1) What level tailor are you? Master
2) How long have you been a tailor? Since early July.
3) What made you decide to be a tailor? The variety of items that could be made, and the colors.
4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? Hard to say, rather burned out on it right now.
5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? Have never quit, although fantasize about closing up shop and retiring to a cantina on the beach.
6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer?
7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? Used to do both in person and via email. Don't do many custom orders these days.
8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? Do my own.
9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? Not in a player city, large generic on Naboo near Keren.
10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? Own my own.
11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes? 3 clothes vendors. One for unisex, one for ladies, and one for BE.
12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? At the highest point, 500 total. Now maybe 300.
13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? Don't specialize.
14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? With my name, and with named colors.
15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? I sell BE clothes, but I am my own supplier.
16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? Vendor sales only, hate custom orders. Everything sells usually, except one lonely +6 cover item which I think will never sell.
17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level? Not sure, I'd say middle to high.
18) Do you use the bazaar ever? Not any more.
19) How do you advertise your shop? On the world map, but not sure that's worth anything these days.
20) How do you perceive your workload? Right now pretty light because I play my other two chars most of the time. When I was a full-time tailor I often felt over-worked and stressed out.
21) Is there too little competition? Too much? Hard to say. Most shops I visit have little stock at all. Some have much more than I do. I think the market is just plain saturated at this point. I sell more BE clothes than regular, and more food than both put together.
22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? Not limited.
23) What is your returns policy? I'll buy back my own stuff within a reasonable period of time. Custom orders are always 100% satisfaction guaranteed.
24) What is your discount policy?I discount custom orders.
25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? Haven't done many, maybe 20% off at most.
26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? Hasn't really come up.
27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? Not really. If I'm on my tailor, I'm usually available to do tailor work.
28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? I would.
29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? No.
30) When do you put your tailor tag up? Alternate between chef & tailor. Don't go into cities much so it's not an issue.
31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? Chef for something more challenging. Will be getting Master Artisan for better artisan level foods. Merchant cause you have to.
32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)? See sig. Same server.
33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? My tailor isn't my main any more. I'd consider my CH my main, with the BE 2nd.
34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). A few hours a week now.
35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? No.
36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial? No and No. I think they would be.

I haven't had to buy resources in ages because I went through a MAJOR mining phase (100K-200K per resource) and horded it all.

1) What level tailor are you? Master Tailor
2) How long have you been a tailor? I started working towards Tailor on day one (yes that day one that it was almost impossible to get in on)
3) What made you decide to be a tailor? Tried it out for a time in beta and loved it.
4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? The creativity involved.
5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? I sometimes think of quitting because of the lack of dev attention paid to our profession, but even if I retired from selling I'd keep my skills.
6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which
do you prefer? I prefer vendor sales at the moment, but I do both and wouldn't be surprised if I eventually went back to mostly custom orders.
7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot? Depends on the customer's needs. I only do email and custom order backpacks if I'm sure the person knows exactly what they want (or if they're not super picky).
8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? I buy all my metal, and drop a heavy harvester to pull up chemicals as I need them, but I don't keep it placed constantly. I get hides from my PA in exchange for clothing.
9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house? My vendor is in a small player city on Rori. It's currently in a merchant tent though I'm thinking about switching back to a Medium Naboo house.
10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? I'm a Master Merchant, so I handle my own vendors.
11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes? I have 5 vendors, but only 3 are clothing related. I currently have one for most of my clothes, one for BE goods, and one for sale items, but will probably change that when I move my shop.
12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? I normally try to stock at least 1,000 items, that number is significantly down because I've mostly stopped stocking while waiting for the vendor nerf.
13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors? I try and stock a little of everything, while I always try to keep the most popular colors in stock I'll rotate other shades in and out.
14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? I keep the original item name at the start of the item to help those who know exactly what they're looking for, after the item name I put the color in parentheses and my name. For example: "Cloak (white) by Kara"
15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers?
I do make BE clothing, and usually shop at the vendors of several BEs.
16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out? I sell most of my BE clothing through vendor sales. My biggest sellers are probably anything in a Lined Workshirt (I stick to mostly neutral colors though the blue ones sell pretty well also).
17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level?
