What kind of guild are you guys in, if any? I've been in two really, and everytime I just felt that when you play a crafter you are a kind of second class profession and nobody cares about you, unless they need something. I have been in my current guild since december, and we just lost all the combat players because they wanted some heavy pvp and guild wars without it being a problem to the crafters... Basically what is left is a few more social people and crafters, and none of them cared whether they would appreciate being left behind or not. Obviously, I am not.

So, what has been your experience with guilds? Have you felt the same way, what kind of guild are you on, does it seem to work? I'm not even sure there are guilds without PvPers anywhere...

My armorsmith had that problem. My tailor however, had joined an extremely nice guild, where people give me free schematics and loots, and I give them free stuff made from them or other things. I get invited to hunts, but I can't fight very well ( pistol 4, to go with master tailor, merchant), but am not made to feel bad if I can't tag along. I see enough horrible guilds out there, that I also have 2 unguilded alts, who may never join one. My tailor is truly lucky.

I have a similar situation to both of you actually. I belong to a very nice guild on Intrepid. Crafter/Merchant oriented. We just recently suffered a loss of many combat oriented members though because our city neutrality impacted their PvP interests. That left our remaining combatants with a lot more to do, policing the city, obtaining needed resources for the crafters, etc. Actually kind of worked out well -- economically. Opened up some dead real estate in the city too. Reorganizing the merchant district. Consolidating resources and functions.

I don't have any combat skills at all onmy tailorchar, but being on the city council, one of several guild recruiters, the owner of all the merchant tents in the city, the city factory manager and being in town almost 100% of the time; I havea ton of various things to do to keep me busy. And I get a lot of free or far below market prices on things I need too. If I pipe up in guild chat that I am running dangerously low on Tatooine wooly, by the next day I have a few stacks of a few thousands from various hunters offered on my vendor. Often at 1 credit for the whole stack. Or 1 cpu. And just last week a friend dropped off a stack of 60k leathery. 60k of one kind! Free! *faints*

I got lucky. It's a really great guild, with a good reputation, dedicated crafters, generous hunters, and very friendly and helpful members.

Don't give up on finding a guild that suits your needs and playstyle. They are out there. And sometimes you have to step forward and volunteer. There's lots of things to do in a guild that is all player generated as content or services. Maybe offer to oversee something like that?

I love the guild I'm in, so much that when the old leader left the game I took over ownership of it!

About half the guild are crafters and as such we all support each other. I make synth cloth and trim for the armoursmiths and chefs and in return they provide my combat alt with armour and food. The combat members provide me with resources and looted components and in return they get cheap or free clothing. We do help each other out a lot which is why SEF went from 'Elite Force' to 'Eternal Family' a few months back

I've been in 2 guilds since I started. The first guild i was part of was great, but i think I was a bit older than most of the people involved. While that wasn't too big a problem, I sometimes felt that the conversations were a bit.... retarded, and also there was an air of narrow-mindedness about which professions where more acceptable than others (needless to say a tailor wasn't required in a mostly combat-oriented guild).

I decided to move on and am now in a guild with people in the same age group as I am andthat strikesa nice balance of combatants and crafters (which is just fine by me). At the end of the day, there was only so much "OGMORFOOLRLF I GOT A CAMPOSYT AMRMRO SUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111opne **edit**" i could handle.

i have been in 3ish guilds since i started

the first one was the best because even though they really didnt care too much about my (at the time) entertainer proffession unless they needed buffs i was considered "one of the guys" (i was the only girl) so i personally wanst ignored just my char....then the guild disbanded cause everyone started leaving, and yeah sadunpretty sight

then i joined a mostly pvp guild, where guild chat was so quiet cause they were all talking in group chat so that was boring

the ish part comes in here where the second guild disbanded and reformed under a new name, but the leader passed of leadership, and much the same as the first post, everyone who pvps left leaving us with only a few regular members that actually talk in guild chat

i will soon be leaving though and joininga mostly crafters guild on lok so maybe that will be a nice change! if not i got another guild offer too...

my advice, make a topic on your server forums asking for a guild that would like/care about having a crafter in the guild

I had some bad experiences with the first 2 guilds I was in but I won't dwell on that here... I had just about come to the conclusion that I would be better off guildless when I met a few new friends that shared my same interests... So we formed our own guild, "STARS of Theed"...

"STARS of Theed" is primarily an entertainer's guild... We're a very close, tightknit group of about 11 people, all entertainers... (with the occasional combat alt thrown in for good measure...)

