What has happened to the good tailors out there? I am refering to specifically those on the Tempest server. I have searched for days now, trying to find someone who is actually online or has a vendor with more then padded wookie gloves or a 16 pairs of casual pants. I try going to the vendors that are listed on the planetary maps but unfortunately, they are all identically stocked. Sorry, I don't need an exotic leotard or a grand ball gown for 20K. Thanks anyways.

I was forwarded an ingame email that had a waypoint to a tailor on Naboo and noticed she had a website up. Great! The site was well built, had every color palette available but in order to get anything, you had to place an order with her via ingame email (tells were NOT welcomed, said so on her site) that included each items name and the color(s) using the color coded charts she had up. Not very inviting if you're new to the game andfor those of usthatareseasoned. Consultations? 2K up front and then an additional 500 credits per item crafted. What the...?The sad part is, she's not the only one. If you can find any tailors about, they're all about the same prices, same additude.

My biggest complaint is not so much the cost of clothing, I understand the flaws with the system currently (outrageous prices for resources and the lack consequences for damaged clothing) but the additudes with tailors out there! You are not some goddess to be put upon a pedistal where your worshippers may grovel for hours at your feet(if you were a master heavy swordsman, then yes I could see it) but you are a tailor, someone who helps people look good!

And for those of you who want to scream at me that I don't know the first thing about being a tailor and that I should quit complaining....Well, I do. My main character is a Master Tailor and I have 3 bubbles left to Master Bio Engineer. My whole purpose as a tailor is to help people find their perfect look! If I have to make 15 Transport flightsuits until I get the perfect shade, then so be it! I have a dedicatedclientelle and make more money then I'll ever need. My prices are 2-3 times the cost of a resource so yes, they fluctuate but I don't sell anything for more then 8k, ever!

So in closing I didn't start this to get bashed upon by the self righteous tailor and I didn't start it to bash upon any tailor, but so that you might stop and think about your business practices and what people reallythink about it.

First,,I am not on Tempest server,,,but,,

What is happening to me is that I do so well in bio-clothes and "basic" stocked items that I only do custom orders for players that I either know, or happen to catch me when I am not too busy, And I dont consider myself a "Goddess", but for me there are other things to do in game other than stand at a craft station and make item after item.

Secondarily, making custom orders and finding the perfect combo of items and colors is usually quite time consuming and although I enjoy doing custom sessions, it can leave little time for other things I need or want to do ingame during that play session.

I am quite sure that you just havent found the tailor most suited to your philosophy on your server, I am sure if you continue to search, and ask around, you will eventually find the tailor you are looking for,

Third, I stock the items that sell regularly ,,and limit my items to 100 per vendor, By doing that I dont have to guess which items will sell best or not, I stock items that are proven to sell in basic colors, usually black. If someone wants a different color, and knows the exact color, I make it and just leave it for purchase on my vendor and that system works really well for me.

PS; Some of your philosophies and pricing strategies are not always the same as other tailors,,mine for one is quite different than yours. I never sell for the 2-3 credit pricing structure, I always price higher,,and two, my main purpose is fun, not pleasing the customer, although that usually is a by -product

And last, I would guess that the person who only does email orders has been a tailor since launch , has millions of credits and likely also has a second account for the combat professions and is now using the tailor character as a credit maker, and only by doing it by email can that be done in a reasonable time so that there is time to play the other character,

I feel your pain but at the same time, I know how annoying the tells can be. I wish there was a way to toggle tells on or off, so crafters in general could take time off without getting constant tells.

Last night I was ata party in the game, and this guy wanted his clothes right away. I told him I could get to it him first thing in the morning but apparently it was not good enough. My poor tailor cannot even get a night off! I am usually pretty good about answering tells and turn around time (unless I am out of BE tissues). But once in a while I like to do other things.

I also try to keep my vendors stocked but sometimes I am so busy with custom orders I haven't the time to make clothes and stock my vendors. There are only so many hours in a day... Then if I get a big order of 20 elf suits, my factories are busy and it uses up alot of resources so my vendors go unstocked. I even try and sneak into the game at odd hours to stock them but sometimes I still cannot get to it. LOL

Usually after responding to tells, I ask them to please email me the order because I get so many tells it would be impossible to keep it all straight (plus players have the strangest names). So maybe some tailors are trying to be more organized and reduce the random tells they get. I for one, do NOT have an attitude problem, I am just a busy tailor.