My prices are mid-level on some items and high on others. Most of my prices that are more mid-level are on low level garments.
18) Do you use the bazaar ever? I use the bazaar occasionally if I am in a city and notice that it's got few clothes listed. But it's usually only if it's convenient, I don't go out of my way to go list things.
19) How do you advertise your shop? My main vendor is map-registered but I mostly seem to get word-of-mouth customers.
20) How do you perceive your workload? My workload is average to light I'd guess. I raised my prices until I reached a point where I was happy with how often I needed to restock.
21) Is there too little competition? Too much? There is very little competition on my planet, but I wouldn't say it was too little.
22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how? I haven't, but I don't go out of my way to find new customers. I have a large amount of repeat customers.
23) What is your returns policy? I only take returns on items that are in perfect condition, and even then only in exceptional circumstances, such as if someone accidentally bought something they couldn't equip. If a customer isn't sure what color they'd like, I expect them to schedule a custom fitting, not buy 5 items, try them on, and return 4 of them.
24) What is your discount policy? I craft for free for members of my very small guild, in exchange for hides, cool loot, or items they've crafted. Rebels get a discount but I rarely inform them because they always try and tip extra then. Other than that I discount for brand new characters and low level entertainers. Discounts only apply to custom orders.
25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing? I do large custom orders, but don't discount them as they take much more time, resources, and effort than smaller orders.
26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing? I'd only consider doing a rush job if they were willing to include a sizeable extra fee.
27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? I'm off duty a lot, but it's not on a schedule.
28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates? Nope. Not unless I'm hanging out with the person already and it's a very quick order.
29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports? Not usually, not unless it's something very quick and easy and there's lots of time left.
30) When do you put your tailor tag up? Never. I have enough customers who already know who I am.
31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo? Master Merchant and Politician. I chose Master Merchant so I could run other stores. I am giving up Politician as soon as I can find someone else to mayor our town though.
32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)?
I have an alt on the same server who is working on smuggler/pistoleer.
33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main? Tailor is my main profession.
34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt). I probably spend between 1/3 and 1/2 of my game time tailoring, but it's sometimes more or less depending on what else is going on.
35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character? Yes, I'm rebel, though I never fight anymore..
36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial?
I am in a city and a guild, both have been extremely beneficial.

Tailoring Poll
I thought it would be interesting to see the business practices and thoughts of the posters on this forum:
1) What level tailor are you Master
2) How long have you been a tailor? since beta...
3) What made you decide to be a tailor? the creativity
4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor? the creativity
5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why? I'll quit the game before I quit Tailoring and I'm seriously comtemplating quitting the game...
6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both?both Which do you prefer?
7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot?
8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining? I mine my own but do buy resources if I run across a good deal...
9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? I have several located on Naboo and Dantooine... Player city? yes Mall? Style of houses? 1 vendor -small generic style 2 in Theed,
1 vendor -merchant tent in my player city on Dantooine,
and 2 or 3 vendors in my medium Tat house on Dantooine in my city...
10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant? I'm Master Merchant
11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes?
4 or 5 depending on my mood:
1 general all purpose in Theed,
1 Budgetwear in the Merchant tent on Dantooine,
1 accessories in my house (shop) on Dantooine, 1 general all purpose in my house (shop) on Dantooine,
and just took down the vendor that I keep at less than 100 items that are all matching outfits... if my ambition comes back I'll put it back up and re-stock it...
12) How many items do you keep on your vendor? all together well over 1000.. haven't really added them all up lately...
13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? nope Certain colors? nope
14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color? bleh, never put my name on anything, I love to shop myself and really hate the confusion of seeing someone's name plastered all over the item names.. it makes it a lot harder to shop IMNSHO... I do put the color... like Cloak Black, Small Bustier Vivid Red, etc...
15) Do you do bioengineered clothing?nope, not interested in it... Do you deal with multiple bioengineers? one of my guildmates is Master BE so when and if I ever get the urge I'll have a BE of my very own to partner with..*smile* Chloe if you read this he's not taking orders from outside the PA, that's why I didn't give you his name the other night when you asked... I do plan to give him your name as a potential Tailor to contact when he decides to start getting in the BE tissues biz on a full time basis...
