Does anyone have any advice on a good weapon tree to pursue for a tailor in need of protection against angry npcs? I want to use as little skill points on weapons as possible, but I'm not sure which weapon is best at low levels. I'm thinking of getting 4 in marksman/brawler, and then maybe 1 or 2 columns in the higher tree. I'm also pondering getting scout mask scent skills, so I can just sneak past under their noses. any ideas?

I would go with swords. I found that with only a couple of trees in swordsman, I was able to wack down many of the critters near my shop without buffs. Currently swords rock PvE, that's why almost every nightsister hunter has master swordsman somewhere in their template. I'd also suggest TKA, but I think swords are much more effective.

Unless you can get TK novice, the unarmed line in brawler is woefully underpowered. It takes about as long to get to TKN as it does to get from TKN to TKM.

I agree about swords. I was killing things at swords 3 that I couldn't kill at novice pistoleer. Swords are good, and grinding the low levels is quite easy.

Try getting 2H swords 4. With medium armor piercing and a spin attack you can usually take care of yourself with that.

If you can get a couple of trees in swords I'd go 0-4-0-4. This gives you speed and scythe certification. The scythe is faster and more accurate than a powerhammer and has more damage than the lower level swords. If you're going to pick up scout, do it for the hides and don't worry about mask scent. I'd invest more points into swords or hunting rather than mask scent, but that's just my 2 credits. How many skillpoints do you have leftto work with?

I'm still pretty low level, so the world is my oyster at the moment. I'm definitely going for Master Tailor, and on top of that I'm not sure.. maybe interior design, weapon crafting is quite fun, but I could go for armoursmith and craft all wearables.. or I could become an entertainer... so many choices!

I'm going to pick up scout on the side until I need to use the skills for crafting, so that I can build my own little supply of hide and put the creatures who attack me to good use.

oh, and I suppose I have between 29 and 63 skill points reserved for my defences. I'm going to try brawler 0040 and see how I fare. If I still have trouble then I'm gonna try one tree in swordsman, and if that's still not enough then I'll get one more, but the rest is definitely going on crafting.

0040 in brawler sounds good. With buffs and some mediocre armor you can usually outlast anything on the not-so-dangerous planets.

Well, I may be in the minority, but I just use the old "/mount speeder and get out of there" approach. I have no combat, and yeah I get agroed a bit, and placing harvs can be a nuisance when there are a bunch of evil hermits on my 91% concentration... but I find that I can usually get away on my bike before they do me any serious damage.

This morning I couldn't get into my shop to load my vendor into the world because it was completely surrounded by a swooper gang. I ended up paying 15K to a fighter in Coronet to get buffs (which were 15K so he basically got free buffs for the morning), clear a way into the shop and go inside to load up the vendor. Sometimes there is no other way than to hire people to help you out.

I think it makes a huge difference if your shop is in a player city. My shop is so I don't have to worry about miscreants on my doorstep. I get the occasional mutant womp rat next to my factory, but I'm pretty quick with the factory commands, so I can usually just let it whack me a few times until I'm done with my factory business and ride off.

My tailor also has no combat. I've found that there's just enough time before I'm incappedto check harvesters, jump on my bike, and run away. This also works with placing harvesters. Carry some pixieor vercuptito get through tough spots and save you from dying. I think if you're incapped right next to a harvester you can still manage it while you wait. All my factories are placed near my shop and I always lose agrro when I run inside. Those are my noncombat tips.