I suggest trying to email a tailor and set up a consultation, but please do not pay a consultation fee as I feel thats rediculous. I don't charge for consultations at all and I do agree thats rather insensitive and suggests an attitude problem right off the bat, so just don't go to a tailor who does that. I do know of some tailors who have that attitude but we're not all like that. You may have to search harder to find a tailor, ask friends and associates who they go to for clothes, and most of the time you'll find a tailor that way.

Hope that helps.

Akaara has the straight of it... tells are annoying because they are hard to keep track of, especially when you have 3 people doing it at once, while talking to another customer directly. When I get a /tell for an order, I always ask the customer to email me instead. I am most likely unable to fulfill their order immediately, and if they send a mail, I have their name and order recorded without having to write it down. It saves a ton of hassle.

If they don't know what they want exactly, I'll ask them to meet me somewhere... I love doing sessions with customers, trying to make an outfit that looks good on them. I never worry about leftovers; they go on the vendor and I usually have no trouble selling them.

I can sympathise with people experiencing arrogant master craftsmen; I've met them as well But try to understand that these people are very busy sometimes. Conversely, if you are a busy master craftsman, be considerate to your customers. I don't fob people off, charge a consultation fee, nor do I charge ridiculous prices to lighten the workload. Instead, if a customer wants something and I am too busy, I just tell him politely to email his order so that I can complete it at a later date.

I agree with everyone above that tells can be annoying and impossible to keep track of. If your main character isa Master Tailor and has been wearing a Tailor tag and promoting your clothes at all, it's very hard for me to believe that you've never been in a situation where two (or more) potential customers are demanding quick responses in tells while you're busy with a face-to-face customer! I never wear my tailor title and still get that kind of thing more than I'd like.

The skill-based nature of the game also means that every single tailor you know has some other professions that they enjoy. Would you really appreciate being flooded with clothingtells every time you're out hunting your own hides, dancing at the cantina, or defending a city from a PVP raid? I've been working towards tailor since day one in this game, and sometimes it gets tiring and I need a break. Sometimes I'm working on leveling other skills, and sometimes I just needa break from my customers. It doesn't mean I don't like or respect them, but this is a game. Taking time off from them keeps it fun and not work.

Many of us whoaccept special orders through email aren't the snobs you seem to think we are. It's just that our priorities are different. My in-game priority is doing what's fun to me at the time. Whether that's working with a customer in my shop, or travelling the galaxy, that's what I'm focused on. I'm sorry if you think that makes some tailors bad at customer service, that they won't drop everything else to hop to what you want. But we get a lot of grief from customers at times, so any of our little rules that we set are meant to help us keep enjoying tailoring. So I take special requests through mail, which I can keep, refer back to later, and answer when I have time, instead of demanding tells that I have to reply to quickly and try and remember later.

It's actually kind of funny, because if you were in a session with a tailor and they were splitting their attention between you and two or three others through tells you'd probably be just as annoyed. They're supposed to be working with you and keep spacing out for minutes at a time to respond to others, wouldn't that be frustrating? Sure it is! And frankly, to any tailor, the customer that's right in front of them currently looking at clothes ismore important at the momentthan some person who may or may not wind up coming out to their shop. So in order to focus on what we're doing we have to keep distractions to a minimum.

Yes, I think I may turn off a few customers with my attitude. But honestly, the kind of person who can't understand that I don't spend my every second of in-game time catering to everyone else's wishes is not the kind of person that I want as a customer.

When I moved to Talus, my custom orders sort of dried up. I started stocking a whole lot of items on my vendor. And you know what, I discovered that people like that *better*. People I've never met, and who have never bought from me, send me tells that my shop is sooooo cool. I think while we know every item inside and out, and know what will look good and what will not, they don't know. They want to browse. And usually, if the selection is good enough, they will find exactly what they want. Sure I'll get custom orders, but usually after someone looks through the vendor first. And they know exactly what they want because they've seen the items on the vendor. It's like a huge frame of reference.

This also cuts down on - "but I wanted this in one shade lighter". They can see the shade in the window. They want it, they buy it, very simple.

It cuts down on my time. I can make 50 vendor items in the time it takes me to make a 1-outfit custom order.