16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? I make them free for PA membersand that's onlywhen they slip me a micky of passive tranquilizers, tie me down with constrictor cloths and beat me with toughened fibers... Custom orders? none Vendor sales?none Which “stock items” sell out?
17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level? mid level I'd say.. I've seen higher, I've seen lower.. my customers seem happy with my pricing structure...
18) Do you use the bazaar ever? I love the bazaar...It's a game in itself to me..
19) How do you advertise your shop? I don't advertise... I am, however, listed on the planetary map and I make sure to list only one vendor at time so the vendor name isn't a big fat ugly unreadable blob when someone has the overhead map turned on...

I give away a lotof Emerald Pendants and Uniform Boots and Gloves, sometimes a shirt depending on what they purchased... again, this is whim, not a set policy... if they're a pain in the azzI don't go out of my way to give them anything...
25) Do you take large custom orders? sure, if they can catch me... If so, what is the pricing? I'd discount it
26) Do you take rush jobs? I don't like to be rushed but it would depend on how well I knew the person... If so, what is the pricing? depends on who it is...
27) Are you “off duty” at specified times? yes

Master Tailor
Master - 7 weeks, Novice - about 11 weeks
Started out as a Dancer and after seeing the selection of clothes I really wanted to be able to make them too. That and I really lean towards crafting because of all the other games that force you to get combat xp to advance at all.
Well it's a fairly good income, though if I wanted income I'd of never started as a dancer. I enjoy the interaction with people, being known as a good tailor and fair with my prices.
Never quit yet though there are times I'd like to get away from the hastle. Log on to find I have to restock 150 items or get 5 tells at once from people wanting my attention.
I do both custom orders and vendor sales, most time I prefer custom orders though I like the peace just having vendor sales at times too.
Most of the time I reply asking for specifics first, make up the order, place them in a named backpack on my custom order vendor and last of all mail the client a pre-written email with waypoint, location description, vendor position, what to look for on the vendor and the overall price. I sometimes do on the spot orders and deliveries too, mostly just to get myself out and about.
I harvest my own resources using 3 BER 10 Minerals, 3 BER 10 Chemicals (gotta upgrade those!) and a BER 14 Fusion for power. I don't often run all at once, depends on needs and available resources and power. Currently building up a surplus so I don't have to worry about supplies for some time. Currently in my surplus storage I've got 1,400,000 units of resources, in nice 100k full packs.
I have two stores. I mainly operate out of a jointly run PA Hall mall, used to be just outside Anchorhead, Tatooine but we moved to 1200m west of Mos Entha to escape the crippling lag. We wanted to make it a player city but Tatooine is of course already full. My other store is right next to the shuttleport in Mos Melyn, an imperial player city. It's a large house that I currently use as a quick base for making items and selling complete outfits and costumes that are on display.
Due to the number of items I don't see how using a merchant could work out. I have some merchant skills so I can have three vendors for the moment, soon 4 with a fiddle around with my skill points.
Three vendors, one for custom orders, one for outfits and costumes (Sold in packs, outfits on display) and the last an all items vendor holding everything.
I'm not certain but I think it's around 300-350 ish.
Mostly I just make black and white, well it sells, but I do make other colours of a few items that really take colour well. I try to make a variety of dress colours and not repeat them all the time. Though some I like enough and sell enough to keep making. (Peach/orange ball gown being one of my good ones)
I always leave the default name at the start to aid people searching my vendor's list, next comes colour(s) ordered in quantity then BE stats if used and finally my short "VR" tag at the end. I don't force it though, if someone wants it without or a particular name they only have to ask, I don't charge extra for it.
I do but only for custom orders, I don't sell a lot but the income keeps my BE friend happy. He's part of the mall so he supplies me what I request and I pay him off later with large sums of money that he's always surprised to get. We're good friends who knew each other from before SWG.
Custom orders only unless I get a piece back for some reason, though thats not happened yet.
My prices are pretty low, for the most part 2/3 of most of the tailors I've seen and from some of the FAQ catalogue sites 1/2 the prices there.
Not anymore, too much hastle going back and forth with items.
I have planetry listings for my two shops and recently put info in my signature on the forums, not that I post a great deal. Most of my business comes from people coming to the mall for one thing and buying some clothes while they're there. After that it comes from word of mouth which I get lots of good recommendations from past customers.
Varys a fair bit. I don't get enough custom orders to take much time, vendor restocking takes up most of my time with costume restocking taking up a lot too. Most people don't realise how long it takes to restock 10 full costumes.
Competition seems to come and go, outside Mos Entha there's little to no competition same with Mos Melyn (After a Master Tailor there almost had a heart attack over my prices and decided to "follow the holo")
Not really though business is a little less after moving from Anchorhead, I get more people coming for specifics or wanting a range of items to try and make full outfits with so I often gets lots of sales to just a few customers.
Vendor offers, has to be in good quality and mine, same price as sold if not decayed. I don't get many returns though.
I don't usually offer discounts though I sometimes round off custom order prices for people.
Same price as my normal price though I'm open to a little haggling.
Again it's my normal price unless it's a REAL rush! Then I'll probably increase the price depending on how much hastle it will cause me.
I don't have specified on and off times, I just on occasion go dance a bit or explore.
28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates?
N/A
Yes though they're often very rushed, trying to trade quickly before the shuttle leaves.
I keep it up most of the time, it's not caused me enough hastle to turn off yet.
I'm a Master Dancer, Master Tailor and use my remaining skill points for merchant skills. I enjoy the dancing and helping people out with mind buffs. I went for tailoring after dancer so I could at least have reason to get out of the cantinas. Now dancing's a reason to get out of my crafting room!
No though I'd like to try my hand at a combat profession. I'm too afraid of dying though and starting a new character from scratch isn't appealing.
Yes my tailor is my main and currently only character.
It works out to about 60/40 tailoring/other stuff.
No though I am an imperial citizen who wants to server the empire in the best way I can. With no decay/insureance (whatever the new stuff is) I might start being more active, though with no combat skills at all, it's a challenge taking on just the Kreetles let alone other players.
In a guild along with my mall friends, just a small traders guild, friendly and sometimes chatty. I live in the player city of Mos Melyn which is very well planned, (not excessively though) and it's a great place where everyone's friendly. When our mayor gets enough xp my large house/shop there should overlook 3 large gardens, perfect balcony view.

Tailoring Poll
I thought it would be interesting to see the business practices and thoughts of the posters on this forum:
1) What level tailor are you
master
2) How long have you been a tailor?
since early days, august probably I think...
3) What made you decide to be a tailor?
I liked the idea of designing whole "looks"
4) What keeps you interested in being a tailor?
I still love putting together any outfit I like at any time
5) Have you ever quit tailoring for a while, or are you thinking about quitting? If so, why?
I've been kinda burnt out for a while, I stopped doing cutom orders at all, all I do now is keep my vendor stocked. I've been thinking about quiting for a while now for a number of reasons. #1 is the lack of new tailor content, you can only make the same shirt/pants/boots/gloves/jacket outfits so many times before it gets old. #2 I think may be the low profits. I know some of you make good money but it's still nowhere near what an armorsmith or weaponsmith can pull in. I want enough money to be able to buy what I want when I want any time. (skill tapes, pvp armor, ect)
6) Do you do custom orders, vendor sales or both? Which do you prefer?
I used to not mind custom oerders... but now I find they just take up too much time. Too many people have no clue and need to be lead through the whole process, which slows everything down a lot. I much prefer my vendor now, I keep it well stocked and people can come and find what they want.
7) How do you normally handle custom orders? E-mail? Distribution by custom order backpack? In person, on the spot?
When I was still doing custom orders I ususally did them face to face. E-mail worked if the person knows what they want generally, but face to face is always better.
8) Do you buy resources or do your own mining?
Mine my own. (usually, sometimes if I'm short I'll buy the 16k of fiberplast for a synth run)
9) If you have a vendor, where is it located? Player city? Mall? Style of house?
My vendors are located in my shop all on it's lonesome west of kor vella. No city's, few other players, just the way I like it. It's the medium generic style (I think), with 1 big room, then a little round room, then another big room, then another little round room.
10) Do you own your own vendor or contract with a merchant?
master merchant, own my own vendors.
11) How many vendors do you have? How do you organize the clothes?
