leather color is better than what we have, but it still isn't a real golden yellow.
Bio Engineers..... hmmmmm
If I see a Fuchia Rancor with Lime stripes on it... I'm gonna have to be sick