People want to shop when I'm not there. People dont' want to feel bad about spending an hour of my time and not ending up with any clothes. People can stand in front of my vendor for a good hour and be indecisive. It's a nice system.

I have about 10 stock colors that I use regularly, and I try to name them consistently. For example "purple" is the deep purple color that you get at master tailor. "Purple-3" is 3 boxes to the left of "purple". Looks weird but I will know instantly how to match it. I keep about 800 items in stock, hopefully.

I don't really understand the phenomenon, but they want the browsing and the vendor. I can't complain because it frees me up to do other things.

I am that way too, as an ex tailor and as a customer. There is nothing I enjoy more than vendors with a very good selection. I wish there was one on my server.

if I don't wanna be 'bothered' by people sending tells I go to my character screen and turn on another title or no title at all.

of course if they already knowyou are a tailor it doesn't help much.

it is partly the crafting professions own fault... there areway too many empty vendors out there. i know it's hard to keep up sometimes but don't stand in starport shouting your vendorwaypoint if the frickin thing is empty or I WILL SEND YOU TELLS AKING FOR STUFF LOL

personally tho I think you should almost have an approved list before someone can send you a tell, like a secure trade - you both have to say 'ok', once you are on someone's approved list /tells can be sent. otherwise email only by default.

When I'm not going to be able to restock (like now because I'm in exams), I do the following:

  1. delist vendor from global map. Nothing I hate more than trekking out to a vendor listed on the global only to find it's destocked. You bet I'll never go *there* again!

  2. change the sign on my house explaining i.e. **no restock until 15th** (ad barking doesn't really work reliably for important messages)

  3. set my afk to "in exam hell, tailoring on hold until the 15th"

  4. respond to e-mail orders with: I'm unavailable until the 15th, please contact me then, and I won't be offended if you get someone else to do it (give them a name of another tailor, except if customer is royal pain in the butt, and then passing the buck is rude)

  5. make no exceptions. Otherwise all hell breaks loose.

This usually cuts down on the tells because people at my shop know not to bother me, and then if they send me tells they definitely know not to bother me. Also, people know why your vendor is unstocked, and will not write off your shop permanently.

Personally, I ask anyone with an order of more than one garment to send me an email detailing it. This isn't because /tells are annoying, but because it's impossible to keep track of the order otherwise. I don't want to be scrolling back through miles of text while making a complete outfit -- and much worse, I don't want to omit making a portion of it because I've lost some of the requests.

Trust me, sending your order by email is in your best interests, as well as the tailor's! *grins*

That said, I would never pay a consultation fee to anyone but an image designer (since that's the only fee they generally seem to charge), and I would advise you not to, too. There's absolutely no reason for it, when you're already paying for the finished product.

*laughs* Here's an idea... put your money where your mouth is.

YOU go out and master tailoring and spend ONE month stocking vendors, doing harvester runs, catering to every single person who messages you while keeping up with all the orders in your mail box. While you do this try to hold onto your own fun in the game and do things you enjoy in peace..

THEN come here and shoot your mouth off about tailors. Until then I'd advise you to carefully consider the following saying.. as used as it may be it still suits you perfectly.. it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people SUSPECT you're an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt.

You have no idea what it's like for us tailors. I don't get a minutes peace from the moment I log on until I log off.. people want your service and they want it NOW. You are messaged constantly, asked questions constantly.. If you give every person who messages you the time THEY want you to give them, you'd never have time to actually CRAFT.

I take all my custom orders by email because it's just simply easier to keep track of that way. Sure if someone comes in my shop and needs something I'll make it but believe me it's not easy to stand there helping this person while you have emails popping up left and right, people sending you tells asking how much is this, how much is that.. can you make this, can you make that.. how long till my order is ready.. is it done yet.. can you train me.. Hello, are you there... Do you have this on your vendor.. where is your shop.. did you get my order.. etc etc etc etc.

Tailor our shoes then walk a mile in them.. until then shut your mouth.

Well, to be fair to the original poster, they did say that their main characterwas a Master Tailor, but I also assumed that they got up by grinding and weren't that experienced in actually playing the profession. We have a lot of relatively new tailors show up in herefrom time to time and talk about the things we're doing wrong. But usually after they get a bit of experience in actually dealing with customersthey understand why we do what we do.