2 clothing vendors, Normal clothing and a Wookiee vendor. I used to have a seperate BE vendor when I still did BE clothing.
12) How many items do you keep on your vendor?
my main vendor has 850 items or so... might be up to 900+ now.
13) Do you specialize in certain types of clothes? Certain colors?
nope, I stock EVERYTHING
14) How do you name your clothes? With your name on it? Color?
I leave the clothing article name untouched, and then on the end put the colors in brackets, and then on the veyr end I include my makers mark "sv"
15) Do you do bioengineered clothing? Do you deal with multiple bioengineers?
I used to, but I lost my BE tissue dealer and it became more hassle then it was worth trying to find a new supply.
16) How do you deal with bioengineered clothing? Custom orders? Vendor sales? Which “stock items” sell out?
I no longer deal in BE clothing. But when I did I had a vendor with BE clothing,I stocked 1 basic shirt type in black in the different types of enhancements (melee/stun, maskscent, intim/warcry, bleed), 1 basic pants in black, 1 basic jacket in black, and 1 basic bandoleer. I did doc BE and entertainer BE by custom order.
17) Compared to others on your server, are your prices low, high, or mid-level?
Mid to high.
18) Do you use the bazaar ever?
off and on. I can't stand the bazaar because of the lag and bugs, but if I'm passing through I'll stock it with 25 items each with a blurb describing my shop.
19) How do you advertise your shop?
occasionally bazaar items with info blurbs. And I have my vendors registered.
20) How do you perceive your workload?
mid to high. too much work I'm finding.
21) Is there too little competition? Too much?
I don't really pay attention to other tailors, so I'd guess the competition is just fine.
22) Have you limited your customer base? If so, how?
I limited my customer base by putting my shop away from most people. West of kor vella isn't really that far from civilization, but it sure does cut down on traffic to not by near coronet.
23) What is your returns policy?
if someone e-mails or messages me explaining they bought the wrong item, or it doesn't look good now that they've tried it on, then I'm happy to take returns. If someone just offeres some clothing to one of my vendors I ignore it.
24) What is your discount policy?
I don't generally grant discounts.
25) Do you take large custom orders? If so, what is the pricing?
I've never been aproached for a large custom order, but if I ever was I think I'd offer a 15-20% discount.
26) Do you take rush jobs? If so, what is the pricing?
I wouldn't take a rush job, to be honest I don't keep enough components stocked most of the time to fullfill large custom orders in a rush.
27) Are you “off duty” at specified times?
I'm always off duty now. no longer accept custom orders.
28) If you’re not taking orders from the general public, do you make exceptions for friends/guildmates?
oh definately. I still love playing dress up with all the pretty clothing, and I like helping out friends.
29) Do you take orders “on the fly” at starports?
if I have the time sure.
30) When do you put your tailor tag up?
never
31) What other professions do you have with your tailor character? Why did you pick this particular combo?
Master Artisan... kinda useless to be honest, keeping it for nostalgia so far. Master Merchant, I like the benifits you get from merchant, tho they certainly arn't worth the skill points, and I'll be dropping bits of merchant for armorsmith. Expert Armorsmith 4,2,0,4 I want to make oodles of cash! oodles! grinding it slowly but steadily.
32) Do you have an alt? Same server or different server? Which profession(s)?
yep, same server. My combat character, right now he's CM/Pistoleer. dropping pistoleer soon I think and gonna go carbineer.
33) What do you consider to be your primary profession (including alts)? Is your tailor your main?
yes my tailor is my main.
34) How much of your time is spent tailoring or otherwise dealing with tailoring business (as opposed to doing other activities with your tailor character or an alt).
a lot of my time is taken up with tailoring. But I'd say most of my time these days is split between armorsmith and my combat alt.
35) Do you take part in the GCW with your tailor character?
good lord no... tho I have toyed with the idea of putting a minefield up in front of my shop
36) Do you live in a player city? Are you in a guild? Are these beneficial?
nope, and nope. I'm not in a city mostly cause I don't want a lot traffic at my shop, plus I couldn't be bothered to move my 800+ item vendor. And I've avoided joining a guild cause mostly I've found in mmporgs that crafters get a lot less from a guild then they contribute.