We're having so much fun we've decided to open a cantina together in the very near future... Here's a picture of our most recent Sunday Night Jam Session...

I have to say, being in a great guild really does make a difference in my game-play... I was on the verge of canceling my account altogether and now I'm having some fun in game again...

I've been in guilds since I started. My first guild was a tight-knit group of folks - maybe 10 of us - who shared and shared alike. This worked because everyone was doing SOME craft - which I thought was normal at the time, but not everyone has a crafter/something else template. We gave each other free goods and it wasn't a big deal. The problem came from a combination of some guild members giving up their crafting skills, and an influx of entirely-combat characters. The system of share and share alike was not viable if there was only give and no take. When many of the core members quit, I ended up moving on, a combination of feeling like a craft slave, being treated like a personal messenger for my armorsmith fiance, and a lack of respect because I was female and not combat oriented (not sure which of these caused the greater disrespect, but it was quite obnoxious.)

The new guild I joined, which I am still a member of, though I don't play much on Scylla, was a largish guild so right away I figured out I couldn't do discounts. The reason for that was simply 1) the guild was too big 2) I didn't want to discount for those who did not really "contribute" and 3) I didn't want to be pulled away from whatever I was doing to custom-make something that was on my vendor already just to give a discount.

On TC, my tailor is in the correspondent PA, so I don't really have guild issues with her. My other two characters are guilded, but it's such a big PA anyway, that there's no way I could do discounts. I actually enjoy being in CPA with my tailor, which is a pretty dead channel, because then I don't get hassled for custom orders... hehe I make Syzygy do the custom orders and keep a low profile these days Taking a little breather (attempting to study... really...).

So the short version: I think if you are in a primarily crafter guild - or any guild that has primarily "producers" instead of "consumers" (i.e. medics etc) then it's viable to have a closer relationship in terms of discounts than in a large guild full of consumers - unless those consumers are of SERIOUS help to you (serious help is not "here are 2 metal clasps, make me stuff")

I've never been in a guild. I'm thinking that might change soon. I make so little cash off of my crafting professions in the scheme of things, that I'm just about ready to craft for fun. To put it in perspective, my BE Clothes vendor last month had about 2.5 million in sales, my droid vendor had about1.2 millionin sales, and my "rare items" vendor accounted foraround 10 million - all looted stuff, quest reward stuff, etc.

Compliment this with the fact that I had SO much fun yesterday making red, white, and blue outfits for various citizens of my town, all free of charge, and it seems a path I am interested in walking down.

I'm in the Mos Eisley Consortium. MEC's core is a group of people who were friends beforehand, from squadrons formed around the Star Wars space combat simulators (X-Wing and its followups). About 1/3 are Master crafters of one type or another. None of us are heavy into PvP. We try to get together once a week and go blast something together, but usually we're just all friends playing the same game.

They've always been very supportive. Heck, they've almost helped me too much with the loot schematics: I've got two factories and a house packed with schematics and components to burn through. They don't seem to be worth a whole lot of money at this point, but it's something to do.

I imagine it's difficult finding a good guild from in-game stuff. (I"m sure I couldn't; I'm shy enough as it is. I'd recommend looking for a smaller PA, preferably one with a general or non-combat focus. Check out their forums and see what they're arguing about this week. Posting on your server's forum is a great idea.

Hope this helps.

I don't know what it is about the word 'smacktard' but I think it's hilarious. Does that mean I am one?

Ouch ArthurDent, but you are so right about the comment about combat players being less mature than crafters in general. Funny enough, all the ones who left the guild were the younger ones, themain reason it hurt is because some of them had become RL friends since. My situation is a bit different though because I also enjoy hunting and it's what I miss the most, but again there is the difference between PvPers/loot freaks and people who just like hunting for fun, even if it's just with pistol 4. At least we have a few of those left, just not enough to really make any kind of hunt /sigh.

I'm not worried for my business though. My vendors are in the Mall of the city I am mayor of, I am retiring (or trying to... getting people to vote for my successor is a real pain), but will prolly stay there even if I get another guild because business is really good... The fact that the mall depends on the city and not a guild, and that the city is a mix of guilded and unguilded peoplemakes it much easier.

The problem for me is that it's an online game, and I am not playing it just to spend my time crafting on my own. It just seems that if you are not much into PvP it is hard to really do anything as a group.

Ha ha! I think NJ coined that word. She applies it with glee on those who deserve it! Go to this thread to find out what the definition of a smacktard is:
