Thread: Advice please Complimentary Professions

Its a new year , and I think its time my life went in another direction , and I ground another profession.

I know for a fact that I amNOT giving up Tailor, but if what I think is right , then I don't need to keep Master Merchant to keep my vendors.

As long as I keep them stocked and maintained I think they should remain as they are.

What I am thinking to try is either Image Designer or Doctor , but if anyone else knows something else that goes nicely -- I'm listening.

I thought about Bio-Engineer but then I would have to get Scout too(to use it effectively), and I am not sure I have enough skill points to spare.

I really like the idea of ID with tailor , but I hear its a pig to grind, as no-one wants their bits played with !!

Doctor , I thought might be useful cos tho I love tailor soo much , I never really make any cash in SWG

Anyway, enough rambling.

Any and all constructive advice gratefully received .

From the merchant FAQ:

I have all these skills, now what happens if I give them up?

If you sacrifice your merchant skills which grant you the ability to place and operate vendors you will be unable to place any new items up for sale until you have the skill to operate the number of vendors you retain. So if you are a Master Merchant and have 12 vendors and you drop your Master skill you must surrender 2 vendors before you will be able to put any items up for sale on ANY of your vendors. The vendor will continue to sell your items to customers during this time, you simply won't be able to put items up for sale until you have either retrained the skills you gave up or removed vendors to get back to the number you have the skill to operate.

So if you want to continue to sell goods, you may not be able to get something skill-point intensive, like doctor, but you can easily get image designer and keep 3 lines of merchant which will be adequate to continue running your business.

Thanks for the always prompt reply NJ.

I should have known that if I wanted the best reply go to the top and ask the professional.

Looks like ID beats Doc

and thanks for clarifying the Merchant issue at the same time

You're really gonna like Tailor/ID. Currently I have the hiring, management and advertising lines of Merchant. This gives me a 2700 item limit (erm or something around there), 9 vendors, global advertising, and the ability to dress my vendors. While I could drop hiring after dressing the dang things and go up efficiency for the structure maintenence reduction, I'm rather fond of switching vendor outfits, so I will be keeping hiring and just dealing with the extra costs.

The tricky part was finding something that matched on an Ithorian so I could project a somewhat uniform image. Ultimately, I found that the trim lined shirt looked pretty similar to an Ithorian shirt (I forget which one) and the dual striped Ithorian pants mirrored the single-stripe striped slacks. I need to get some screenies but it's a very professional looking place.

NJ Would love to see the pix, if you get time.

It's great to see how people dress up their shops.

I could probably afford to lose hiring, ( but our TRIAD guild council has just decided to change our uniform colours from green/white to red/black)

aaaaarrrggghh !!! pulling my hair out.

I dont mind really, but I will be mega busy this weekend, and no reward, as I never charge guild members for uniform, because I do try to promote our uniform look. And its a big guild too.

I like master tailor/merchant/armorsmith 4-0-0-4...that way you can make armor in most of the color...I think there's enough room for all of that

As for guild uniforms: first figure out how much hide you need and then make your guildies hunt for ONE big stack of what you need.

Then... run the uniforms through the factory (that's why you need one big stack). You will be VERY happy you did.

HAHAHA

You make it sound so easy.

Trouble is , I obviously love sewing so much , plus I like to see what looks I can come up with.

Therefore, I usually make loads of different outfits in guild colours and then let members mix-n-match so we get the ultimate unique uniform non-uniform look.

I must be mad

Oh, yes thats right, I am

You could probably at least do some items in the factory. For example: boots and gloves, and maybe the more popular versions of the unform.

I know, I do, just being flippant.

Last time ( and if my guild is reading this what's wrong with green , I have lots left!!! hehe)

I did factory runs of boots , spec-ops dusters, swoop helms and gloves.

Then I just made what people wanted to compliment it all.

Personally , what proved most popular was decorative vests,

plus I cant speak highly enuff about the swoop helms ( specially if worn with a desert combat jacket ! )

We (TRIAD ) had a real solid "Biggles" look going in the run-up to JTL .

It tickled people to see all these Battle of Britain pilots running round Infinity before there were really pilots in the world

Sorry , I'm rambling well off topic now aren't I ??

oops

That was my original template. Master Tailor / Master Image Designer... along with novice dancer and some combat skills.

You are right. In order to keep your vendors, you don't need master merchant.

Image Designer is a fun profession. It's a money maker too... at least for me it was. What I liked about my master tailor / master ID template was that I get to change outfits every day (and change my physical self so I match every outfit). If your choice is to go ID (yes.. it is one hard grind now), I hope you have fun!

I just finished the ID grind (my first time under the new system) and it really wasn't toooo bad. Of course it always goes faster when you have a willing victim.
