I ended up doing dancer on my alt and ID on my tailor. Yes, it's a pain to trade clothing to my dancer, because she's more clotheshorse than my tailor, but it's very nice to be dancing in the cantina and not have anyone see a "master tailor" badge and start pestering me right there.

Image Designer. Armorsmith. Bah! Tailor/Carbineer, that's where the money is.
Anyway, I've always been a dabbler with a crafting class and a combat class. For some odd reason I've never gotten to Master Carbineer, even at the height of the hologrind. Still, I've been working very well with Master Tailor/Master Artisan/Most of Carbineer/FS Skills/Tiny bit of Merchant.
You can be Master (crafter*)/Master (combat class*)/Master Artisan and have 18 points left over for a little dabbling in Merchant/Scout/Medic/FS Skills. If you drop some Artisan skills you can dabble pretty effectively. For the rare(?) Tailor that isn't going to play on another server/pay for an alt/work on Jedi and doesn't want to always be social, that's the path I'd recommend.
(I imagine others have it easier, but being social is extremely draining for me. I love doing in-person Tailoring, but I can only do it for so long and once I've been doing it for a while I just can't keep up with people. Thus why I've kept my Tailoring scaled way back.)
* Here, Crafter means any of the classes based only on either the Engineering or Domestic Arts of Artisan. Combat Class means any of the classes based on just a single line of Marksman or Brawler.

On TC I have master Tailor/ master architect /master merchant and then a master ID/master entertainer/ planned master musician, and 4040 dancer (and #3 is a gunbunny). That maximizes skill points because I don't have to invest in 2 starter professions for either of them. However, I would NEVER separate my ID and tailor again. It's so annoying to be doing a custom order and then say "oh I can match your spots to your outfit, here lemme logon my alt..." and the alt happens to be on lok or some such nonsense, and it's a pain. I'd rather take a skill point hit than separate those two skills that are so obviously in harmony.
